In Cleveland, the old dog stands behind the glass.
Where children smile, and people pass.
But I stand and stare, I know his "tail",
His team and musher, they would not fail,
To race against the bitter chill, with medicine to stop that which killed
.

Glass eyes and a coat that's growing old,
The black husky dog, once so bright and bold,
Now stands on display, in front of all who come,
To see the dog who was second to none,
On that cold day in 1925, where so many people may have died.

600 miles of ice and snow, the many brave dogs they had to go,
With a 20 pound crate of medicine, the blizzard would not let them win.
With Balto's team second to last, the final leg soon came to pass,
53 miles 'till the race was done, the blizzard gone the dogs had won,
Heroes now they barked and yelped, happy that they all had helped.

Now in New York the bronze statue, a solid, strong, lasting tribute,
To Balto and the other teams, who risked their lives against wind and streams.
The engraved plaque tells their "tail", I smile again, and then exhale,
I take a picture, then another, for two, and say," Thank you Balto,
I would have been lost without you!"
