A young she-wolf sat by the river and stared into the shallows.  She felt a tear slide down her muzzle and into the crystal clear water as she thought of the event that just hours before had changed her life.  The she-wolf shook her furry head slightly as she tried to forget everything.

But how can I forget that? she asked herself.  We had known eachother for... ever!  Ever since we were pups we had spent much time together.

She shook her head again and studied her suroundings.  There were tons of willow trees around her with an interesting flower she had never seen before.  The moon casted intresting shadows over everything around her.  The she-wolf picked herself up and walked away from the stream with another shake of her head.

As the she-wolf started to walk away the first smell of rain came to her.  It couldn't have had better timing, she thought sarcasticly.  But what made me think that this day would get any better?

She walked silently for a while, not totaly aware of where she was going.  When the she-wolf finally looked up again, she found she was near her favorite area to think.  Smiling, she went up to the ledge she had found months ago.  Laying herself down, she looked out across the land, feeling the rain fall onto her fur.

"What made things turn out this way?" she asked herself.  "Where did it all go wrong?"  But as she asked the questions, she knew the answers.  It was her fault.  She knew that now.  And there's no way I'll ever be able to take it back.

The she-wolf looked into the sky again.  She felt a longing to be up there, soaring with the eagles.  She shook her head with a smile on her face as she thought it.  What would I do up there?

After only a few minutes, she stood up and shook herself off.  Sighing, the she-wolf started her decent.  In a way, she wished she could just stay up there and never come down.

"But there are still some who care about me," she told herself firmly.  "Only two left.  Not all of them."

She shook her head slightly again, still not being able to believe what had happened.

"Are you coming?"

The she-wolf jumped as she saw one of her friends come out from behind a bush.

"I was getting there silly," she told them with a playful laugh.  She was about to add something when she turned and saw two other wolves looking at her.  Not now... she thought.  I just want to be away from them!

The she-wolf turned back to her friend, seeing a few others coming toward them.  She forced a smile and wagged her tail.  "Hi guys."

"Are you ok?" one of them asked, seeing right through her fake smile.

She laughed a little.  "Yeah."  She looked back over her shoulder.  "I'm fine."

The she-wolf looked to her friends, seeing the disbelieving looks on their faces.

"Really!" she told them.  "I'll catch up with you guys in a bit."

One towards the back came forward a bit.  "What are you going to do?"

She shook her head.  "Nothing.  I'll... I'll catch up with you all soon, though  Okay?"

The she-wolf turned and started toward the two lone wolves and then stoped.  She didn't know what she would even say if they would even talk to her.

What do I really care?  she asked herself.  Now they are pretty much dead to me.

She slowed as she got closer, not knowing if she wanted to turn back, or go forward and confront them one last time.  After a few moments of going over what would come out of both, she decided to procide.  The worst thing that will happen is they'll just chase me away. she told herself.

"Do you think it was the right thing to do?" the smaller of the two wolves asked her friend.

The larger one nodded without hesitation.  "Yes.  You'll see, we'll be much better off without her."

"Without me, you mean?"

The she-wolf watched with amusment as the two spun around, a look of shock on their faces.  She took a few steps toward them, her tail held high. "I've just come to clear the air between us," she told them, her voice strong.

The larger of the two scoffed.  "The air does not need to be cleared."

"Is that so?" the she-wolf asked.  She could feel the anger inside screaming to be unleashed, but she held it under controll.  "At least I have tried, unlike you two."  She glared at the two females before her.  "And it was never my fault.  You both just want it to be, but it never was."  She hesitated, glancing from one to the other.  "It was your fault from the very begining."

The two females rolled their eyes.  "If that's the case," the biggest growled, "then why are you here?"

"Because I'm doing what's right," the she-wolf told them.  "You know I'm right about that at least."

They looked away.  The she-wolf smilied slightly and took a few steps back.  "You know where to find me," she said, turning.

The two wolves watched her leave, pondering her words.  Deep in their hearts, they knew she was right, neither of them wanted to admit it, though.

"Where have you been?"

The she-wolf jumped at the sound of one of her friends voices.  "Taking care of a few things."

Her friend gave her a skeptical look before nodding.  The two walked away, the she-wolf giving a slight sigh.

She turned around to see two sets of eyes looking back at her.  The she-wolf smiled and gave them a slight nod.  Her smile grew as she saw them nod back.

Turning back to her friend, she felt all of the anger leave her.  The she-wolf gazed up at the moon and felt a new begining getting in the midst.
