im actually about to order a copy of the book. So i do want to buy it haha oh, and not that my opinion matters, but jersey and whoever else spoke up should have done so in a PM. Its just asking for other people to get involved that shouldn't and you never know but your comment about someone reporting him could have convinced someone to do so. Plus the fact that you and others still persisted to tell him what he might already have know would definitely be enough to fully convince someone to report him. As you said "you never know who's watching" but you need to fully examine your words when you say them. This is not meant in offense but everyone should watch what they say and how they say it. And as Xaqtly has stated, if anyone wants to comment and help some more, they should do so by PMing him.

THANK YOU Jarcieri. It absolutely should have been done via PM. Getting into that whole thing in my thread was tactless and tasteless. Anyway I've removed any reference to the book so the only thing left to be done is for JerseyCaptain to apologize for publicly insulting me.
Needless to say this has put a big damper on my enthusiasm for writing anything for Balto Source. I'm taking a break from my Steele story, and I may or may not get back to it any time soon.
If anybody would like to discuss the details about the book, Heart of Steele or anything else, please PM me, I'll be happy to talk about it.

Eh...well, you deserved a break anyway. I also, agree, that entire discussion had nothing to do with your fanfiction and should have been discussed via PM, if at all.

What exactly did you not understand about "do it via PM"? Is there something about that concept that's difficult to understand or something? Why do you insist on posting your comments in my thread despite being asked multiple times not to?
Togo didn't insult me. YOU did. I'm not surprised that you haven't been able to figure out why yet. Speaking of double standards, How's that youtube video of yours doing, you know, the one that violates both Universal and Tom Petty's copyrights, not to mention YouTube's terms of service? How's that for a double standard?
Seriously, the hypocrisy is so thick you can feel it. You're in no position to preach about breaching copyrights. Furthermore, this is not the place to discuss this, and you know that. But apparently you won't respond to me unless it's in a public place, so you continue to crap up my thread with your hypocritical BS rather than doing it via PM. That's very noble of you.
You can point out violations of copyrights via PM all you want, and you will have done your sacred duty. There's absolutely no reason at all to continue to do it in this thread. You still owe me an apology, and I'll be perfectly happy to receive it via PM if you don't feel like doing it in public. I'll even explain why you need to apologize because apparently you haven't been able to figure it out yet.
As I said, if there are any other issues regarding this, feel free to PM me. Do NOT post it in this thread. Hopefully those instructions are clear enough for even you to understand, JerseyCaptain.

Seriously? What's the problem, do you not know where the PM button is? If you need help finding it, I'm sure somebody can help you. As to who started the argument if you go back a page it should be pretty obvious who started it. And no, there's no rule other than common courtesy as far as sticking to PMs. Common courtesy is something you seem to have in short supply.
Theft is theft, which is why you're a hypocrite. Do you not get that part? You're in violation of a lot more copyrights than I am. The membership rules at Blurb are not the law, and neither are the rules here at BS. Despite that, I did what Togo asked as soon as he said it. You go ahead and keep believing you are free of any wrongdoing if it helps you sleep better at night.
Nothing I did justifies how you reacted to it in this thread. Togo's response was reasonable. Yours was not. If you still can't see why, I'm still willing to point it out to you step by step in PM so you can see where you messed up. Now swallow your massive pride and take this to PM.

For somebody who claims to have read Blurb's policies, you sure are making yourself look like an idiot. It costs money to bind and print a book. When you buy one from blurb, that is what you're paying for. That money does not go to me. It goes to Blurb, and whoever they use for printing and binding.
I have already told you this at least 4 times now, but here it is again. Make sure you get it this time.
I do not make any money from Blurb at all. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch.
I don't charge for the book. Blurb does. You see the difference there? Seriously, if you were as smart as you think you are, you would have figured this out already. Furthermore, why would I charge for a book like this? Are you out of your mind? What possible reason could I have for doing that?
Your baseless and factless accusations amount to nothing more than libel because apparently you can't be bothered to look up the truth for yourself. It's just easier to accuse me of doing something I'm not doing, right? And by the way, thanks for proving that everything you have a problem with here boils down to a misconception on your part. That's fantastic, thanks for that.
To your two points below which you obviously didn't put any thought into:
a. I don't charge anyone for my fan works either.
b. Your works violate MORE copyrights than mine do. Yours violate Balto AND Lady and the Tramp copyrights at the same time, and your video violates Balto and Tom Petty copyrights as well as YouTube's terms of service.
You are FAR more in violation than I am. Wake up and smell reality.
The fact that you are STILL accusing me of making money off those books indicates that intelligence was not a factor in your arguments. You're accusing me of doing something I'm not doing, how exactly do you expect me to react? Are you aware that this is libel? Furthermore, all this could have been discussed in PMs, and yet like the child you are, you had to do it out in the open. Why? Who knows, you apparently have some need to attract public attention to yourself.
In any case I've had enough of your libelous accusations. If you want to accuse me of something like this you had better be prepared to prove it. In fact I challenge you to prove it. Do it, do it right now. Expose me for the fraud I am, I dare you. If you are unable to prove what you claim about me, I will expect that apology from you immediately.

Okay, okay . . . can we please return to the point of this thread?
First of all, I agree that this conversation is better suited for PMs, not in a public forum. Also, if it were to belong in a thread, it does not belong here in the "Fan Fiction" area in my opinion.
Personally, I like both of you, Jersey and Xaqtly, but this constant bickering about copyrights and what a fan can or cannot do is getting on my last nerve. Thankfully, I am not a forum moderator, as I would probably close this once great thread, but I do believe that what a fan makes or creates should still maintain some form of copyright and credit to the original creators who inspired us to make or write pieces.
Besides, I've seen tote bags, T-shirts and other hand-crafted items that have been fan made for private usage, but are on a public website for display and a sign of how much this series continues to inspire them. So what is so wrong with this? I make fan-videos, write fan-fictions, and even draw fan art all the time - do you see the authorities on my butt right now? I don't think so (because if they get me, they should very well arrest all of us. It's only fair, yes?)!
I hate to say it, but both of you have been acting like children. I only want this to return to being the inspiring place where fans can tell how much they love the method of storytelling that Xaqtly uses to express his love for the characters that we too love.
Thanks.

Actually this all started with a friendly & respectful question about whether Xaqtly had covered himself Copyright-wise and there was NO reason to HAVE to "take it to PMs". There is no rule on this site saying any questions like that HAVE to be handled through PMs and JerseyCaptain was actually correct. It is copyright violation to even use Universal's characters in fan creations like fictions or art without express permission - something no fan actually has. Companies like Universal or Disney don't crack down on removing fan creations like fictions or art because in most cases all it does is help promote their material. So long as you don't claim Copyright over it. However printing and publishing books would certainly get them annoyed and as Togo pointed out - printing a fan fiction containing copyrighted characters is not allowed on Blurb (not to mention the use of Universal's art on the covers). From Xaqtly's post about being able to buy the book it suggests making some form of profit from it in the future should anyone buy it from Blurb, even if you've made no profit so far. Quoted from Blurb itself: Quote: Profit — Set Your Price, sell your books in the Blurb Bookstore, and keep 100% of the markup. Yes, it’s that simple. Monitor your money — View your book’s up-to-the-minute sales and profits on Blurb.com What’s the catch? — There isn’t one. We charge nothing to participate in this service. Xaqtly's book WAS in the Blurb Bookstore. Simply printing it for your own personal usage via a private printer would more than likely be overlooked by Universal representatives but selling it would most certainly not. I personally find it awful that someone would "attack" someone in this way JUST for trying to help them out. Now seeing as talking about said book is not allowed on BS and it's since been removed from Blurb I don't want to see ANY more arguments in this topic nor have to deal with flames and arguments via PMs. JC does not owe any apologies for pointing out a potential problem you could have faced and was simply trying to help you. Technically you should each apologise to each other for what has been said since in the arguments but I don't imagine that would accomplish anything except more fights over who owes who an apology (which to be honest should be obvious). Now I suggest doing what Juuchan has suggested and returning to talking ONLY about Xaqtly's fan fictions on THIS site.

So because there have been no reports via YouTube or BMI, that must mean it's okay? Well using your logic, since there have been no reports to me about my books, that must also mean it's okay. That's some stellar logic you're using there.
Unless you received explicit permission to use everything you've used in your fictions and your video, you are just as in violation as anybody else. Just because Universal hasn't come down on you doesn't mean you're free and clear.
And you seem to be confused about something here, despite the fact that I've already explained it to you. Let me try again. You have not committed libel for telling me about copyright. You have committed libel for accusing me of making a profit from my books. Was that clear enough for you? Do you need me to say it again?
The libel comes from the accusation that I am making a profit from the books. Accusing me of that is libel, pure and simple. From your own definition:
a. defamation by written or printed words
I'd say what you're doing here fits that description pretty exactly. As long as you continue to baselessly accuse me of making a profit from the books, you are committing libel. It is that simple. You know why? Because the accusation is UNTRUE. That gives me a pretty good leg to stand on. You think Blurb doesn't keep records of whether people set the option to make a profit or not? You have to sign up for a program on the site called "Set Your Price". If you don't sign up for it, then you don't receive a single cent.
Since I didn't sign up for it, the price you see on the site covers the overhead for the book and nothing else. It doesn't go to me, it goes to Blurb and their printers. But you and your ego are in pretty deep now, aren't you? Wouldn't want to lose face by being proven wrong about the one thing you've been most vocal about here, would you?
So once again I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is and PROVE that I'm making a profit from those books, since obviously my word isn't good enough for you. Despite the fact that I have no earthly reason to charge money for those books. Or just do what you usually do and ignore this entire thing and go off on a tangent about something else. I'll bet money that's what you do instead of backing up your ridiculous accusations with facts.

UK - as I pointed out in my last post, the "Set Your Price" option is exactly that - an OPTION. You have to sign up for that service in order to set your own price. I did not sign up for that service and therefore I am not making a profit or a single cent from those books. This is a concept Jersey has yet to grasp, and he continues to harass me about it, while at the same time not caring enough to check and see if he's actually right or not. Sorry, but I don't enjoy being accused of crimes I didn't commit. As I explained in multiple posts, THAT is why he owes me an apology. Not because he pointed out copyright issues. Oh, that and also the name calling, and telling me I'm a bad influence on the kids, etc. He actually has a lot to apologize for.
