It occurs to me that the caption on this could be read as sending a wrong message about motherhood, so for the record I'm not saying that mothers' roles begin and end with making kids; it never even crossed my mind to suggest that.

To set the record straight, in the first place it takes a lot more than just having kids to be a family - one of the most dysfunctional couples I ever met had a kid. To really be a family takes a lot of time and work, and whether through tradition or temperament, moms often seem to end up doing a lot of it. From personal experience, my mom read to me and my brothers every night, took time to play games with us and teach us things, and perhaps most importantly taught us faith and the difference between right and wrong. I literally would not be the man I am today without her.
