Fawn padded softly next to her mate, the much larger, lithe black husky. The kennels where the rest of his team slept was only a few buildings away. It was late, Chase should've gone back ages ago but instead he'd chosen to stay up hanging out with her. This was a strange choice for Fawn to comprehend; there was a big race tomorrow, one that would determine many future races. Fawn cast her eyes up at the sled dog, his head held high and his stare steady on the road ahead. He was the lead dog of his team, and even as he walked down the dark, snow strewn street, he commanded attention and authority.
Of course, his seriousness could be switched on and off. In a flash, as Chase turned to her, it was gone. His gaze softened.
''What?'' He asked, chuckling a little. Fawn frowned, and then looked ahead once more.
''I just wanted to tell you to be careful, I mean I normally don't see you before a race. I might as well tell you now.'' Fawn said, quietly. Chase flicked his ears dismissively, and looked back to the building that loomed in front of them.
''I mean it, Chase.'' Fawn said, her voice firmer. The sled dog looked back at her. ''Be careful.'' She continued, slowly. A mischievous look flashed onto her mate's face, and in a flash he sprang away from her.
''Always am, darlin'!'' He called over his shoulder. ''Always am. You take care of yourself while I'm gone now, alright?'' He voice continued on even as he almost completely disappeared. Fawn lost sight of him for a bit, then caught a glimpse of Chase as he slunk through a half opened door. Barks of greeting confirmed that he had entered the kennel.
Fawn stayed there for awhile, until a harsh breeze sent her heading towards home. She bit back a smile as she looked back to the building. Sure, Chase had his flaws but someone had to be there to take care of him. They hadn't been together for long but Fawn was determined to make it work, and figured Chase felt the same. He was, after all, the most stubborn and determined dog she'd ever met her entire life.

Poor Fawn.
She doesn't know what the future will hold for her yet.
