Balto had run off into the blizzard, he hadn't cared that it could kill him. It was better than living with the fact that Jenna, his mate, had been with Steele, had a litter of pups with that glory hound, and didn't tell Balto. At all. He felt betrayed, stabbed in the heart. Jenna had destroyed him, he had no reason to stay in Nome anymore.
Boris and Stella had returned to Russia and had their family. Muk and Luk could see Balto in the wild. It was perfect. If he found Nava, he could live with him, and Niju. Even if Balto and Niju had their differences, they'd learn to work together.
Now Balto just had to find Nava. So Balto sat down, and began to think about where to start looking. Obviously Nava's old home by the cliffs were now abandoned because there was no prey, so he probably moved on. Balto's only hope was the mountains.
Then Balto heard soft crunches of snow behind him. He turned around, and gasped. It was now a pure white wolf, like his mother, Aniu, but a cream, off-white she-wolf. From a distance in the falling snow, one would think their eyes were playing a trick on them, but it was a wolf, with gold and dark brown eyes.
''Are you lost?'' She said when she approached him.
''Umm...slightly.'' Balto said, not quite sure how to respond to her.
The female smiled, snowflakes dancing around her. ''Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Keela.''
''I'm Balto.''
''Where do you live?''
''I used to live in Nome.''
''Used to?''
''Not anymore. I'm actually looking for a friend of mine. He's an elder wolf, used to be the alpha of the Golden Cliff Clan, until they moved across the sea. His name is Nava. He stayed behind with a younger wolf named Niju.''
''Nava? I know him!'' She replied cheerfully.
''Really, how?'' Balto replied, somewhat surprised by her open and kind personality, coming from a wolf.
''He's my uncle. He came looking for me with Niju and asked to stay in my pack for a bit.''
''You aren't a part of the Golden Cliff Clan? I thought most wolves don't leave their birth pack.'' Balto replied, confused.
''I was once in the Golden Cliff Clan, but that was a long time ago...'' Keela's voice trailed off, into a darker tone.
Understanding her tone, Balto didn't press about it, but asked, ''So, who is your clan now?''
It took Keela a moment, but she replied, ''Silver Tundra Clan.''
They both shivered, as the wind picked up. Night was coming, they had to get going.
Keela offered, ''How about we go back to the pack? I'm sure they'd like to meet you. You can also see Nava.''
''Sounds good.'' Balto replied.
Before he could stand up, Keela raised her right paw, in a similar stance as Aleu, except much more enchanting, and howled to her pack. Balto was dumbstruck by her pretty voice, he had never enjoyed a wolf's howl, but her's was so magical. It made the snow dance. She smiled, and led the way.
