I think the main reason Balto's color was changed was because of budget cuts! You gotta remember that the staff of the sequels had a budget, so they were limited on what details they could and couldn't have. They most likely made his color straight up gray in the sequels because it was cheaper. That way, they could focus on adding other, more important, details.

i think they are trying to imply that he "aged" but wolves/dogs usually dont get darker
but i think they made him more dark in the 2nd one because they wanted to show more "wolf" and in the first one they wanted to show he was part wolf, but again its stupid.

I personally think its only for to show the age differences.

I hate that they changed balto's color!!! It's not grey stupid animaters it's brown! I wish someone from balto source could have drew the movie intead. Thanks for comparing them ^^ and also jenna looks like a child in the second one. And alue looks older than her XD
