Balto (The Revelation)
Chapter 20 – The Brotherhood
“You had failed too…” Zin, the white wolf, started among the darkness of the cave, “You’re no different from me, Kanto…”
“Silent!” Kanto greeted to him, making the noise all of sudden, “I’ll be success if he was no there.”
“He?” Zin grinned, staying away from the black wolf, “Who is he?”
“You need not to know,” Kanto replied calmly.
The male white wolf only chuckled, hearing the excuse of Kanto’s making. As the one of Shogun’s member, he had already known Lord Shogun accepted only success, not fail like before. The punishment would be painful than the reward they would gain. Slowly, he then looked above, remembering something forgotten.
“Perhaps, I will need his help now…” he started over the black wolf, making Kanto fell in curiosity.
“Who do you mean?” Kanto asked.
“You need not to know…” Zin replied, making his way on leaving the place.
Within a minute, he then disappeared from that dark place, only leaving his foot mark and scents. The black wolf, Kanto, didn’t understand, but only guessing he would cause any defeat for him. The remaining black wolves of soldier were still there, lining up as usual as soon as he glanced over the other side of cave. Now, all his thinking only how to make his way to conquer another win smoothly next time.
“What a day…” Aleu smiled, glancing to Raka beside her, “Don’t you agree, Raka?”
“Huh? What?” Raka suddenly woke up to the reality from his own mind, “What did you say before?”
“Raka, are you daydreaming again?” Aleu asked, starting to inspect him, “It seems it happens often…”
“No! What are you talking about?” Raka replied, denying it only to see Aleu was smiling over him, “I’m just thinking about the pack.”
As the Alpha, Aleu felt something strange about his words, but she finally took it from him, trusting due he was the beta. She then walked away from there, leaving Raka behind. As soon as the blue wolf was sure enough Aleu didn’t notice him, he then sighed. He managed to hide this feeling for her. Every time he came close to her, he just felt this uneasiness, making him only staring her for a while until suddenly, the Alpha noticed it and blew it cover. He knew he couldn’t hide this for long. Sooner or later, he must tell her about his deep feeling.
“I wish I can handle this…” he thought.
Before he could continue his thought, a dark sight came before him. The blue wolf quickly glanced behind to see the new member, Zen, was walking forward, following him and Aleu from distance. Ever since the black wolf showed to them his amazing skills, everyone including Aleu thought that he could be useful to the pack. Unless their envies, Raka couldn’t believe him completely after what he had done before. He proved he might be dangerous.
Slowly, the unfriendly black wolf passed forward Raka, going ahead to follow Aleu who had already made her way to the caves. Walking among the ground below, he seemed made no sound of his steps. Even he was looked silent, the blue beta noticed Zen always paid attention to Aleu. Every time she headed, there was always his eyes who watching her. And for that, Raka began disturbed by his behavior. Perhaps, he thought Zen also liked her.
“Hey, you!” Raka started, just like yelling to the black wolf, “What are you looking at?”
Zen stopped suddenly. Raka soon halted his way to Aleu, standing behind Zen closely. For a minute, the black wolf was saying nothing, except his breath which looked like breaking the silence around.
“Blue eyes…” he finally spook out, giving Raka the answer, “I was looking her blue eyes…”
“What?” Raka seemed angry, “Remember, you’re just new in here! You still have many tasks to do. You don’t have time to stalk around, looking Aleu like that…”
“Why?” Zen asked, turning around to face Raka.
“Why? It’s…” Raka relied quickly, but soon halted to keep his secret safely, “It’s just…”
The blue wolf suddenly fell quiet. Usually, he could answer many things, but this time, he just couldn’t do it. He couldn’t find reasonable answer. He just couldn’t burst away with his feelings to Aleu. It would make him stupid in front of her.
“What are you two doing here?” Aleu suddenly came from behind, breaking their conversation, “Is there something problem?”
“No, nothing at all, Aleu…” Raka smiled hesitantly, “We just need a time to get along together.”
“Well, that’s a good start…” Aleu replied, moving closer to them, “I don’t want you two fight anymore…”
Zen only gave a look over Aleu, then turning around to continue his way. His steps kept moving until suddenly, he sniffed something strange in air. Something suspicious and danger. From his instinct, he knew someone unknown was moving closer to them, yet both of Raka and Aleu didn’t realize that. The intruder could cover its present perfectly.
“Someone is coming... Be careful…” Zen started, making Aleu and Raka startled.
Both of them soon took siege position. At first, they thought Zen had a false alarm, but Raka then sniffed something strange too in the air. The evil smell that could frighten someone unprepared easily. Slowly, the intruder showed its present. The male white wolf with diamond-shape patched at his forehead slowly walked, stopping himself in front of Zen. The black wolf then gave a surprise look in his eyes.
“Hello, brother…” the white wolf started, greeting Zen, “Long time no see…”
“Zin…” Zen replied, surprised to see his own brother in this place.
“I don’t have time to explain much, but…” Zin started, gazing his brother, “I come here to invite you to join us…”
“Us?” Zen asked confusingly.
“Yes, my brother…” Zin replied, grinning evilly, “Together, we will reach our destiny once again… by eliminating the last obstacle to gain it…”
“What is it?” Raka gave a look to Zin, “You talk nonsense…”
“Nonsense?” Zin laughed, glancing to Aleu, “She is daughter of Balto, isn’t she? Then, she’s my enemy…”
“What?” Aleu backed up quickly, “Why I’m your enemy? We haven’t met before.”
“My mission now is to eliminate the son of Aniu…” Zin replied, giving a scary look to her.
“You mean…” Aleu asked unbelievingly, making the white wolf grinned once more.
“Brother, I need your help now…” Zin turned to Zen, “Don’t you want to be with your brother again?”
“Zin…” Zen replied hesitantly.
“No way!” Raka suddenly cut off the conversation, “I won’t let you do that. Besides, he already joined us, right Zen?”
Zen just stood silent there. He didn’t find a suitable answer, yet he lost his own mind because Zin. It seemed both of them had very close relationship than they could imagine. Meanwhile, Aleu began gritting her teeth, moving forward to the white wolf.
“What have you done to my father!” Aleu shouted madly, “I won’t forgive you if you dare to hurt him!”
“Well, I almost got him…” Zin replied, making the brown Alpha lunged to him yet he could avoid it easily, “Don’t be so rush… He’s still alive and safe because he had his own guardian to protect him…”
“You!” Aleu gritted her teeth, but felt relieved after knowing the good news, “I won’t let you do that! And I won’t let my member join you!”
“We’ll see it soon…” Zin grinned evilly, turning back to leave that place, “Brother, I will wait you tomorrow right here. Be sure to come…”
“Leave now!” Raka suddenly lunged at Zin.
Before Raka could touched him, the white wolf had already escaped from them, leaving only his trails and smells. He disappeared quickly than he thought. For a while, the three of them just stayed there without doing anything. Then suddenly, Zen began to move himself out from there.
“Let’s go back…” he started, leaving both of Aleu and Raka.
“Wait!” Aleu replied, making Zen halted his steps, “You won’t join with him, right?”
“I don’t know…” Zen replied calmly, continuing his way.
The black wolf only said those words before leaving. In other hands, Aleu was furious and worry at the same time. She couldn’t believe that stranger said those things to her, moreover he wanted to invite his new member. Now, all she could do was hoping that her father was alright.
“Aleu…” Raka nudged her from her imagination, “Let’s go back. We’ll discuss this thing at the pack…”
“Yeah…” Aleu sighed, following Raka back to the
