personally balto is my favorite character of all time. he is just so amazing and awesome in many ways. i also love how he looks more wolf than dog.... it's cool.

Right. Balto was a purebred Siberian Husky (owned by Leonhard Seppala), however many fans take the film too literately. I don't hate what Amblimation did with the film, though I think they could have done things differently to stay closer to the truth.

Kedi - you're mistaken about three things...first, Togo's lineage. His father, Suggen, was part Siberian Husky, and part Alaskan Malamute. His owner, Leonhard Seppala, made that clear.

Second, I don't know where you got the idea that, without Togo, the real Balto would never have become famous. He became famous in spite of Togo's past accomplishments (prior to the serum run) and abilities. Togo's own history was completely and totally irrelevant to Balto's, and made no impact upon it (with the only possible exception being when one or newspaper journalists attempted to attribute Togo's racing records to Balto...according to some historical source material. Newspapers are horrible places to do accurate and reliable historical research). If anything, Balto's sudden rise to fame, after the serum run, impacted upon Togo's notoriety, by shoving him out of the limelight in Alaska (whereas, in the "Lower 48" itself, almost nobody even knew of Togo, nor even much about Siberian Huskies, until Kaasen and Balto's team went on the tour of the U.S. in 1925, and Seppala took his own team on tour in 1926, and then participated in races in Canada and New England in 1927).

Third, while Togo was an excellent and very intelligent (and clever) dog, and one of the best lead dogs in mushing history, in terms of the serum run, he was no more or less heroic than any other dog who ran. He simply led his team a longer distance than any of the other teams. To claim any one dog, who ran in the serum run, was more heroic than another is doing a terrible disservice to the whole group of them...including Togo himself.

Please check your historical resources before making such assertions.

Ironically, this Balto is more like Togo, who was the most heroic of all the dogs. They were of course both 100% husky, but Balto was neutered. Togo was one of the best breed sires of the Siberian Husky. The real Balto was a hero too, but without Togo he never would've been.
