(Author’s Note) “Get it straight, usually my stories are dark and violent! But for this time… and only this time, I’ll write one funny and mushy cute story. I only did this for someone close to me, (not saying who though) we both helped each other make this story! Seriously, this story is majorly random. All right got it, good! Here we go...”

It was around three o’ clock in the evening when I saw her, she was a poor helpless husky who was being harassed by two male dogs. My owner and me were out for a jog when I noticed her in a small alley. My owner was busy talking to some girl from across the street, so I decided to help the poor husky. I escaped the grasp of my leash and chased to her aid.

I made my way into the alley and approached the males. “ Excuse me gentle dogs, if you knew what was best I suppose you’d leave her alone.” One of the dogs growled, “Who do you think you are!” I grinned and stood proud, “ I am Sam the shepherd, otherwise known as the seeker of justice, the police dog, and…” One of the dogs interrupted, “ also known as the baffling idiot.”

I ignored what he said. “ Now prepare to face the wrath of Sam…the shepherd.” Out of the blue something falls on my head. It wasn’t hard or anything…it was quite soft. It was probably a plastic bag. I couldn’t see anything so I panicked and ran in circles, “get this off me, get it off!” Then next thing I know, I’m out cold. I became unconscious,

I felt something tickle my cheek and I slowly opened my eyes. In front of me was the same husky I tried to save. “ Ah, you’re awake! You gave me quite a scare there.” I regained full consciousness and slowly stood up. “ So are you safe, did I protect you!” She grinned, “ Yeah you protected me, all I had to was fight them all by myself.” I blinked, “ Wait, so where are they?” “ Oh they left, plus they told me to tell you that you’re an idiot.”

I sighed. “ But hey thanks anyways, maybe you’d like to come to dinner with me as a reward for…err…saving me.” She asked. I wagged my tail and agreed. I walked her home that evening, we had learned so much about each other on the way. I learned that her name was Emma, and she was a pure bred husky. She had also learned my name, and my origins. What could I say; we were two of a kind!

“Why are you looking at me like that… is there something wrong Sam?” the cute sleek husky softly smiled. I stuttered, “ What, oh sorry, I couldn’t help myself, it’s just that…” Just then a larger wooden door opened, out came this large human that was about the same size as a grizzly bear.

I backed up nearly tipping over a garbage can in my way. The man laughed, “ Ah, there you are Emma!” She ran up to the man and he picked her up in his massive arms.

I then saw the man’s eyes focus on me. “ Emma, you brought a friend with you!” He gently lowered Emma to the floor and approached me. He said, “ Come on boy! I won’t bite.” I glanced over at Emma hoping that she’d give me advice on what to do. However, when I looked at her she just stood there watching me. Her cold and icy blue eyes made me feel like she was a stalker. A cold shiver went down my spine, “ What do I do?”

Out of nowhere, a large hand tried to reach out to me. I stood there and closed my eyes hoping he wasn’t trying to hurt me. Reluctantly he was just trying to get a better look at my collar. He read the inscriptions on my dog tag and chuckled. “ So… your name is Sam. How cute, Sam the shepherd.” I rolled my eyes at him; I always hear that phrase “Sam the shepherd.” What were my humans thinking when they named me?

I watched as the large man gently petted my scruffy head. “Well Sam, you’re welcome to stay with us for dinner. After all you are a guest in my house.” He stood up and re entered the house.

As soon as he left Emma ran towards me. She closely circled me and laughed, “ You’re not as bad as I thought you were, Sammy-Whammy!” I moaned, “ Please don’t call me that, my name is Sam-” She chuckled and leaped over me, nearly missing my head. “Whatever you say Sammers.”

Emma walked into the doorway and paused. She looked back at me, “ Well Sam… are you coming or not!” I trotted into the doorway and stopped by Emma, “ Oh, I couldn’t possibly…it’s so generous of you to invite me…but I have to…um…go to a party?” The next thing I know, she broke out in laughter nearly to the point of crying. I squinted my eyes, “ Why are you laughing?” She put a paw on me and said, “ Oh my Sam… you suck at lying… you’re so horrible!”

She quickly grabbed my collar in her mouth and dragged me inside. Once we were both inside she shut the door with her hind legs and led me to a small room. Inside were a bunch of humans sitting at a large table.

I recalled the man I met earlier sitting in the middle of the table. He must’ve been real special or something because he was eating like a pig. As he saw me he raised a large chicken thigh at me.

I tilted my head; maybe it was a sign on respect humans do. Emma nudged me and led me to two food bowl dishes on the ground. She quickly ran to her food bowl and stuffed her face full of kibble. I could only watch in awe as all the food disappeared quickly. I hadn’t touched my bowl realizing that the sight of Emma made me less appetized. I thought in my head, “ Dang, where does that all food go?”

Emma had finally stopped licking her plate and glanced at me. I looked at her crumby muzzle filled with chunks of uneaten kibble. She had realized her face was messy and started cleaning herself. She laughed, “ Sorry, where are my manners?” I grimly looked at her and said under my breath, “ I don’t know, maybe you ate it?” She perked her ears up, “ What did you say?” “ Oh, nothing,” I exaggerated.

After the whole supper Emma, and I sat in the living room. It so happened that the family was singing songs with their old Grand Piano. I happily obliged in their company, they weren’t that bad. As I was getting in to the whole singing thing, Emma tapped me on the shoulder. “ Sam, go upstairs to the roof…I’ll meet you up there!” I listened to her and leaped off the couch. I climbed up the stairs and found this old attic. In the far end was a small window. I slowly walked past the creaking floorboards and opened the window.

At long last I made it onto the roof. It was beautiful; I saw all the bright lights and tiny people walking around. It was pretty chilly outside I wondered how humans survived this temperature. I heard a loud cough behind and quickly turned around. There before me was Emma holding a large raw steak in her mouth. She dropped the steak on the floor. She smiled warmly at me, “ Well eat up?”

I nodded my head, “ It’s okay, and I’ve already eaten!” She had a questionable look oh her face as she heard me, “ Oh is that so? So you already ate?” I made a fake smiled, “ Yeah, I’m stuffed!” She raised her eyebrow, “ All right then, I guess I’m going to eat this yummy and juicy steak all by myself!” I watched desperately as she gobbled up that steak. What was I to say, I’m too shy to eat, no way, and besides she’ll think I’m a coward.

Around three and a half minutes later Emma had consumed the whole thing. We sat down at the tip of the roof having small conversations. At the same time I tried deeply to get my mind off that delicious steak. “ So Emma, why’d you take me up here, I mean don’t you think the roof is a bit strange?” I asked her. She suddenly leaned on me, and licked my cheek.

I blushed and moved in closer. “ I don’t understand is it because of your family, like you need your own space?” “No, they’re perfectly fine Sam.” She whispered. “ Oh, is it because you wanted to spend more time with me?” Emma suddenly stopped leaning on me. “ No, what makes you think that Sam?” She laughed. “ Well you just licked…ugh…so if its not that what is it then?” I stubbornly asked.

Emma didn’t respond, she just looked the other way. “Emma…” I whispered. Emma then looked at me directly. “…I love it” I lowered my ears, “ What…what was that?” She coughed, “ I mean, I love eating up here. It just makes me feel happy, like I wish I could do this forever.”

I scratched my head, “ So you want to be up here forever with just yourself, and a steak?” Emma sighed, “ Yeah, pretty much!” I sighed as well. “ You know, you’re pretty strange for a girl.” Emma laughed, “So I’ve been told.”
