I remember when I was young, a day before I was adopted. It was a sunny, but snowy fresh spring. All of my siblings were all content and happy playing on the beach.
It was okay the time you didn't help me save Benny, dad.
You just watched me.
I knew you were proud.. Weren't you?
You just wanted me to learn how to be strong, that's all.
So I could be as strong as you.
And today I wanted to prove I was as strong as you.
Uncle Caesar and mom had a deep conversation and while my other brother and sisters played, I saw you watching a ways away. I remember feeling a big smile cross my face as I seen you, tripping over my own paws while I made my way to you.
As expected, you smiled in return.
''Daddy! It's been forever! Did'ja miss me?! How have your races been!?''
Your smile faded, almost annoyed for my rather shrieky sounding voice. I mean, I couldn't blame you. But your smile returned fortunately.
''It's been going just fine, son. In fact, I came here just to see you.''
I felt my heart beat faster, as I began giggling and bouncing, nuzzling against your leg. I was so glad when you did. I knew you were busy with your work. It was an honor to have you stop back to see me.
''You came to see me?!'' I cried out.
''Don't make me repeat myself.'' You growled, your icy gaze seeming to watch where I came from. I was taken aback from your response, because I felt my ears lower involuntarily and my smile fade. You noticed this and you gave me a nuzzle with your nose, allowing my smile to return.
''I'm going to spare my precious time to race with you, Iron.'' You whispered into my ear. I let out a tiny gasp in pure surprise. You wanted to race with me!?
''Bring it on, dad!'' I smiled. Your smile faded again and you led me up the hill.
As soon as we got there, You got into a racing stance. I watched your movements and followed them. You were a racing champion! The coolest dad ever!
''Ready.. Set..''
''Go!''
Then it started. You took the lead, but I was close behind. You looked back, your eyes widening and I was gaining on you. Yeah, I was surprisingly fast for a pup! I don't think any of my other litter mates could've done it.
We made it down the hill, but I noticed you swerve abruptly.
I couldn't stop, dad. My body couldn't allow me to.
I was soon tumbling over a large branch with a yelp, down the hill. Hitting a large pile of snow, my dizzy surroundings cleared. I tried hard to catch my breath as I shook my head getting the snow off. I seen you standing above me. And your face..
Held complete and utter
D i s a p p o i n t m e n t.
''Daddy, I..''
''No son of mine will EVER have such horrible agility as you just performed. You should've seen that branch!''
''No, it was an accident, I was going too fa-''
''YOU ARE NOT MY SON!''
I wasn't scared of your voice.
But I was hurt by your words.
I watched you walk away.
You know why I was so fast?
Because all day, everyday at the beach I ran, I trained, no matter how much all of the other pups rolled their eyes at me.
When no one gave you a second chance, I understood and came to see you.
I tried to make you proud, dad.
I'm sorry.
I failed you.
I understand why now you glared at me when we were being adopted off.
It's okay.
I still love you..
Even if I failed you, please don't forget me, okay?
