''Well, well, well, would you look what the cat dragged in? What town did you just stumble in from today, Chase?'' Vincent asked as soon as he caught a glimpse of his father. Of course it was him; the black fur was a dead giveaway. There were few dogs in Fairbanks with that pelt, many of them were either far too small or far too large to be the sleek sleddog though.
''Speak for yourself, son. Must've gotten that tumor on your neck from your mom's side.'' Chase retorted, stopping in his tracks with wide eyes. Vincent felt anger boil his blood, but forced his face to remain calm. His mother had reassured him that nobody would comment on his sudden burst of height that left him with gangly limbs, but she'd never said anything on the disproportionately sized tuft of fur on his neck.
''Really? Mom says it makes me look like you. Infact, she says I get most of my looks from you, Chase.'' Vincent hissed, giving a smirk. Chase gave a sigh, rose a brow and shook his head.
''Son, are you telling me that I look like an idiot?'' He asked, flicking an ear. Vincent let out an exasperated growl, and took off down the street, leaving his father in front of the general store.

Vincent wasn't always the sarcastic old man he turned out to be. First he had to be an awkward teenager who thought he could put one over on his father.
That's a problem when your father is Chase.
