The alpha male was slightly confused; if she needed to talk to him, why not at their den?

He was also puzzled by her insistence there were important matters to talk about. What was there to be discussed? The Blackstone Clan was one of the most honored packs in the region. Renowned for their use of peaceful tactics to settle disputes as well as providing the most balanced mediators, they were also charitable. It came at a price, however. Cassio had a habit of giving out pieces of the Blackstone territory to packs in need. Maybe this is what irritated Honey… who knows.

“Hello, Cassio.” Honey stepped out of the brush.

“Honey, there you are! You said there was something important we needed to talk about.” He nuzzled his mate in greeting, the golden wolf cringing at his touch. “Is something wrong? Is it King?”

“No, no. King is just fine. It’s about… you.” Cassio recoiled a bit.

“Me? Wha- I- did I do something wrong?”

“That’s the problem; you haven’t. When are the Blackstones going to become something great? A force to be reckoned with!” The sand wolf couldn’t believe what was coming out of his alpha female’s mouth!

“Glory is not what we strive for, Honey. You knew that going into this.”

“Oh no, I was under the impression we’d be respected for our physical abilities, not for your little ‘get in a circle and sing making daisy chains’ pack! We have strong wolves. Mussak can take down a stag on his own!” At this point Honey was circling Cassio, getting even more irritated. As she got angrier, her ranting got even more psychotic. “But no, you have to sit by and smile and nod like a damn fool! Wolves don’t survive by being nice. Our pack land is minimal because you gave it away! We’ve almost picked the food clean. Are you trying to starve us like your pups did?!” Cassio spun around, grinding his teeth so hard he thought they would crack.

“How DARE you trivialize the death of our children! It’s a miracle King survived that litter and now you go… MOCKING their demise?! You’re sick!” Honey smiled.

“That’s it. That’s the Cassio I want!” Her eyes and maniacal grin grew wider. “You know the rule; survival of the fittest. Unfortunately… the fittest is not you!” Honey’s expression returned to a blank stoic state. “It’s been an agonizing ride full of wanting to tear your throat out since the beginning… but now I have what I want.” She turned around to face the trees. “The unwavering devotion of a pack of morons who have no idea they’re being played. Because we all know morons in numbers are more dangerous than a singular one.”

“You… you set me up?! All this time I thought you cared…”

“Exactly. Because you’re part of the pack of morons. But guess who is now a vulnerable singular moron?” The sound of growling filled the air. Cassio backed up, whipping his head around trying to find the source. From behind Honey, a large mountain lion appeared. “You have worn out your use. And now it’s time to dispose of the emotional baggage.” She turned her head slightly to glace at the cougar. “He’s yours.”

With that signal, the cat leapt onto Cassio, the wolf barely dodging the blow. He threw himself at the cougar, latching onto its neck. The cougar roared and tossed its head, Cassio losing his grip and flying off straight into a tree trunk. He got up shakily and charged. But he didn’t go for the cougar; he headed straight towards Honey! The cat responded quickly, grabbing Cassio’s tail and yanking him back. Cassio landed on his back, the cougar slamming a paw square into his chest. Cassio yelped as he felt his ribs snap with the pressure. With one final slash to the throat, Cassio was dead.

All this time, Honey had been watching the whole thing unfold. After the deed was done, she smiled. “Satisfactory work. But remember, it’s an accident. You have to slash me up too.”

“Damn, lady! You’re a psycho!” But the cougar obliged. He cut into her shoulder and bit her hind leg and front ankles. “Good ‘nuff?”

“Yes, fine.”

“Remember we’s had a deal.”

“Of course. I will send some wolves as payment. You will feast well tonight. Where shall they meet you?”

“Oxbow Creek, by the great boulder.”

“So be it.” Honey strutted off.

“Hey lady! You ain’t gonna rip me off, right?” Honey stopped in her tracks.

“Oh no. I am true to my word.”

Back at the Blackstone den, the beta female, Chepi, was stretched out on a large obsidian slab; absorbing the rays of the sun. She smiled and nuzzled into the rock. “Pretending it’s me?” The beta male, Mussak, smirked.

“Oh hush. You know the wishful thinking is on your side and not mine.” Kachina, a stray who, for some reason, was selected as the alpha’s child’s mate, chuckled.

“Ooooh, she got you good, Mussak.” Mussak rolled his eyes.

“Mussak! Chepi! Kachina! Come quick! The alpha female is hurt!” Tanaga, an omega, directed the three to Honey, lying in a patch of grass sobbing.

“My God, Honey! Where’s Cassio?!” Chepi cried.

“Dead! The murderous feline took my beloved!” Honey coughed out in between sobs. “He attacked me too! His treachery knows no bounds!” Chepi began to lick the wounds.

“Hang on, Honey.” She murmured softly.

“The monster must be brought to justice!” Mussak roared, the rest of the park barking for bloodshed. Only one stayed silent. Kachina went to tend to him.

“King, darling.” She nuzzled him. “I’m so sorry…” King didn’t respond, he just sat there; frozen.

“She did it.” He whispered. Kachina backed up and tilted her head.

“Did what, King?”

“She killed him.”

“Well King, didn’t you hear? It was an accident, a mountain lion took him.” Kachina tried to smile. “Honey was attacked too.”

“Doesn’t matter. She set it up somehow.” Kachina heaved a frustrated sigh.

“I’m going to help Chepi.” She walked off just as Mussak approached King.

“Son, if you want to come with us to hunt the mountain lion…” King shook his head.

“Killing doesn’t bring him back.” Mussak nodded.

“Understood. Take care of your mother.” He left to join the group leaving for the cat hunt.

King wanted to cry. He wanted to confront his mother. But in a moment of slow motion as the pack hastily pulled things together, all hints of emotion were drained.

Several hours later, the hunting party returned. Some scratched and bloody, but some unharmed. Mussak took a slash to the face, losing his left eye. “Go tend to your wounds.”

“But Mussak…”

“Don’t worry about me. I must tell Honey.” He walked into the den, were Chepi and Kachina were keeping Honey company. “The murderer has been slain, my alpha.” Honey sniffed.

“Thank you, Mussak.” She noticed his face. “Your eye-“

“I take all punishment in the name of the Blackstone Clan.” He proudly replied. “But what of the alpha male position? Should it go to your son?”

“He is too young. I shall find someone, Mussak.” Mussak bowed and left.

“Justice has been served.” Chepi smiled. “But the clan… it’ll suffer without Cassio!”

“Don’t fret, Chepi.” Honey laid her head on her paws.

“We’ll do just fine.”

Note from Sora-kun: So yeah, part one kinda. My fanfics aren’t terribly long, I know. I try to draw them out.

The wolf versus mountain lion scene was too gruesome and cussy for BS. It was removed.
