                  Nothing But A Nightmare

                               Preface

Whatever happened, my head was not clear and I could not tell if I was dieing. When the moonlight flicked off the eyes of a snarling wolf it made my heart skip a beat... It stepped closer, surely it would have to attack, it was a killer. It  skimmed over my head, as it leaped to the other side, trying to catch a weak spot in me. I yelped, and that betrayed my fear. The wolf stoped looking at me and twisted it's neck back, toawrds light clustering down the hill. It stiffened, and took a pace back, a shadow erupted from the hill, and shouting filled the air. Before I knew it the wolf wa gone, and I was left with the man, are eyes locked togather.

-                                Chapter One                                               -

   The sun peeked over the horizon, my pelt feeling hotter then ever. The light danced on the snow, finding a way to get to me, and pecked at my fur.

 I sighed, and leaned my head up so I could feel the breeze ready to penatrate my body. Even though the snow drizled around me, the sun was glowing a big red fireball, and I was looking foreward to a hot day. 

 My paws mushed the snow in dainty gatherings. I traveled towrads my master's house. Soon I could see a dim outline of our cottage, I smiled and ran faster. Rosie and Jamie were playing outside. Each had a raggdy peice of frabic in there hands, swatting it at each other I guess in a game. Rosie picked up a bucket and pulled out a larg shirlt with brass buttons. She sighed and rubbed her fabric against the shirt. I trotted up and layed my head gently on her knee, she noticed and repliedwith a gentle rub on my ear. May looked up from her washing, and petted me on the back. I barked happily, and sat down in-between them.

  White snow against red hot sun was not a good combition. It pushed off the snow and landed diretcly in my eyes. I yelped and covered my paws of my eyes. Rosie giggled and stroked me on the ear. " Silly dog." She muttered. May joined in. " Don't be a wimp Jenna, a little sunlight wont damage your eyes...Or do you not like the hot flames of the sun?"  I growled at the word sun. It felt like I wa being torn apart by the flames. It's to hot. I said to my self. I licked rosie's cheeck and hurried inside.

 " No sharrie! It's no problem! She can coem here tommorow. What? I- Oh, no, I got that all covered. Love you too, Jenna will be happy to meet Samantha again...Love you, bye."

 My ears flared up at the name of my sister. She would be comeing here tommorow...What would her reaction be to me? I shrugged that though away and hurried to meet another of my master's near the kitchen. I wagged my tail as I stared at my master. She had her back to me, faceing toards a cluster of dirty clothes. As she heard my approch she turned around, nearly knocking down her clothes in the hurry. She tookmy paw, and stroaked my cheeck. " Sam's comeing! She's staying with us intill her owner's come back from vaction in florida!" My tail sweeping knocked over a vase on a terra-cotta table. " JENNA! That was my mothers!" She raced toawrds it like a crazed kid and smacked my across the head. I whimpred and fled to a corner, wrapping my bushy tail across my nose as I circled into a ball.

  It wasn't long intill she angrly stompped over to me, slamming me hard in the rib-cage. Geez! All I did was knock down a stupid vase...Don't you have anything else from your mom?

 When I looked up, I could see her angry face looming over me. My forehead creased with worry....Don't hurt me! I thought. I`ve had enough!

 Just as she raised her hand to strike me, rosie came bustleing throygh the door. At first Rosie looked at mom with shock, then realized what she was doing and rushed over to me. " Mother! Why are you hurting Jenna! What did she?-" " What did she do?" Her mother answered. " She knocked down the vase I had, one of the few things I had left of my mother!" Rosie's face was red, and when I cocked my head I could see tear's rimming her eyes. " Why would you hurt her? She is one of few things that make me happy in my life!" Rosie took me by my bandana, chargeing to her room. Once we were in, she slammed the door shut and locked it. She walked to the window and pulled up the widow's cover. " May, sorry, but I`m gonna be locked in my room for a while...I`ll meet you tommorow, thanks for your help." She smiled and waved at may, as may dissapered into the distance.

 She plodded onto her bed and called me over. I leaped on the bed and sat next to her. " Mother..uggh! She can be so mean at times...Oh, please forgive her Jenna! She is just mad beacuse you broke a thing that was VERY important to her." I sighed and licked roseies hand. "So you do forgive her?!" " I nodded. " Oh, that's great!" She raced to her door, and shouted out. " Mother, Jenna forgive's you!" " Whatever..." Came the reply. In the background I heard crackling glass and sniffles from a sad face.

 I slumped down to the rug and sighed. The only thing good that was happening to me and rosie was that Sam was comeing tommorow. I sighed again and smiled. Only a day away...I thought as my eyelids cracked into a dream. 

 -                     Chapter 2                                                 -   

                I revv of an engine awoke me. I padded towards the window, pushing my face aginst the window sill. The air was foggy but I could make out 3 dim figures standing out-side.

  I raced out rosies door,through the hallway,past the liveing room, and through the screendoor. I yelped happily as my eye's locked on locked Sam's figure. "Jenna!" She barked and raced over. She nuzzeld me and I licked her forehead. We pulled apart, and we looked at eachother, finnaly, she was here.

...But I could'nt help but notice a trace of unhappyness on her face....
