You take the she-wolf to the boat. It took you one hour to get there and when you do, you place her on the deck of the boat carefully; as you do so, you hear her howl softly but weakly. Soon a brown puppy comes running up to the two of you and starts to cry, laying down next to the white wolf and licking her cheek. "Mother! Mother!" the puppy cried, "Don't die Mother! Please don't die!" You feel bad for the puppy and now feel guilty for making the pup watch its mother die. "You brought me to see my son..." you hear the wolf gasp weakly, "As a sign of my thanks...I want you to name him." You aren't very good at naming things, so you pick the first thing that comes to you, "Balto." The she-wolf smiled, as if approving of the name, and closes her eyes slowly as death over-took her like a blanket. The puppy, Balto, kept crying and soon began to howl. After thirty minutes Balto still didn't show signs of stopping his howl. "You'll loose your howling voice if you keep that up." you warn him, but he ignored you and kept howling. After another thirty minutes, Balto stopped and looked down at the she-wolf sadly. "I don't care if I loose my howling voice..." he rasped, "I don't want to howl anything ever again..." You leave Balto and never visited him again, feeling too guilty for what you did. After a few days, you hear the strangest rumor about a brown wolf-dog puppy being raised by a goose. Weird huh? |
