Chapter Two
"LISTEN TO ME!!" Amber screamed at my unweilding
anvil head. "I know what your feeling, I felt it before too but
slow down and LISTEN TO ME!!" Her voice rose to a
screaming pitch again. Slowly the words made an impact
on me and I slowed down and stopped.
The main thing that made an imapact was she went
through this before, she had been a human??!!
"Whatd yo says?" I searched the woods with roving eyes.
Amber rolled hers.
"It's What did you say?" She corected me with a smirk on
her face.
"Yes, I know what your going to ask. I am a human but I'm
also part wolf. I went through the same kind of shock as
you."
"So I'm half wolf." I gulped.
"Yes." Amber nodded.
"A wolf." I turned away and felt tears welling in my eyes.
"But a beautiful wolf." Amber countered. I turned my back
to her.
"Lapu, go bring Istas that shread of mirror we found."
Lapu turned and went away into the forest.
While Lapu was gone I sat, and waited. I did nothing.
Nothing or no one could enduse me to play tennis or hunting
again. Now I was in both sides I felt like I had no home, I
was a hobo, homeless. I had no real place in society. I was
not of either race. I wan't a wolf , but I surely wasn't a human.
Could a human change into a wolf?! Could a human do this!
By this time Lapu had come back with the glass mirror
shard.
I looked in it, and saw my reflection. I had two creamy
ears with a gray ea and back but with another creamy part
on the underside of my tail. My eyes were a light hazel-nut
brown, like ahair ribbon sweet and crisp. Then when I was
done looking Amber took the glass and I turned away. I felt
so lost, so unloved and uncared for, like I needed a hug. I
sniffled.
"Are you alright?" Amber with her soft eyes asked.
"No." I sniffled again and looked away.
"What is it?" Amber smiled confortingly.
"I don't know" I whispered."Now I know the truth I feel like I
don't belong any where."
"I felt that way at first," Amber admitted. "But you'll get
over it. Now lets have some fun."
I went off to join Amber my thoughts still muddled.
Chapter Three
I found all wolf life wan’t playing quickly. My first hunt was
great. I loved the excitement of running flat out, against the
wide blue sky. When we felled the moose a large sow, that
was sick. I had my first howl. Sweet and melodic we sang
across the rolling forest and mountains. Lapu started then
Amber joined in and all of us were singing, harmonizing with
each other.
When I got home as a human mom chided me.
"Why did you stay out so late!!"
I srudged as if I’d expected her to know the answer. "I
was staying with my friends." This was pretty much the truth.
"Well don’t stay out so late next time." I breathed a sigh of
relief as mom went back to her dishes, cleaning.
I picked my was through the brush trying to stick to the
main trail Amber had shown me. But it was hard wiht out a
good smelling nose. It was about 10:00 PM and I was
freezing in my bear pj’s. No help knowing that in my wolf suit
I would of been nice and toasty warm. I stepped on some
thick blackberry brambles and swore.
When I reached the top of a hill I howled weak and
quivery. I tryed again, this time, thinking ‘wolf’ at the same
time. The howl started quavery, but as I changed it rang out
loud and clear through the night air. I howled again this time
starting as a wolf.
After a few minutes of waiting a bleary eyed Amber
stumbled onto the hill. Just as tangled as I had been.
"What the *bleeping* heck is going on!" She screamed at
me. Ironically I started to laugh. It was funny, to see, the
leader of a wolf pack in her human form, on the top of a hill,
in the middle of the night, screaming at a wolf also standing
at the top of the hill. And if that wasn’t enough she was in
her ducky pj’s little ducks swimming all over her.
A second later Lapu stumbled up to the top of the hill,
holding a chair as if he was going to hit someone.
"What’s wrong?!!" He growled. I cracked up rolling on the
ground laughing. Amber looked at him with an Are-you-so-
stupid-look. I cracked up again. "What?" He questioned, I
didn’t have a chance to tell him, before Amber butted in. Not
that he would of heard me or understood a wolf talking.
Lapu pulled Amber into a thicket and hissed at her,
"What, Is, Happening!!!!!!!"
"I donno." She replied calmly looking him in the eye. Lapu
sighed as if Amber had done him some great wrong. Then
he walked up the hill to me, or rather stomped up.
"Sup Istas?" He groaned sitting cross-wise on the ground
in Indian fashion.
"I wanted to call all of us to have fun." I said hesitantly, not
sure if he could understand me or not.
"OHHH." He groaned." If that’s the case...." He yawned
and stretched touching the grass beyond his feet. Then he
went into some bushes. I watched intently wanting to see
what he would do. Nothing happened except a large gray
wolf stepped out of them. The gray wolf had blue eyes.
I stumbled backward in my confusion and Lapu laughed.
"Do you want to call Lakota and Kuck?" He asked me. I
nodded afraid my mouth would pop open if I spoke. I started
to howl Lapu joined in on a different tone and a quavery
voice from the bushes told us Amber was howling too. In
less than a minute Lakota trotted out of the woods with
Kuck on his heels. Amber walked out of the clearing then,
still covered on brambles. I started to crack up.
