Old Memories Return Part Five

The taxi pulls up to the police station. It had started to rain again, people leaving the station hurriedly ran to their cars. Parker opens the door to the taxi and climbs out, Jenny on the other side gets out her umbrella. Parker reaches into his pocket and pulls out his wallet. Leaning over to the window he hands the money over the cab driver, who accepts it. As the cab pulls away Balto and Jenna excitedly wait at Parkers side. Parker walks to the front entrance of the police station and holds the door open for Jenny. He watches as Jenny walks in followed by Balto and Jenna. The door swings closed with rusty screech. The female officer at the front desk asks “How may I help you Sir?” Parker replies “I am here to see my client Ben Leclair”

“Oh, Mr. Jones I didn’t recognize you. Please head on back, a guard will let you in to see him.”

Parker thanks the officer and walks down the hallway to her left heading for the cells. Balto says “I wonder why our son ended up in jail?” Jenna replies “I dunno, Balto but we will learn that so enough.” As they reach the door leading to the cells Parker talks with the guard on duty. After they are scanned for weapons or anything metal they are allowed through. Ben is laying on the cot in the cell he looks up to see Parker and an unknown lady standing next to him.

“What’s up Parker?”

Just as Parker is about to respond a strange looking dog appears at Ben’s side. He is the same red and cream color as Jenna but has reddish brown eyes. Ben looks down at his side and rubs his eyes in disbelief saying, “Hey Parker, are you seeing this? How did this dog get in here?”

Parker looks at the dog at Ben’s side saying, “Yes, I see him Ben.”
Kodi looks up at Parker saying “Hi, my name is Kodi. What’s yours?”
Parker replies, “My name is Parker and this is Jenny.” He gestures to Jenny who is standing next to him just as stunned as he is. Kodi looks from Parker to his parents who are standing to their respective humans. He says, “Mom…Dad is this for real?” Balto nods and says, “Yes Kodi I am really here. It is good to see you again.” Jenna nods in agreement tears start to form in her eyes. Kodi says, “Mom please don’t cry I am here.” He looks around saying, “Wherever here is?”

He looks up and sees Ben looking down at him. Ben says, “Ok, I know I just didn’t hear that dog talk.” Parker says, “Ben, I know this isn’t going to make much sense but you and that dog are one and the same.”

Ben looks at Parker and rolls his eyes saying, “Come one Jones. Don’t go crazy on me now.” He looks down at Parkers side and sees Balto standing there. Turning to look at Jenny, he sees Jenna standing there looking directly at him.

Ben places his hands on his head saying, “I must be going crazy because for some strange reason I actually believe you.”

Kodi hops onto the bed next to Ben and rests his head on his leg. Ben recoils from the contact saying, “I just felt that dog ghost or whatever it is touch me.” Parker replies, “Well that’s the thing. Only you can see, hear or touch them.” Kodi smiles looking at Ben and says, “I won’t hurt you I promise.” Ben reaches out his right hand and pats Kodi on the head who in turn licks it.

Ben smiles faintly then looks around saying, “This is too much.” Parker and Jenny nod in agreement. Ben looks at them saying, “So other than trying to show me I have a ghost dog, what is the real reason you are here?” Parker replies, “Well, last night I received a phone call. It was from the chief of police here and he told me he had another teen in his custody who had admitted that he was the person who really stole those things from the store. He said you were off the hook.”

Kodi’s tail starts to wag and Ben looks at him stunned saying, “Really I can go?” Parker nods. Parker walks to the guard handing him a folded piece of paper. The guard looks at it then at Ben then says, “Well orders are orders.” He takes the ring of keys off of his belt and walks to Ben’s cell unlocking it. Ben walks out and says, “The sweet taste of freedom.” Parker replies, “There are a couple of conditions to your release. First off is that the Chief never hopes to see you in here again and the Second being that your are released into my care for a couple of days just to make sure you behave yourself.” Ben nods.

Parker hails a cab and they climb in. As the cab pulls away from the station Ben looks back at a girl slowly emerging from the mist and exhaust of the car. He frowns wondering if the girl was following them. He shrugs his shoulders then turns back looking at Parker his hand resting on the soft fur of Kodi’s back. The swaying of the cab causes Ben to fall asleep. He leans against Jenny who blushes. Parker notices her blushing and he looks away out the window to the blurry outlines of buildings as they speed by. Balto says, "So now what?" Parker says quietly, "Well I dunno I am still trying to figure this stuff out in my head and I am having a hard time trying to figure it out." Jenna looks at him and says, "We will have to find Aleu if she was reincarnated." Jenny looks at her saying, "How do we know if she is even in New York. She could be anyone around the world." Parker nods in agreement. "Well I am sure we will figure something out", He says. Jenny wraps her arm around Ben smiling at Kodi sleeping on the floor. The cab turns the corner and speeds down the road.
