I could tell just from the commercial that this movie was and is going to be worse than terrible. Not only do the backgrounds not match the originals, but the entire plotline is both overused and inacurate.
From what I got out of it, Todd and Copper (both STILL young since it's a "midquel" [those types of movies seem to be very popular nowadays ]) nearly "lose" their friendship because Copper's too busy being in some drunk guy's all-dog country band. Ok, the ORIGINAL movie showed the lives of the two from the VERY BEGINNING to the VERY END. We all know what happened to Copper and Todd while they were still young. They met and played together for approximately two days. Then they separated: Copper moving away for the winter (possibly longer) to become a hunting dog, while Todd stayed on the farm and wussed up.
Now, I have one question for those making this godforsaken midquel: WHEN THE HECK DID COPPER HAVE THE TIME TO BE IN A BAND?! His master started training him to be a hunting dog right from the get-go (because that's how all dog owners do it) Why the heck would he want him to get involved in some wussy "band"??
I can bet you anything Big Mama will either A) Not sound ANYTHING like herself or B) Not be in it at all. Which either way would make the movie 10 times worse because Big Mama MADE the first movie rock! Just with that one line "Big Mama's gon' be RIGHT back!"
So in conclusion, I dont even NEED to see the movie to know that it'll have naught to do with the first one and in turn make it SUCK beyond all reason.

Unlike Disney's recently-good DTV sequels (Bambi 2 and Brother Bear 2), FatH2 looks more cartoony and too bright and happy - a complete 180 of the original film. And I agree, the plotline sucks. Big time. Yeah, I think you pretty much got the basic plot down pat. The "midquel/sequel" is going to suck. And don't forget: when Copper left Tod, Tod soon learned that one day, Copper would most likely hunt him down . . . not my choice, but because it was natural for him. Yeah, Tod became a wuss. Quote: Now, I have one question for those making this godforsaken midquel: WHEN THE HECK DID COPPER HAVE THE TIME TO BE IN A BAND?! I don't know really. Perhaps the Disney research depatment didn't really do their job very well. I noticed that too. (I think they only went down this path for the musical aspect of the film - you know, the good-olde country sound that it seem the "sequel" is all about? Stupid.) And also, this is Disney we're talking about. They probably want to make it so that Tod and Copper actually had fun as kids. (Uh, wasn't that the point of the original?) It's like she knew everything from the get-go. (Most likely, she won't be in it. Either will Dinky or Boomer . . . *sigh* Those birds were cool, dude. Or Squeaks! omg.) I think I'll stick with the first one, but I'll probably be curious about the sequel for maybe a quick rental . . . then I'll tell you if it really did bomb. (But I agree with you, Cat - It really will suck, but I'm curious to see how things are handled . . . I have a feeling that something else will happen that the previews aren't showing us yet.)

*sigh* I don't even think Big Mama could save FatH2 . . . so yeah, it's gonna suck.
(If only my home computer was fast enough . . . then I'd be on YouTube all the time too!)

I don't really want to waste my money, but I'll just rent it when it comes out just to see how bad it is and laugh at it. I'll be sure not to buy it, and I cannot believe how they did the animation. It's like disney only cares about money these days. It's awful, and I hate how they did Tod. =( Tod is my favorite, and he looked so much like a fox in the first movie. He looks so scary now, and just so.. not foxish. I don't see the point in a second movie, unless their going to do the animation and stuff right and show Tod's and Copper's and all them in The fox and the hound 1 movie about their life, and all. Have a -good- plot. Bambi 2 was really good, but I can tell that this "Fox and the hound 2" is going to suck big time.
It showed them as kids in the first movie, and we know their lifes as kids. Their grown up now, so why show them as kids in the second movie? Why even have a second movie? Oh well, complaining isn't going to do anything. Not that we can do anything. Just watch it, I guess. Poor Toddie and Copper. Copper sounds like a wussy girl, and Tod looks awful in the second movie. =(

Its all because WALT DISNEY was the true creator of the GOOD disney films but his brother ROY DISNEY is killing them for money.........
Walt was SOOO much better at it!

True, true . . .
I'm not a huge fan of most sequels (actually, I like the ones that tell good stories and actually bring back that good feeling from the original films) or the recent Midquel BOOM, but I agree. There actually might be a good story that the writers of F&H2 are trying to tell. Sure, the animation might look like crap, but the story might be the strongest part of all . . . and you won't know it unless you give it a chance.
I think I'm probably gonna buy it the day it comes out . . . out of curiosity and all. (I did the same thing with Brother Bear 2 and I liked it, although it really could have been better. It wasn't a midquel, but it felt . . . like I had seen the movie before somehow. I'm not gonna spoil it if you haven't seen it, but this is so off-topic. XD) Besides, I'm a true Disney fan, and even if it sucks, I'll still find some way to like it.
So yeah, don't judge it so soon. It'll be out on Tuesday, so by this time next week, I should have my review of it up here. Then we can judge it.
(Actually, I've seen some of the recent TV ads for it, and they don't say much about the main story (except they mainly show Tod and Copper playing like they did in the first movie as kids; the other stuff they show is the occasional glimpse of the Singing Strays (the singing dog group) and other stuff . . . but it's not too important for the audience IMO. Tod and Copper are the stars. Nyah-nyah.), but I do know that something about Copper joining the dog group makes Tod jealous. Typical childish arguments. I think we all know what happens in the end . . . especially if you've watched the first film.
Hmm, this makes me wonder: At what point in their childhood does this film take place? I guess we'll find out on Tuesday! I can't wait! ^__^

Well, the commercials for the film are saying that it's a good old family-friendly movie . . . . so yeah.
OMG, it's out on DVD! Must . . . watch it . . . . XD
I'll still watch it (renting or buying it in a matter of hours - I haven't decided yet), and then I'll see if it's any good. From what I see, it sounds like a good film, showing the early signs of the troubles of a really good friendship, long before the personal troubles that Tod and Copper had when they became enemies in the second-half of the original film. Sure, it's "kiddified" for today's audiences and the animation looks way different (most likely due to new animators/character designers/etc.) than the original, but I think (and I'm hoping) that the story and the overall theme of friendship will make this a better film than what I think it is.
[EDIT] - I have found some links, in case you're curious with the film:
- Animated News' screenshot samples and other info: If only they had a clip . . . I really want these scenes to be explained . . . especially the Peanut Butter bit. XD Click the link to see what I mean!
- Wikipedia's entry for the film: Gah, I don't see any more reviews or sneak peek sites right now . . . except for one more . . .
- Disney's main site for the "midquel"
[EDIT-end]

*boing! Double Post*
Hey you guys! I got my copy of F&tH2! I'll watch it tonight and tell you what I think about it tomorrow, okay? It looks cute, cover-wise, I will say that!
And I'm surprised: the running time is short! It's only a little bit over an hour (64 minutes, I do believe . . .), while the original was 80 + minutes. I'm also surprised by this: Just like Brother Bear 2, there's a insight on the film's music . . . and nothing about how the wirters got the ideas for the story. I'm disappointed by that.
And I'm guessing that if you like country music, you'll probably be toe-tapping throughout most of it . . . that's the theme I'm getting here.
Anywho, I'll either edit this or post a new post when I talk about how terrible or (surprisingly) good it is. Later!
[EDIT - 12/13/06] - Here's my review of it on Keyframe: CLICK
It was better than I thought it would be, but it wasn't much better. The new characters were more interesting than Tod and Copper IMO! But yeah, I liked it. For a midquel teaching good values, anyway.
