leading up than just a whole. I could here the door as it opened my Mother as she growled, I reached the surface almost, I heard mom Growling and yelping. I screamed for her, I tried to go back, but I heard one last yell, and the tunnel collapsed. I shook the dirt from me and realized, she was gone.

Everything in me told me to give up, fall in that very spot and let the exhauastion overtake me, but then Mom's voice rang in my ears "Your more and more like him everyday"  and I knew Dad would keep going. So I gathered my strength and walked out of the dark shadows, thats when I felt it for the first time. First I ducked away for the brightness was too much, but I looked agian and felt the warmth. I looked into it long and hard, for it was my first sun rise.

Not many people were out, and for that I was thankful. I knew I wanted to be as far as my blistered paws would take me. I walked for hours, I stayed hidden. Men in camoflaged uniforms, with guns and big boots kept passing by. They weren't like the men who had taken me from my home, quiet the oppostie actually, but all I knew is they had guns, and for that reason they became my enenmies. That was the day I made up my mind that I would never trust a human. Never surpass to the cushoin home life most dogs lived everyday. Taking joy in obeying a man's every wish, watching over a family while they slept oblivious in thier beds, no that would never be me, I would never be that domesticated animal whose freedom was gone and whose love would eventually be betrayed for money of desire. I would never trust another Man.

I crawled the first abandoned door I saw. It seemed to have been left some time ago except for a few flour sacks that lay in te corner by the window where the light shown through. This is where I laid my tired head. I shook the dust from me and coughed as it gathered in the air. The world around me was a very sandy place, but I had known nothing different. I got as close to the window and its light as I could, for I never wanted to see the darkness agian as long as I lived.

I closed my eye restlessly and suddenly felt the utter loneliness. I had no family, I was the last of my breed, the last of the past that I held on to. This was my life now. I fell asleep tiredly my mind was totally blank and too my thankfullness my broken heart did not haunt my sleep. Tomorrow was a new day, and I was ready to take it one step at a time.
