Wolfkit bounded out of the nursery and sniffed the fresh morning air. It was only a moon now until she would become an apprentice.

Her sister, Greykit, bounded out behind her. She was the same age, therefore, she would become an apprentice at the same time.

"Let's go and see Redleaf!" Said Greykit. Redleaf was the ThunderClan medicine cat. She was always friendly to Wolfkit and Greykit.

They bounded over to the dark den and poked their head in.

Patchpelt, the Clan deputy, was just leaving, chewing up a poppy seed harshly.

"Hi Redleaf!" Said Wolfkit padding into the den.

"Well, hello Wolfkit! Is Greykit with you? I could use you two for a moment." Said Redleaf cheerfully. She was a burgendy-like she-cat with glossy fur.

"What do you need?" Asked Greykit. "Would you two go and find me some more poopy-seed?" Asked Redleaf. "I need some more, Patchpelt just took the last one."

"Of course!" Said Wolfkit. "Lets go Greykit!"

They bounded out of the den and into the forest out of the gorge tunnel.

Not long until both of their tiny mouths were filled with poopy-seed. They carried them back through the gorse tunnel carefully and dropped them into the Medicine-cat den at Redleaf's paws.

"Well done!" Said Redleaf gratefully. "You two did well!"

Wolfkit and Greykit purred satisfingly. They left the den, almost running into Badgerpaw on the way.

Badgerpaw snorted and walked on. He was Redleaf's apprentice, and not well mannered.

Wolfkit rolled her eyes and bounded over to a young warrior, Honeystep.

Honeystep was kind and affectionet to Wolfkit, this was who Wolfkit hoped for as her mentor.

"Hi there Wolfkit, how long until you become an apprentice?" Asked Honeystep kindly. "One one more moon!" Panted Wolfkit. She was tired from all the running she had done. "Where is you're sister?" Asked Honeystep. "I think she is talking to Patchpelt about when she will get to hunt...." Said Wolfkit slowing down her pants.

Honeystep laughed. "You know you can't hunt until you are trained to, and until you are an apprentice. That would be breaking the Warrior Code!"

Wolf kit shrugged. She watched as the sun creeped behind a dark gray cloud, and a plump drop of clear liquid spalshed onto her head.

"Uh-oh." Said Honeystep. "You better be getting back to the Nursery, a storm is coming. But make sure you take at least two mice with you, so all the kits can eat."

Wolfkit nodded, and she passed Greykit running to the Nursery.

"Hey!" Yelled Wolfkit. "Come help me get some mice!"

The two kits got to plump mice, and dragged them into the tight entrance of the nursery.

They shook their coats dry, and lay down for their meal.

Once their belly's were comfortably full, they settled down against their mother, Morningwind's pelt, and fell into a hypnotic state of Dark sleep.

                                          ***

A moon passed, and Wolfkit and Greykit finally reached the day where the one moment of excitment came, the day when they became apprentices!

Day dragged on and on, until the moon finally rose, and The yowl of the ThunderClan leader ecohed through the camp. Bramblestar hopped onto the Hgihrock, and Wolfkit and Greyheart sat side by side, their mothers tail wrapped around them.

Bramblestar called the two young kits to the front of the Highrock. There the were given their apprentice names, Wolfpaw and Greypaw.

Bramblepaw anounced Greypaw's mentor first. "Patchpelt," He began, "You will mentor Greypaw."

They each touched noses and sat next to each other, Greypaw's head held high.

'Wolfpaw," He started again, "Honeystep will menotr you."

Excitment jumped inside of Wolfpaw's belly. Honeystep, her mentor!

They touched noses, and purred. Then the Naming Ceremony was dismissed.

"Get up you lazy furball!" Called a harsh tone from the other side of the apprentice den. It was Badgerpaw.

"It is time to go to training!"

The two sisters got up and stretched.

Badgerpaw growled and walked out of the Apprentice Den.

They followed him out.

"He is one hasty furball!" Spat Greypaw when they got out of his sight. They headed for the entrance to the camp.

There sat Honeystep and Patchpelt, prepared and ready to take their new apprentices to the training hollow.

"I will take Wolfpaw to Sunningrocks." Said Honeystep, her tail curled around her paws.

Patchpelt gave a brief nod, and signaled for Greypaw to follow him as he walked out of the gorse tunnel with a twitch of his tail.

"Come Wolfpaw." Said Honeystep sweetly.

Wolfpaw followed Honeystep the long way to Sunningrocks. There, Wolfpaw was taught how to stalk mice.

In one spectacular day, she brought back five mice.

As she settled down to eat with the other apprentices, Wolfpaw noticed Badgerpaw talking with Bramblestar suspiciously in a whisper. He kept on looking at Wolfpaw.

Wolfpaw watched. She perked her ears, and she heard the words, "Kittypet's should'nt ever be apprentices! Much less warriors!"

Bramblestar nodded to Badgerpaw, as if in agreement.

Were they talking about her?

Then Badgerpaw whispered, "Does Greypaw even know she is a kittypet?"

Wolfpaw's eyes widened. If she was a kittypet, which she was sure she wasn't, wouldn't Greypaw be one too?

"No." Said Bramblestar in a whisper. "Greyheart is Clan born..."

Wolfpaw gulped down the last bit of her meal. She hurried to the gorse tunnel, there she found Patchpelt and Greyheart. Greyheart was holding six mice in her mouth, holding her head high in satisfacation.

Then she knew, if Wolfpaw told Greypaw about what he had just heard, she probably would be a bit worried. She decided to go to Honeystep instead.

"Honeystep!" yelled Wolfpaw outside the Warriors Den.

Honeystep poked her head out. "What is it Wolfpaw?" She asked kindly.

Wolfpaw explained. When she had finished, Honeystep just sighed, and whispered into her ear, "You aren't Clanborn, but don't take it too seriosuly, it is all ok."

Wolfpaw's eyes widened with fear. It was all true. She was a kkittypet!

She ran through the gorse tunnel as fast as she could, she didn't know why, but her paws carried her to the twoleg place.

She panted as the sound of barking came from behind her.

She jumped, startled. She landed on a twoleg fence that separated two gardens.

"Hello!" came a cheerful sound from behind her.

Wolfpaw spun around wildly, only to meet the amber gaze of a brown and cream-colored patched cat, just about her age.

"Uh...." she said embarrassed. She didn't know what to say.

"You look alot like Star!" Screeched the cat. He was a tom by the sound of his tone.

"Who?" asked Wolfpaw. "Star." repeated the tortishell cat. "You are like twins!"

Wolfpaw thought a moment confused, then it donged on her like a bell. Maybe this "Star" cat was her sister or brother!

"Would you to me to..... her?" asked Wolfpaw. "Sure!" said the tortishell tom.

He jumped off the twoleg fence and into a garden. He yowled loudly.

A moment later, a cat appeared at a window from inside the twoleg nest. This tom was right, Star did look like Wolfpaw!

The youg cat soon appeared through a hole on the twoleg nest door.

She slithered out gracefully.

"Whos this Leaf?" she asked. "I don't know." said the tortishell cat. "She asked to see you."

"Hi!" said Wolfpaw, half embarrased. "This is Star." expliained the tortishell. "And I'm Leaf."

"Nice to meet you." Purred Star. "Say, you look alot like me- and you smell funny!"

"I come from a Clan- Well.....sort of."

Leaf and Star gave each other an odd look, and then she explained the entire situation, and told them her name.

"Ah, I see now." Said Leaf. "You came back to find out about you're past."

"Yes." responded Wolfpaw. "But I proabally won't stay."

Right then a loud screech, then crash came from the Thunderpath.

The hair stood up on their back, and Star yelled, "Come on! Let's go see what happened!"

When the approached the thunderpath, two squirrels hurried off the black astfault, and in front of them, a destroyed monster smoked.

On the other side of the Thunderpath, a small cardboard box shook.

A wolf-like creature burst out of it.

He panted, and ran across the Thunderpath, spotting the three young cats.

He gave them an odd look and said, "Have you seen a red siberian husky around here?" he asked frantically.

When Wolfpaw's, Star's and Leaf's face was blank, he added, "Male?"

"Sorry." said Leaf. "We haven't seen him. Who are you?"

"Balto." replied the wolf-dog. "My son was with me on that truck, he was bringing us here..... Btu I'm not quite sure why. You have to help me find Kodi!"

"Is Kodi you're son?" Asked Star.

"Yes!" barked back Balto. "Please help me find him!"

They searched frantically around the Monster. Inside, an unconscious towleg sat in front of a big round wheel.

"Look!" called Leaf. "I found him!"

The other three bounded up to Leaf, in front of him, a muscualar red and white husky lay, boody and unresponsive.

"K-Kodi?" Asked Balto sputtering.

He didn't respond. I knew right away that Kodi wasn't breathing- He was dead.

I sighed. "Sorry Balto." Balto lowered his head and said, "It
