Kanook and his fellow scout were temporarily separated while reconnoitering the terrain. The beta sat on top of a cliff just above a pack he had never seen before. He observed that the alphess was fairly new to the job of leading a pack, he found their beta assisting the alphess in every way possible, and the omega was keeping an eye on the pups while the alphess was busy making a decision.

Nothing really fascinating was happening. He suspected that the pack would be wise enough to stay off the terrain that now belonged to him and Olathe. If Cheveyo were still alive, he would've done something about the new pack right here and now, but Kanook trusted that it would be better for him to just tell Olathe about it. He stood and turned around to leave.

"Shut up, Faolan! You never know what's going on, as usual!" snarled a dark brown wolf. A smaller, brown and grey wolf, Faolan, stood up to the first wolf.

"Just listen! I told you, I saw someone up on the cliffs! And unlike you, Panook, I DO know what's going on! And I say we vacate the area because someone else's territory could be nearby!" Faolan defended.

"Let Aleu decide that, she's the leader for a reason!" Panook was seconds away from breaking into violence, the other wolves did nothing but watch them because at this point they were the loudest thing around. "Why is that so hard for my stupid brother to figure out?"

Faolan looked down, his nose and lips twitching in anger and frustration. If they didn't get out of here, they were all probably going to be killed.

"Are you baring your fangs at me?" Panook snarled, biting his brother as a punishment.

As soon as the beta started walking, he heard an argument break out between the wolves in a series of growls and snarls. He brushed it off until he heard a sharp yipe coming from a younger wolf. He whipped around to see a swiftly-built wolf struck down to the ground.

He wasn't dead, as far as Kanook could see, but he still felt...pity for the poor guy. The wolf Kanook guessed was Panook had one paw firmly placed on young Faolan's head. Kanook couldn't hear what was being said, but he didn't like it one bit. The alphess finally made her way to the fueding brothers.

"Panook, Faolan," she spoke, trying to get them to stop. "I'm going to be forced to exile you both if you refuse to knock off this cr...nonsense."

"...Keep up the attitude...and you'll die a worthless loner." Panook concluded. Faolan's eyes were clenched shut. He wanted to cry, but he knew that's what Panook wanted too, so he didn't. Only a moment after, everyone was silent. Faolan opened one eye and saw a largely-built brown and creme colored wolf standing feet away from the pack, looking down at him with kind blue eyes. He then looked at Aleu.

"So, you're the alphess?" the wolf asked, simply.

    Aleu nodded. "And you are...?"

"I am Kanook, beta of a pack located in a terrain not far from here." he explained. "I mean you no harm, I just got a little sidetracked from all of the...noise." He gave his attention to Panook, who frowned in distaste.

"I'm sorry about that." Aleu apologized. "We'll get out of here as soon as possible and won't ever bother you again."

"That's very kind of you," Kanook said, continuing. "But I am more interested in how these two get along. Or rather, DON'T get along." He referred to Panook and Faolan. "I'm not trying to take away your pack members or anything, but I think it would be in the younger one's best interest if he wasn't around his older brother for a while."

Faolan was completely shocked. Was this wolf a blessing or something? One sent to take him away from his abusive brother?

Just the thought of finally getting away from Panook was relieving. Panook never used to be so violent towards him, but ever since Niju raised them, he had never been the same, even though Faolan kept his own mind.

Panook used every chance to prove his dominance over Faolan, whether it be out of brains or brawn. Faolan would mostly let Panook win, but as of late he could not stay quiet anymore. And of this Kanook guy was here to free him, he wouldn't have to worry about that anymore. Anyone was better to be with than his own brother.

Aleu looked back and fourth from Panook and Faolan to Kanook, then she sighed. Kanook felt for her, because she hadn't expected anything like this to happen and neither had he.

She agreed that Faolan go with the stranger and that he could return to her pack whenever he wanted. And with nothing more being said, Aleu's pack headed in the direction opposite Faolan and Kanook. Faolan did not look at his brother as he departed with his savior.

Faolan looked up at Kanook as they travelled and smiled in thanks. The beta smiled back and nodded his head.

"So, you're alright with this transfer, kiddo?" Kanook asked.

"Oh yes, I am." Faolan said enthusiastically. "And the name's Faolan, Mr. Kanook."

"Plain ol' Kanook works just fine, Faolan." he replied, trying out the name. He liked this young wolf. He seemed very smart and well-brought up, judging by his manners. And judging by his body structure, he looked pretty fast. He was positive Olathe would accept him into the pack.

The two wolves met up with Kanook's scouting partner, Conall and made their way back to Olathe's pack before it turned into evening. As Kanook predicted, Olathe was happy to add Faolan in their family. Kanook introduced Faolan to his nephew Achak, who was a bit older than him and built alot stronger than him too.

Achak took kindly to the newcomer, and so did his siblings and everyone else in the pack. Faolan bursted with joy deep inside. He was finally in a pack where he'd be heard and not abused. And it was all thanks to Mr. Kanook.

The next day, the pack gathered in separate groups to hunt a herd of deer they followed. Kanook was grouped with Faolan and both were looking forward to working with each other.

"You ever hunt a deer?" Kanook whispered to Faolan.

"No, but I've hunted a carribou before." he replied.

"This should be easy for you then." the beta smirked. He explained orders to his group, warning the newcomer to be light on his feet because deer were faster than carribou. Faolan remembered his words as they hunted their prey.

The newcomer did as he was told with excellent improvision when the deer decided to turn and attack. He managed to dodge the young injured stag's antlers and bit his face. He didn't get a good grip, but it was enough to make the hunt all the more easy. Kanook praised Faolan for obeying orders (and for his risky, but clever tricks) with a friendly push with his head.

The two of them proved to be very compatable as the moon emptied itself again and again. Their compatability lasted through Achak becoming alpha and through all of the new additions and subtractions to the pack.

It was safe to say that Kanook and Faolan developed a bond like that of a father and son. Everyone was happy for them, especially since Faolan had terrible luck with family and Kanook wasn't permitted to have his own pups. Faolan would scout most of the time, but not always together, which they didn't mind, but they savored every moment spent together.

It was any other day for Faolan scouting with a packmate named Dartanion. He scouted with him before, but Dartanion had about a year of experience over him. Both were on alert for any movement from the animals nearby, which was suspcious because there was no noise at all.

Dartanion stopped, not liking this. Faolan felt the same way. Faolan suggested going back to the pack, but when they turned around, they were ambushed by wolves not of their own pack. They were given no warning. In one swift movement, Faolan was grabbed by his neck and thrown to the ground.

Dartanion stood, horrified at what he saw, but then shocked to see the alpha of a rivalling pack standing beside a familiar grey and black female. The black and white alpha spoke, "Tell your 'leader' that I am taking his territory, his pack, and his life." He snarled. Dartanion looked at Faolan, but it was too late. He would've stayed to fight them off, but even for his masculine build, he was no match for them. Dartanion ran.

Kanook waited a few feet away from the rest of the pack after a huge scare from the humans. Achak and Kiona were shot at, but thankfully they were safe and everyone else had calmed down. Most of the scouts has already returned, except for Dartanion and Faolan, whom he could not wait to return.

He heard the sound of rapid beating paws against the snow and looked to see Dartanion. Kanook smiled at first, but when he saw his packmate's terrorstricken face, he frowned. It was then Dartanion delivered the news about Nayati and...Faolan. The information about Nayati was surprising enough, but the information about Faolan being murdered was almost enough to make Kanook forget about what needed to be done.

Achak was notified about Nayati as soon as possible, with a quick mention of Faolan's death. Kanook didn't want to go into too much detail about it, but once he told his alpha what needed to be known, he walked off by himself without much word about it. He walked, thinking to himself. He
