the dog you are one day going to become, you came to me a desperate puppy, scared and angry, but you have grown, and I know you are meant to do great things, I see you now, and I couldn't be more proud of you of if you were my own son"

By this time I was holding my breath as I saw a tear escape Issac's eyes.

"I love you Sage"   I went to the dog and I nuzzled him tightly.

"I love you too" I said gethering my shaky voice. "Issac would you like to know something?"

I heard his voice crack as more tears escaped. "What?"

"I couldn't have a better Father or friend than you"

Issac hled me tighter once more and for a moment we stayed that way. Then Issac cleared his throat.

"The sun is setting you mutt" Issac said trying to cover his tears from seconds before.

"You better be getting to your princess"  He smiled. I looked at him and grinned as I looked beyond the hills and then back at him.

"Thank you Issac"  I said. He smiled quietly.

"Your welcome my boy, now go" He said with a smile. "Get out of here"  He laughed.

I took off in a run calling back to Issac as he called to me. It was one of the happiest nights in my life.

              ********************

I sniffed the fragile flower carefully, it was sweet and delicate. I gently pulled it off the bush with my teeth. Flowers are a rare thing in the desert, especaily pretty ones, but when one knows where to look its not an impossible task.

I walked the same battered path I had now taken may times and smiled as I came to the same hill where she always awaited me. She sat there so still, it was almost as if she were not real, and in my world she almost wasn't because she was too good to be true. The light entering my dark life, the one thing that had all my affection and my shy puppy manners, my slowly changing heart, and all my love from now and forever, all that was summed up with just one look in her eyes.

I sighed wandering how I had even met such a girl. I walked up to her quietly, letting the flowed enter her sight first. She smiled when she saw it, quite surprised. I held a grin back so I wouldn't drop it, every time I saw her smile was like seeing a sunrise for the first time, bright a beautiful.

"O Sage, its beautiful" She said sniffing it.

I shrugged, "A beautiful flower for a beautiful girl"  She looked up at me and for a moment she was expresionless, till she half smiled looking into my eyes, then she glanced back over the sandy mountains. I layed the flower carefully on the ground and looked up toward the stars with her.

"Sure is a whole lot of them out tonight" I said aloud, not really meaning too.

"Yea, aren't they beautiful" Sam smiled. By this time I was just watching her, she glanced at me annd looked expectantly.

"I used to watch the stars every night" I said quickly, wandering what I should do, I felt my heart beating too quickly, and I feared she could hear it too, though her breathing remaind even.

   "Used too?"  She asked.

"Yea, well it was when I was little, me and my Dad"  I allowed my voice to trail off.

She came to my side, and I felt her warm fur next to mine, she smiled.

  "Go on" She said gently.

I looked at her and for the first time since long ago, I spoke about my life.

"My Dad used to take me out to front of our house, we lived on a lot of land, and it would be just me and him watching the stars" I smiled.

"That sounds wonderful" She said dreamily. "What happened?"

"Um" I hesitated "He was killed, a long time ago"

"I'm sorry"  She said looking up at me.

"O don't be" I stumbled for words "I mean, I miss him alot" I said getting up and walking around. "I miss my family, but if I hadn't have moved then, then, I would have never have met you"  Some how those words just slipped out, Sam looked at me her eyes were gentle.

She came to me and looked at me. I allowed myself to get closer leaning in so close I felt her chest rise and fall with each breath, I realized what was happening and I started to back away.

"Its ok" She said quietly then she nuzzled me and then I nuzzled back allowing myself to fall for the first time.

             ******************

We stayed together the entire night. We layed close together, and I put my paws around her. The last remains of the dark night were almost gone, and dawn was almost come.

I sighed rubbing her fur ever so gently.

"I don't think I've ever been this happy" I said, she turned placing her paws around my neck, she smiled agian so big and so bright, looking like I had never seen her before, and then I knew she would never stop getting more beutiful everyday.

"Me too" She said, the flower I had given her the night before behind her ear.

I hugged her tighter as we settled back down looking over everything below us and watching the changing sky.

"My Human is probably back by now, he was supposed to come in last night" She said with a deep satisfied sigh.

"Why do you love the humans so much" I asked curiosly.

"Why" She said surprised. "Daniel gave me a home, the guys are my family, we take care of eachother" She explained.

"Right until he decides he can't take care of you anymore" I said.

"Sage, Daniel would never do anything like that."

"How do you know?'' I asked gently.

"Because, he loves me and I love him"

she must have saw I didn't look convinced.

"You don't  trust easy do you?" She asked.

"I use too" I said simply.

   "What happened?"

"I saw what men can do."

Sam looked at me but before she could answer, a low flying plane came from nowhere, it flew over us, sending sand everywhere.

"What was that?" I asked quickly getting to my feet for both me and Sam had tried to duck away.

"O no, its an enemy plane" She said the fear showing in her eyes for the first time.

A loud alram sounded and the American base below became full alive. Men ran everywhere as they prepared for a battle. And then the bombs began to fall.

"They are attacking thier own town" I said with horrow, for I knew Issac there alone.

"Its becuse they finally found out our location" Sam said.

"I have to get back to the alley" I said beginning to go.

   "Sage no wait" Sam begged.

"Sam get to the base and find your person" I commanded, only wishing for her and Issac's safety.

'Go now" I barked, she glanced at me agian pleadingly and then did as I said.

I ran with all my might back to town, bombs were exploding everywhere, and people ran frantically. That day I saw many die in front of my own eyes and there was nothing I could do to stop it, I felt helpless.

I finanlly made it to the Alley and saw Issac just as he was coming out.

"Issac" I said running to him "Are you alright?"

"Yes what about  you?"  He asked.

"Fine, we have to get out of here, and get to the other side of the hills" I said reffering to the place me and Sam always met.

"Alright, what about your girl?" Issac asked as we began to run.

  "Shes safe" I assured him.

we ducked by as bulding as the planes flew low, shooting at every one and everything that moved. Then a low pitiful cry sounded from the inside.

"Did you hear that?" I asked as the American troops passed trying to help the women and children as thier own people shot at them and the Americans.

 "Yes"

  "It was coming from inside."

Issac followed me as I went through the cracked door, at first we didn't  see anything, but then a small bundle at the end of the room caught our attention when it cried aloud agian. I walked to it quickly, for there was no time to waste, shots and bombs were still going on oustised and people were running to anywhere safe and out of sight.

    "What is it?" Issac asked.

"Its a baby" I said astounded.

"Baby" Issac looked over my shoulder at the small  little pesron that looked at us curiosly from its swollen teary eyes.

"Well we can't leave him" Issac said speakling my thoughts. I picked up the blanket that the little kid was in and held it tightly in my mouth as we went out into the streets agian. We tried to walk carefully, but the crowd was thick and the baby cried all the more.

Though just as the street had been crowded but a moment ago, suddenly the people vanished. Issac who had been making a path for me and the child yelled at me from a few yards away but it was so loud I couldn't tell what he was saying. Then I heared the engine. A plane was coming right at me and there was no time for anything, I heard someone call my name, and it wasn't Issac but it was too late. I laid myself over the crying baby covering him with my body as the plane fired.

Suddenly I felt cold, and my side and shoulders acked. Issac ran to me yelling at me, but my hearing were about to go too, I heard the baby crying and I saw from my fading eyes another plane aproaching. Issac took the baby and drug him away and came back for me, but I was not as light as a new born. Issac was yelling I
