"For the last time Wolfkit, get down here!" Yowled Icepool. Wolfkit just looked at her mother from the lowest branch of the tree. "Why?" She asked. "I like it up here!"

"I don't care!" Spat Icepool, "You're coming down here right now!"

Wolfkit hesitated then climbed out of the tree. She was born with unusually sharp claws, perfect for clinging to bark.

"Now," Said Icepool when she had climbed down. "Go and fetch Graykit from the river, I don't want her falling in again..."

Wolfheart let out a purr of amusement and padded off through the bushs of RiverClan Territory and out into the opening of the river. There sat her sister, Graykit, staring into the pond, as if she couldn't wait to turn six moons so that she could finally catch a big juicy fish.

"Hey Graykit!" Called Wolfkit. "Mama wan't us to go back to camp."

Graykit turned around and looked at her. "But I...." "I know you want to hunt, but we can't break the Warrior Code.... Besides, I think that we will be made apprentices when we get back! Mama says that something speacial could be waiting!" Graykit looked at her doubtfully, "Really?" She asked. "Yeah! C'mon!"

They ran back through the thick bushes and headed on to their home in the RiverClan camp.

"There you are!" Hissed their mother, Icepool. They were just in time to hear the RiverClan leader, Leopardstar yowl out from the Highrock.

Wolfkit and Graykit gave an excited glace, as the raced over to the Highrock and took a seat.

"Wolfkit, Graykit," Began Leopardstar. "Come here."

Wolfkit and Graykit's eyes grew big with excitment, as Leopardstar said the words of apprenticeship. "Wolfkit, you will now be known as Wolfpaw, your mentor will be Thinpelt."

Wolfpaw let a grin swipe over her face, and it seemed to lock there.

"Graykit, you will now be known as Graypaw, and your mentor will be Scratchedear."

Graypaw and Wolfpaw looked around as the Clan chanted their new names: "Wolfpaw! Graypaw! Wolfpaw! Graypaw!"

That night their vigil seemed long and cold, and without being able to talk, it was even worse. But when the sun slowly sli up past the moon Wolfpaw alowed a long yawn rise from her throught, followed by Graypaw.

As they emerged, they met the Medicine Cat, Redleaf's apprentice, Badgerpaw coming out of the Apprentice den. He was injured by a badger when only a kit, and had no choice but to become the apprentice of Redleaf, even though he clearly didn't enjoy it.

He gave a nod to them and then padded on as they entered the den and plopped theirsleves down on a warm moss-lined nest. It wasn't long before they were asleep and motionless.

"Now, attack me!" Said Thinpelt. It had been the second day of training for Wolfpaw, and she was indeed enjoying it. "Ok!" She said. She pounced, and even though Thinpelt dodged it, Wolfpaw had left a good sized scratch on his ear.

"Well done," He said rubbing his ear with his paw. "we better get back to camp."

"Get back to camp? Why?" Asked Wolfpaw curiously. "Can I go to the river first?" She asked before Thinpelt could answer her first question. The river had always been her favorite spot, and sometimes she could find her sister, Graypaw there too.

"Well alright..." Said Thinpelt giving in. "But be back before Mealtime."

As she padded into the clearing of the river, she was surprised not to find her sister there. She simply walked up to the river, and swiftly pulled out a fish. She was planning to just hunt for a while for the Clan.... But something different happened...

"Hi!" Came a cheerful voice from on the other side of the river. Wolfpaw's head shot up. "Wha-? Who was that?"

There was a giggle, then Wolfpaw caught the eye of a light colored She-cat. "I'm Hazelpaw." She said. "You?"

Wolfpaw hesitated. This cat was too far away to get her scent, and she could be a loner if she was an apprentice, she would have to keep watch. "Wolfpaw." She responded. "Where do you come from?" "ThunderClan." Said Hazelpaw proudly.

"Ah," Said Wolfpaw. "So why are you so close to RiverClan territory?" Wolfpaw was clearly handing out a challenge, but it would be hard knowing this apprentice was on the other side. "Relax!" She spat. "I'm only out hunting...."

She was obviously no threat, so Wolfpaw lt off her guard.

"Well, I better go..." Said Wolfpaw. "Ok, well, bye!" Called Hazelpaw.

The next night the gathering party was set up. To Wolfpaw's surprise-She was in it! It was Wolfpaw, Scratchedear, thinpelt, and the Clan deputy, Bloodstep.

When they arrived, Wolfpaw spotted Hazelpaw, sitting alone in the clearing, shuffleing her paws sadly.

Wolfpaw couldn't resist. She padded up to Hazelpaw. "Hazelpaw?" She asked shyly. Hazelpaw spun around and faced her. "Wolfpaw!" She yelled cheerfully. "Hi!"

By the end of the gathering, they had both made tremendous friends of each other, and had hesitated to leave each others side when their Clan's broke up.

Before Wolfpaw knew it, she was a Warrior, out meeting Hazelpaw at the other side of the river every day secretly.

"Hey!" called Wolfheart one day. "Hi Wolfpaw!" Purred Hazelpaw with delight. "Ah, it's Wolfheart now." She purred back. "And I'm Hazelheart now too!"

The two purred each others delights, andWolfheart told about how Graypaw had now been Turned into Grayheart, and before they knew it, it was sunhigh.

Every time Wolfheart had to bring back a fish from the river for an excuse. And she felt uncomfortable slipping off every morning.

But one day, she had gotten carried away fishing, and had forgotten to lick the scent of ThunderClan from her pelt, and she then met Leopardstar at the entrance.

"I smelled you from a mile a way..." She murmurred. "So tell me Wolfheart, why have you been talking to this ThunderClan warrior, Hazelheart?"

Wolfheart's stomach jumped out of her and ran away. Leopardstar knew, and for sure, Wolfheart could say her farewell's to RiverClan.
