From behind Jack's house led a small path into the woods, and it was the very end of this path that Jack would go every day, to wait for Kuro, who had made a promise to him that they'd meet again. It had now been about a month since he left, and while waiting patiently at their meeting spot every day, Jack had still seen no sign of him.
Once again, the young wolfdog sat in his regular spot, waiting. He stared deep into the woods, and let out a heavy sigh, and just then, heard footsteps behind him, raising a brow and glanced over his shoulder, only to see his friend Adak approach him.
- Hey, there you are. I looked for you at your house and since you weren't there, I figured this is where I'd find ya, said Adak with a smile and a raised eyebrow, and Jack greeted him with a nod and a smile.
- Hey, Adak, the wolfdog smiled, and his friend now came to sit down next to him.
- So... still no sign of that wolf, huh? Adak begun, with a raised brow, and Jack let out a small sigh.
- No... I just don't understand what could've happened. I mean, he promised we'd see each other again, and I've been waiting here every d...
- Oh, Jack, buddy, please... Adak interrupted, shaking his head.
- You can't possibly be that blue-eyed.
- What do you mean? wondered Jack, looking at the grey husky, who let out a small sigh.
- What I mean is, you've been coming to this same spot for over a month now, waiting and waiting, to no avail. This isn't healthy anymore, Jack. I think it's time for you to face the cold reality: he's NOT coming back.
Adak spoke with a calm, but clearly frustrated tone, Jack listened to his words carefully, but rather than taking them into heart, he just grew annoyed, and let out a disbelieving scoff.
- And what makes you so sure about it? You don't know Kuro like I do!, he argued.
- Maybe I don't, but I do know this - wolves can't be trusted, Adak continued with an even more annoyed and frustrated tone, and Jack just let out an annoyed scoff.
- Yeah, well, I don't expect you to understand. I guess you've never had a true friend like that, he spoke, turning his head to the side. Adak raised his brows, and felt as if a knife had been struck into his heart, and as he was at a loss of words, he just let out a sigh, dropping his head down, looking at his paws.
- Actually... I thought I was just talking to one, he said quietly, Jack now raised his brows, and looked at his friend, who raised his head, and realized how his words had hurt the grey husky.
- Adak, I'm... I'm sorry, I didn't... I didn't mean...
- Oh, nevermind, Adak interrupted, shaking his head, and rose to his feet, looking at the wolfdog one more time.
- See ya, Jack, he said quietly, then he took off.
- Adak... Adak, wait! Jack called after the husky, but to no avail, and as he disappeared into the distance, he sighed, and lowered his head, closing his eyes.
- I'm sorry, buddy...
