I stand corrected. I admit I had not often encountered the word
"sledge" before, and in the context where I did find it, it appeared
as a synonym for "sleigh" specifically. My only defense is that I did
say "unless I'm mistaken." |

Sorry. I hadn't noticed. I'm thick. I'll change it to mail dog,
shall I? Because I got this from the mail dog team. I just thought
that someone may want a different dog design than Balto or Kodi.
Sorry. I see no one approves of this. |

| O' Cap'n My Cap'n! |
A sledge is a sled. It's semantics largely. There were different
types and sizes of SLEDS back then, but the dogs which drew them were
always called SLED DOGS...or HUSKIES (regardless of whether or not
they were Siberian huskies). "Sledge dog" is a misnomer which I have
never, ever seen used in the historical record, in Alaska at least. Shrugging off the title "as an honest mistake" is all well and good. But asking everyone to do that in the same breath as supporting the notion with an unsubstantiated claim of "a sledge dog would have to be far stronger than a regular sled dog, since sledges, unless I am mistaken, are far larger" is not so easy to shrug off as an honest mistake. If you're going to throw in two cents, make sure that two cents is backed up by solid source material first. |
