If any of my character deserved a second, or even third look, it was this lovely girl. Ever since her creations, probably about a year and half ago, Yesmei (new spelling, pronounced "Yez[like "Pez," as in the candy]-may") has fiercely kept a very special place in my heart. From her signature bangs, signature frowny face, and signature chest ridge, to the tip of her multicolored tail, to her traditionally florescent red claws, to her cold, caring mannerisms, to her fiercly gentle spirit, to her shear strength, I never would have guessed that a background character, who was designed completely on a whim just for my fanfic, would still be around, as as strongly as she is today.

Design 1 (the old): The original, very quickly scribbled down design. Yesmie was meant to be my own version of Kay Fedewa's "Swiftkill," minus the voodoo, well, kind of, she does have similar scars. Cliche, I know. Shoot me.
While I can still stand this design, I don't ever want to have to use it again, and thank goodness I don't. It's not a bad design, really, despite the fact that the colors are too bold, and neither them nor the markings are the least bit realistic, but I created Yesmie back before I cared about stuff like that. The number one thing she was missing, however, was an undercoat. True, while the absence of one doesn't look too bad with these markings, it had to be changed.
Designs 2 and 2.1 (the ugly): Shield your eyes, children!
One of the biggest draw backs that I face when drawing is that I am forced to draw everything by hand (not that I mind all that much) and scan everything onto the computer to be colored. The problem herein lies in the scanner at our house. It sucks, which means that if I want to scan anything, I need to cram as much in as I can while we are at my dad's, and email myself the files if I don't have my laptop. This, off course, means that there is an unbearable delay in coloring any new designs that I conjure up, and this delay is obvious in the "middle versions" of Yesmei's design. I actually had to draw the new design on an old drawing, which NEVER ends well, and then started wrestling out some colors. Her undercoat was completely new, and I assumed that it could be made with a lighter version of the base coat color, right? Unless your base color is a red variant, then no, your character's undercoat turns out pink. I also darkened the red and brown when I should have washed it a bit instead, making them worse. I wasn't too worried about that, however, as Yesmei was still pink. So I decided to borrow some colors from another red character, Jenna. That undercoat didn't work out too well either.
Design 3 (the good): This new design started in the midst of cleaning my room. I came across a collection of high quality post cards, each with a different wolf depicted on it, with one being a red wolf. The autumn tones of her scarlet and golden coat caught my eye immediately, and I knew what Yesmei's new undercoat color would be. After rendering the latest drawing of her design, which resulted in a much more accurate guide of her new markings, tweaking the colors, and darkening them slightly, finally finding an undercoat that I liked, and making the whole thing look nice, I finally had Yesmei 3.0. Not completely realistic, but I refuse to change it. Again. Not for another month at least.
