Why the long face Boychick?

Why the long face Boychick?

Boris sees Saba depressed and with concern, asks him why he's upset.

(Saba get's bullied on from other pups his age and they won't include him in play time because he's part wolf)

You're welcome.

I like the idea of Saba being male, even if I do agree that the character's voice sounded female in WQ. It eliminates the 'exact copy of her mother' stereotype that goes through most of the Sabas that are created. lol

O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
Well, with total respect, Cat, here's what I'll say regarding the name thing (while acknowledging that, whatever Santa Cruz wishes to do with a render, within those boundaries, especially because this is such a darned good render, is up to her)...

I don't know that Phil Weinstein and his production team, or the script writers, took it to the level of researching the ethnic origins of names that far...onto other continents and obscure origins. lol My thinking, as I mentioned to you off-site (and has been suggested by some others) is that the name probably occurred to them one evening after a visit to a local Studio City sushi bar ("saba" - http://www.sushiencyclopedia.com/sushi_menu/mackerel_sushi.html ). I think we all know the Los Angeles metropolitan area, including the area containing the entertainment industry, is loaded with trendy sushi places. Well, that's my theory anyway.

As to the gender thing? Granted, it's never been officially established that either Saba or even Dingo (let alone the two unnamed pups) are either male or female. But it's not a great leap of reason to presume that they meant for Saba to be interpreted as a girl, and Dingo as a boy.

Not that all of this has much bearing on this particular render, unless Santa Cruz wishes to make use of any of it. XD

Alpha > Reading the comments would be beneficial to your knowledge LOL Saba's gender is 100% NOT mentioned in the movie. I said that we just associate Saba with being a girl because it's typically a girl's name, and we English-speakers associate "a" with feminine and "o" with masculine. BUT Saba is also a boy's name, in Arabic.

Also, I say keep the name if you like it. It's been established that Saba is a gender-neutral name.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Saba a female? (Doesn't feel like reading the other comments, but apparently it she is)
But great render, Saba looks adorable.

EDIT: Oh... wait. My bad. You drew Saba! I thought she looked a little too adorable to be from that Balto II animation!

Haha thank you DT I'll consider it. Until then I think I'll have to put down Angel in my little credits list

You may wish to mention Angel in the credits, since you rendered off of her. Just a suggestion.

I'd also personally recommend changing the name if you can, just so people won't be confused. If not it's no biggie; one of my favorite writers had a male char with a name most Balto fans would associate with a girl, although in that case it was addressed in the story and the name was one that, in real life, would usually be a boy's name to begin with. Just putting that out there.

Yea exactly, give it a try

Thank you Cat for the helpful advice. Rendering off Angel was both easy and hard. Easy for the neck down. Very hard for the ears. I enjoy rendering off of Angel but maybe I can take the ears of the Balto puppies and trace it over my render? ;)
