"GET THIS STUFF OFF OF ME!" Flash yowled. He was shaking the paint from his fur. Athina giggled from above. She jumped to the ground and nuzzled her mate.
Jenna giggled. "You have a very good mind" Jenna said.

"Sorry buddy but it scared them off." said Balto. He looked back to Jenna. "Anyway thanks for being a good friend." he said. "And not believing the bad stuff they said about me, everyone thinks a wolfdog is nothing but trouble but I'm not." he said. "They can't see past the surface, like Steele, when he knows people are watching, he acts like an angel but when no one watches, he's a bully and a liar. I've got a good heart but I'm an outcast because of how I look. See how I feel?"

Flash frowned. He rolled in the snow trying to get the paint off. "How Are the kids supposed to think their father is? A skunk?" Flash hissed.
Jenna could feel the cold, empty, saddness inside Balto's eyes. She hadn't seen anything worse than that. She could smell Slyvie and Dixie not far away. "Balto, Its great to be your friend." She said. She nuzzled him and walked into her back yard. She didn't want the Rumors to start.

Balto had never in his life been nuzzled by any dog but his father and he liked it. "Thank you Jenna." he said, blushing under his fur. "Jenna, I forgot to tell you, that bandana looks very nice on you." he said then turned to Flash. "Sorry but you just need some real water." he said. "Lets go back to the boat, Boris is a wiz at cleaning."
Silvie set next to Dixie. "What took Steele so long? He normally goes through here at least once a day, he has to to see the races don't he?"

Dixie looked at Slyvie. The gossip dog of the town was actually wondering about something? "I don't know, word is somthing happened to him. Aren't you the gossip dog Slyvie?" Dixie asked. Still shocked.
Jenna walked through her front door and trotted up to the two. "Whats up guys?" She asked them. She had rolled in the garden in her backyard. To keep the Balto smell off.

"Give me a minute." said Silvie. She walked into an ally a few blocks down and came back laughing her head off. "You won't believe it, Steele had a little embearessing accdent, he got a whole bucket of pink paint dumpped on him and right in front of the sled team, he didn't see them but they saw him." she said. "He's already washed it off but I figure he'll be a laughing stock for a day or two." she said. In her mind she had to admit, Steele had deserved a little pay back for tormenting Balto.

Balto walked up to his boat. "Doesn't matter as long as we're on my boat." he said. "Every dog knows its not a good idea to go on another dog's terrorty, this is my turf, I have the advantage here, I know the battlefield and Steele knows that."
Meanwhile, several older sled dogs were making fun of Steele for being painted pink.

Steele was only a pup so he looked up at the larger dogs. Heremebered Balto. He stood up taller, almost the same size as the dogs, and he growled. "IF YOU EVER TALK ABOUT ME LIKE THAT AGAIN-!" Steele barked in their faces.

One of the larger dogs pushed Steele down, one named Ricky. "You'll do what squrt? Attack any of us and you'll be out of the sled team and you don't want that do you?" he asked. He was Steele's babysitter but really didn't care about what Steele did when he wasn't training but he wanted Steele to be a sled dog and wouldn't let him ruin it and Steele knew he was doing it for his own good.

Ricky pinned Steele down and wiped the blood off. He put his snout next to Steele's ear. "Don't you get it you psycho? I'm trying to stop you from getting yourself kicked off the team. I know you care about being a lead dog right? Well if you don't watch it around the sled team, they'll make sure your owner thinks your the worst sled dog in history." he whispered in his ear, sternly.

Steele growled and scrambled out from underneath him. He got up and ran away towards his master.
Flash walked up the steps with Athina. "Hey, Balto" Flash said. "Do you mind watching the kits while Athina and I look around fro a place to stay while we live here in Nome?" He added.

"I've got an idea." said Balto. He tore a board back from the lower part of the ship. He lead the way to an old matrice with a blanket as well as it was in the back away from the wind, snow, and rain. "I made it just for you Flash, you could call it my guest room." he said. "Its not much but I worked my best to make it for my friend and its big enough for your family."
