The Tale Of Aniu

Part 1

I am Aniu, the white wolf. My whole life has been a mystery and full of secrets, but my biggest secret was how I came about.

It was the middle of the night, and I was asleep next to all my siblings, there were four of us all together. I remember being asleep when they came for us, my mother was wrapped around us and a howl woke me up. I looked around the den and only saw darkness, but then there was another howl and 3 huge black wolves burst into our den.

Mother was the first to react and she stood over us growling at the wolves, "Please, don't do this Reyo!" Mother said to the biggest wolf, he was all black and had dark brown eyes. "I'm sorry sister....but I have to do whats good for the pack" Reyo said softly. I was very confused, I knew Reyo was part of my family but I wondered why he would run into our den and growl at Mother.

"Reyo please! Your my brother! You can't do this!" Mother shouted, " Those pups smell of our rival packs blood, Take her away" Reyo said, the other two wolves grabbed Mother by her pure white pelt and dragged her away from us. The two wolves held her back as Mother cried, "Please don't!" Mother shouted from behind the two wolves. I whimpered because I thought they were hurting Mother. My siblings snuggled close to me, Reyo walked over to us.

I growled at him, "I'm sorry little ones" Reyo said to us, he picked up my brother Santo by the neck and shook him until he stopped moving and through his little body on the ground. I whimpered even more once I saw what Reyo did to Santo, Reyo picked up my other brother Ayr and shook him until he stopped moving, and tossed his little body to the floor. Mother began to cry out "Please! Reyo, Stop!" Mother said.

Then Reyo picked up my last sibling, which was my sister Vida, and he shook her until she stopped moving. Reyo then looked at me, I was so afriad that I began to shake. Mother bit one of the wolves and she came running to me, she pushed Reyo out of the way. Mother grabbed me by the scruff and ran off into the woods. I heard Reyo howl off into the distance and then I heard the sound of wolves running behind us, "Stop her!" I heard a wolf yell.

Mother stopped and looked around, she saw a river and quickly jumped in, I was afriad of all the water so I whimpred. Mother swam swiftly across the river, Soon the sounds of wolves coming got quite and I no longer heard then chasing us. She sat me down on the ground and layed next to me panting. "It's ok Aniu" She told me, I felt safe. Mother walked over to river and took a drink, she padded back over to me.

Mother laid next to me and she began to cry, "We are going to really miss Santo, Vida and Ayr" Mother said, I whimpred as I thought of my siblings. I nuzzled into my Mothers belly and fell asleep.

2 months later...

I was very happy living with Mother in our new den and away from Reyo, I still had nightmares about him killing my sibling, but Mother was always there to make me feel better. One morning I woke up early to see snow falling outside of our den, I hurried to the opening and the ground had a thin layer of snow on it, I yipped for Mother to come out of the den. "What is it Aniu?" Mother asked yawning, "Snow! Snow!" I yipped to her.

Mother walked out of the den and looked up at the sky, "It's beautiful" She said, I looked at her a nodded. "Can I play outside for a little bit?" I asked Mother, "Yes, but don't go past the meadow" She replied. I nodded and was off running in the woods, I loved to run, I thought I was free when I did. I played with the snow as I ran and I fell and rolled in it. When I looked up I saw that the meadow was only a few feet away.

I was so curious that I walked into the snowy meadow, it was pretty empty. I thought of Mother's warnings, but what could be on the other side of the meadow that Mother didn't want me to see? I began to walk slowly across the meadow until I was on the other side. There was a huge slope and I ran up it, and I looked off into the distance and the sight shocked me.

I looked at what was at the bottom of the slope, It was a bunch of giant tall rocks(buildings), and there were these things running around on two legs. I watched them closley, that made weird sounds and ran with these wolves on ropes....but they were smaller then wolves and made barking noises. I watched them all, I began to slowly sneak down the hill getting closer to these giant stones and the weird two leg animals.

Once I got to the bottom, it was pretty loud here, I snuck around in alleys looking at all the two leg animals. They didn't seem to notice me, until I heard a noise behind me. I quickly turned around to see a dark brown wolf thing looking at me, "Who are you?" It asked me, "A-Aniu" I said to it. The wolf thing looked at me with a weird expression, "Are you a wolf?" It said. "Yes, what are you?" I asked. "I'm a dog silly" It said. The brown dog began to circle me then he sat down in front of me, "My names Matao, nice to meet you Aniu" He said.

"I-I don't think I should be here....I have to go home" I said and ran off, I ran back up the slope but when I looked down the slope and Matao was following me. "Stop following me!" I shouted at him but he just kept running to me, I crouched down and growled at him, he did the same. "Why are you in such a hurry?" Matao said growling, "Becasue...." I replied. Matao stopped growling, "But why" He asked, "Because I'm not supposed to be here, I have to go home" I said.

"Come on....let's play game, you can go home later" Baltan said, I gave a deep sigh, "Ok, but I can't play for too long" I said. Matao barked and tackled me into the dirt, I laughed and tackled him. Before we both knew it was dark and I stopped playing. "Oh no, I have to go....bye Matao!" I said before running off into the woods, "Where's the meadow?" I said to myself.

It was so dark, and I couldn't find the meadow or my way home, "Mom! Mom!" I said, before I knew it tears were running down my cheeks. "Mother!" I yelped between sobs. The night seemed to get even darker, and there were starnge and scary noises around me. I cried out evn louder "MOTHER!" I yelped, then something grabbed my scruff and I thrashed around screaming "Mom help me! somethings got me!" I whimpred. Its teeth had a tight hold on me, I thrashed even more.

I turned my head and looked up at the thing that was holding me, it was Mother.....she put me down, "Aniu! It's ok...it's just me" She said her voice so soft, I nuzzled her but then she became furious. "Where were you! I was so worried!" She said. "I-I was playing with this d-dog and-" I said, "You were playing with a dog! did you cross the meadow!" She yelled. My tail fell between my legs, "yes...." I replied. Mother seemed to calm down a bit, she siged heavily, "It's ok, but don't you ever do that again, do you understand Aniu?" She asked.

I nodded a yes, Mother picked me up in her strong jaws by my scruff, I was pretty big now but she was still able to  pick me up. She paded back to our home not knowing the danger we were about to face.....
