Stella... uh-uh. You could say a lot worse about her than just spunky and airheaded. You guys cannot possibly think that any single line spoken by the Stella character was more annoying than the annoying and very bad human-doing-barking and bad Scottish accent/falsetto "the stork has arrrrrrived! The stork...has arrrrrrived!" Etc. Because, to my ears, that was worse than being tied into a schoolroom desk and being forced to listen to someone dragging their long fingernails across a blackboard...and back again. I never said Stella's dialogue was annoying - but thanks for reminding me. I was talking about her character. As for the dog's antics, I live with a Pitbull/lab mix with that dog's brain, so I'm used to it. Now Stella, her I don't WANT to get used to.

By about a thousand miles! lol True, but character is not just about quantity, it's about quality. I'd rather have a little bit of something mediocre than a heap of something foul. And to me, Stella is downright odious. I never implied that it was ever just about quantity versus quality. To me, Stella is not odious in the least. I'd rather have the spice than all that mediocrity and, in the case of that freaking dog, far less than mediocre. But hey - that's me. I don't settle for mediocrity.

I have a feeling with the yippy terrier Balto wouldve thought Jenna was in something different.

Jock, the Scottish terrier in the Lady and the Tramp movies is quite intelligent, and he's the same breed. It's not about them presuming real-world physicality...it's about lousy and cheap acting "talent" in this and some other select cases with the Balto sequels.

What does the terrier from WQ have to do with Jock? I haven't seen LATT2, but I doubt the characters' respective brain sizes can be compared.

Origamist wrote: What does the terrier from WQ have to do with Jock? I haven't seen LATT2, but I doubt the characters' respective brain sizes can be compared. First of all, in response to the basic question you posed, Dogmatic said: DogmaticPup wrote: You cant blame it for being dumb, its brain is about the size of a grapefruit. I was making a comparison between an animated Scottish terrier done very WELL, and showing some real intelligence as a character, and this ridiculous character in Balto 2, which DogmaticPup appears to be inferring is such a scatterbrain because it's brain is the size of a grapefruit. Which is utterly irrelevant to the original point I raised anyway. Thus the comparison. My criticisms of the character have to do with bad voice acting making it a real annoyance. And it is. To me. Is that really a big freaking problem here? I THOUGHT we all were entitled to indicate what we viewed as the worst character in all the films. For me, it is the terrier in Balto 2. But I guess I cannot say that, hm? People can trash Stella all they please, but if I state my selection as to the worst, I get this and more. How lovely. Incidentally, Jock was in both LATT films, not just in the sequel.

I wasn't trying to bash your opinion, so sorry if I came across that way. I guess different animators portray the same species (breed) in different ways.

Yeah, the Scottie's personality doesn't bug me...he is kind of a realistic dog! (I too have known a couple similar ones.) I can understand if you find fault with the voice acting and think it irritating. At least there wasn't that much of it for you to put up with. And he *was* basically just serving as a messenger--so you know what they say...don't shoot the messenger, lol. Not to get way too technical on a thread about allegedly annoying characters from Balto sequels, but brain size has much less to do with intelligence than brain mass does (the more convolutions or wrinkles/folds it has, the greater the surface area, the more neural connections, and the higher the intelligence...) So it should more accurately be surmised that the little guy has a relatively smooth brain, rather than just a small one. At any rate, all individuals of a breed are unique, and Scotties certainly aren't a "dumb" one overall. I've seen a variety of characters belonging to the breed (Jock, the WQ one, MacGreggor from Nine Dog Christmas, Tail Terrier from Krypto the Superdog, etc.)--and aside from the seemingly requisite accent (Tail Terrier's is actually western, funnily enough) and some form of the typical terrier feist, they're all quite different. Anyway, I really have no problem with anyone's selections of least favorite character; everybody's entitled to his or her own opinions. For me, it's at least much easier to choose least favorites out of the sequels than the original. I'd never contest the opinion that Jock is a better character than the nameless Balto terrier, although it might be somewhat unfair because Jock's role is more substantial and developed. All the same, I've never had anything against this guy, either for his actions or even for his voice/dialog.

Letranger wrote: he *was* basically just serving as a messenger--so you know what they say...don't shoot the messenger All the hopping and barking was unnecessary. He could just as easily have said something like, "Balto, I think you need to see Jenna. They've arrived!" That would be fine.

Well, sure, but the little fella had a hyper, excitable temperament...and especially at a time like that, people can get pretty carried away.

They still could have accomplished it in a much less irritating way. I've seen real Scottish terriers that are about, oh...a BILLION TIMES less annoying than that poorly-conceived bit playing cartoon character, Letranger.

Oh, I have too. But he never much bothered me, as I said. I just took him as the type of character who's deliberately intended to be annoying, but in a humorous and somewhat lovable way (obviously, not everyone's going to agree.) Better things can and have certainly been done with bit characters, but regardless, he is what he is (and, fortunately, not very representative of his breed.)

Agreed. I've always seen him as intended to be some king of comic relief, just not pulled off correctly.
