Chenoas calf-hood, at first was as normal as the other calfs. But it soon wouldnt be,her parents should've loved her and wanted to care for her. But they didnt, her parents hearts were as icy cold as the north that they lived in. They never had wanted a calf to raise, they were selfish, cruel and black-souled. So when one day, they woke up, they decided it was time to leave the herd, and move else-where. They thought that now was the time to dump their daughter into the herd, and ran away before she tried to follow them.Thats how Chenoas life changed...
---------
Chenoa eyes opened just a crack as the sunlight streamed into the cave that her and her parents were resting in. She blinked away the sleep in her eyes and sat up, she let out a happy bleat as she saw her parents awake in the corner, whispering. They didnt seem to hear her, so she got up on her hooves and bounded over to them. As she reached them, they stopped their conversation and put on fake smiles. The warmth did'nt reach their eyes, but Chenoa didnt notice. Her mother licked her head.
"Morning Chenoa."
The young calf grinned as her parents said good morning to her. She looked up into their faces, not knowing that they didnt really love her.
"Mother, Father, what are we doing today?" She asked, head tilted.
Her parents glanced briefly at each other before they fake smiled again. "We are going to see the herd." Her father said, as they turned and walked out of the entrance. Chenoa bleaped in excitement, she ran after them, her tiny hooves going as fast as possible.
She didnt notice the smirks her parents wore on their faces, they would be rid of her soon...
----------
A herd of caribou were grazing in a snowcapped meadow, cows helped their calfs find enough grass, and bulls munched on what they could get, while the leader watched them all, waiting. The strong bull had been warned by two Caribou a few days ago, that they would be leaving for anougher home, also they said they were leaving their daughter, Chenoa, behind with his herd. The leader sighed, he was disgusted that these parents wanted to leave their calf. He wouldve understood if they couldnt properly care for her, or couldnt take her with them..But they had bluntly said, that they didnt love her, and would not care for her. The leader had tried to persuade them but they ended the argument by saying "If you wont take her then, we will take her with us, far away and then leave her in a snow storm. The caribou had no choice but to agree.
As promised the Caribou walked into the meadow, their daughter happily bounded by their side. Not knowing of what they were going to do. The leader walked over to them, the herd looked up, their leader had told them what was going to happen. As expected, all were horrified.
The mother nudged Chenoa towards some curious calfs, who were looking at her. Smiling she walked over to them, as she did this her parents began to back away. At the last moment, Chenoa turned her head to smile at her parents, but she saw them leaving and she instantly frowned and tried to follow. That was when The leader bounded infront of her and blocked her path, sadness etched on his face, he shook his head. Chenoa blinked, confused she called out to her parents.
"Mother! Father!" But they didnt look back, and soon they disapeared into the trees. Utter shock was portrayed on the young calfs face, she looked up at the leader with big red eyes. Full of fear.
"They dont want to be with you anymore..."He sighed, he didnt want to tell her that, but she had to know the truth. Chenoa pushed past him, and tried to find her parents. She ran out of the meadow and into the trees, she searched for hours, never giving up. She couldnt believe it, they loved her, they had said that they loved her.
As a cold wind started to blow, a thought occured to her. What if it was all...a lie?
Tears welled up in her eyes and as a light snow began to fall, they streaked down her face. Even though her fur was fluffy and thick, she would get cold ,she needed to have contact with other caribous soon, or she would freeze.
Chenoa sat down, staring at the ground she let out a sigh. W-why didnt they love me? I didnt do anything to make them not love me..Did I? She sniffed, her eyes red and puffy from her tears, her ears flantened downwards. She shivered, a young calf shouldnt be on their own, espicially since thier could be hunters nearbye. A russle in the bushes made Chenoa jump, her eyes wide she backed away slightly, lowering herself closer to the ground. Too her relief, out stepped the leade caribou and some bulls. He looked down at her with pity.
"Come." He murmered, turning on his heel, he walked away. Chenoa stood up, the bucks by her side, blocking the cold winds from reaching her. She walked with them, no one spoke.
--------
They walked back into th midst of the herd, surpirsingly the leader lead ehr other to a few cows who had calves, they nodded as he walked off. They smiled kindly at her, one spoke.
"Hello, Chenoa. We are going to be looking after you from now on." She pointed her head to a space beside her, that would be where Chenoa would be sleeping. As Chenoa lay down, the other calfs watched her, curious. Sighing, she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
She would never be the same again.
