Balto (The Revelation)
Chapter 1 – The Great Mystery
“There he is…There he lives…” a white wolf thought from the peak.
A female white wolf was standing firmly at there, looking to the busy town where many people were scattering like sands from top. Her beautiful blue eyes still gazed it, wondering what she would do. Her pretty white furs were blown away by wind gently. From what she looked like, the color of snow was the same as her whole body.
“Reina…” someone called her from behind, “Are you ready? We must go quickly today.”
“Yes, I know that…” she replied, “It seems the day is getting darker.”
Reina, the white wolf, slowly watched the cloud at the sky. Even it was white, yet the sunset made around fell into darkness. She then made her steps, turning away from where she had been to a grey wolf which was standing in front of her now.
“So, are we going now?” she asked.
“Of course…” he replied, “We need to go faster…”
“Alright, then…” Reina began stepping forward, “Let’s go, Luka!”
Luka, the grey wolf, started to follow her. His black eyes seemed focused on something while his grey fur was blown away harshly by the cold wind. At that time, he just wished something on his mind.
“I hope we’re not late…” he thought.
The snow then blew away the image of two wolves, just the same as what happened at a small town called Nome. The blowing wind was so much harsh now; even the single sight couldn’t be made. Right now, a brown wolf tried hard get through to it. Although it wasn’t a storm, it was still an obstacle for him. Seeing was hard and difficult, so he sure must let his instinct guided or he would lose.
“Wow…It’s so hard to get to Jenna’s house today…” he thought.
The brown wolf, Balto, trotted over the narrow alley. With his yellow-black eyes, he scanned that dark path directly. He was sure enough that alley would lead him to Jenna’s house. Step by step, he padded toward until he found a bright light penetrated his eyes. It was Jenna’s house. The door was closed, but a light from lamp still could be seen.
“Jenna, can you hear me?” he whispered over the closed windows.
Hearing the whispering voice, a red and white husky appeared from behind the shutting glass. Her soft black eyes and beautiful smile on her face suddenly calmed Balto’s heart, along with her red bandanna over her neck. She then fell surprised to know that her lovely mate was standing in harsh weather outside of the house.
“Balto!?” she was quite startled, “What are you doing there? Quick, get to the inside!”
Without even taking a time to reply, Balto quickly entered that small wooden house through doggy door placed at bottom of door. In there, the cozy place had already warmed him a little. Even much stuff was screwed there, yet it was better than his house. After taking a little sightseeing, Jenna came from upstair.
“Balto, are you okay?” she asked worriedly, “Why you still come here? I thought you were at home…”
“I was…” he answered, “But, I just want to meet you. You know, only checking around if there was something happened…”
“I’m fine, Balto,” she smiled, “Thank you for worrying me, but you should know the one who have to be worried is you.”
“Me?” Balto seemed didn’t understand, “Why?”
“Because I have a house and you…” Jenna answered.
“I have a house, and someone to take care me either,” Balto interrupted.
“Balto…” Jenna smiled softly, nuzzling him lovingly, “I mean I have humans, but you don’t…”
“So, why is that?” Balto asked again, “I don’t have one, but I’m still fine as far I know.”
At this statement, Jenna felt she should give up to Balto. Even how much she explained, her mate still thought he didn’t have to be worried. What she meant to tell was someone who would always take care and protect like humans. She knew he had Boris, but even the Russian goose like his father, yet it wasn’t the same at all. It was so much different.
“Okay, Balto. You win…” Jenna started, “Now, what will you do right now?”
“I…I don’t know…” Balto answered hesitantly, “I guess I will back to home since you’re fine enough.”
“Home? In this weather?” Jenna watched how rough the wind was, hopping and landing to back of him, “I don’t think so…”
“Hey, Jenna!” Balto surprised, “What is this?”
“A little care from me…” Jenna smiled, “I won’t let you go back until I’m perfectly sure the weather outside is safe for you.”
“Huh? Safe for me?” Balto didn’t worry at all, “I think I can handle it. I’ve been in worse before when I fetched the antitoxin.”
“That’s 2 years ago…” Jenna interrupted.
“What’s different?” Balto asked.
With no way of continuing the conversation, Jenna then began laid her head down, pressing Balto’s head to go down. Slowly, his body started relaxing. His tight muscle seemed weakened under Jenna’s pressure. Balto, by the way, didn’t know how to escape from this, but since it enjoyed him a little, he let his mate laid down over his body. Soon, he fell asleep. He didn’t know exactly how long he flied in dream world, but what he knew was someone began calling his name.
“Balto…Balto, wake up…” Jenna nudged him, “It’s already night. The weather looks clear. You can go home now…”
“What? Oh, Jenna…” Balto yawned, “15 minutes more…”
“Balto…” Jenna chuckled, nudging hard, “Don’t be so childish!”
“Umm…Jenna…” Balto looked her, still yawning, “Why I can’t sleep here?”
“So that Boris will be angry to you…” Jenna continued.
“Boris…” Balto fell in surprise.
Balto suddenly got up from where he had been. He forgot completely about Boris, the Russian goose that had been taking care of him for many years. If he knew he was late, he would be very angry. Although he was in Jenna’s house, coming home late in middle night would be dangerous for him.
“Jenna, I must go home now…,” he said in hurry.
Jenna could only let her smile appeared. Without even looking back, her mate suddenly rushed to the outside, leaving only his footstep’s sound that disappeared in her ears. Knowing he already left, she then back to her bed and trying to get some rest. Meanwhile, Balto ran faster than he had done before. At the time, he wished Boris wouldn’t let his anger and worry conquered himself. While he kept thinking, suddenly, a black wolf smacked him hard from beside, blowing him away for a few feet.
“What is that?” he thought, groaning painfully.
Balto slowly got up. He shook his head, clearing his own vision. Even he must stand quickly, yet the pain was still there. Before he could gaze his attacker, another black wolf smacked him again, throwing him into nearby pile of trash, he only groaned in pain at there.
Slowly, one of those wolves move closer to him, making the steps under the silent night. He then stood up firmly before him. Right then, Balto could see clearly that black wolf. His eyes and furs were all black, just like the color of darkness. Together with sharp fangs, Balto knew he was unfriendly. He tried to get up, even the pain was still there. At his sight, he could see 7 black wolves surrounded him.
“ANIU MUST DIE!” one of the black wolves suddenly exclaimed, followed by everyone then.
Balto fell in confuse. Why they spook those words? While their
