loudly. His friend didn’t say anything but smiled.
Cass stood up again and was about to walk away, but then he saw her. A beautiful white and grey border collie with a big black bow around her neck was running with a little blond girl. Cass just watched her amazed. He had never seen her before. He had to have her.
His friend noticed what he was looking at.
“That’s the new girl in town, I heard about it from Tina, Sadeye’s friend. They really hate you man! And she does to. Her name is Soraya!” His friends said sitting down next to him watching the pretty female.
“There is no chance…” His friend stopped speaking because Cass was already gone to talk with her.
“This is going to end badly” He laughed and lay down in the shadow to watch the show.
Cass walked up to Soraya who had to wait outside while he owner went into the shop. She sat there watching the people around until she noticed the dog now standing next to her.
“Can I help you?” She asked giving the stranger a suspicious look. Cass smiled proudly and sat down next to her but as he did, Soraya stood up.
“I am sorry miss, I’m new to this town and don’t know anyone who could be so nice to show me around” Cass lied and stood up again. Soraya didn’t take it and still kept her distance.
“I’m Buck and just moved her from White Mountain” Cass lied again and smiled.
“I’m Soraya. Well I guess I can show you around, I know how it is to be new.” Soraya said and they walked off together.
Cass’s amazed friend watched Cass’ leaving with the gorgeous girl who really hated his guts.
------------------------
2 months later
“She is different, man! I can’t act around her like I normally do around other girls! Maybe it’s because I’m not being myself but this Buck guy!” Cass was walking around frustrated, talking to his friend.
“I have to run away from her every time we see another girl coming up close, because if they would call my name she would figure out who I am,” Cass said and kicked an old can which was lying on the ground.
“Chill man, aren’t you going out with her tonight? Maybe you can just take her outside of town, to watch the sunset by the sea,” said his friend who was getting bored by this conversation.
“That’s a great idea! Thanks!” Cass said before leaving to meet Soraya.
Soraya stood outside her house. The weather was good and there were no clouds in the sky. She smiled happily; Buck had been such an amazing friend to her. They were really growing close. Or so she thought.
“Hey there, beautiful,” Cass said as he came behind her. Soraya was taken by a surprise so she almost jumped up and was blushing a lot when she looked at him.
“Hi Buck,” she said and walked over to him. Cass looked up at the sky. He knew there would be a lot of dogs watching the sunset tonight, the weather was way too good.
“Hey, I want to show you something,” Cass said and walked towards the town. Soraya followed him, not sure what they could do in town.
Cass stopped outside the boiler room and looked inside. No one was there. Relived, he pushed the door open.
“Isn’t the weather way to good to be hanging inside?” Soraya asked looking around the empty room.
“Follow me, you’ll just have to wait and see,” Cass walked through a gap in the wall. Remembering the story his grandfather had told him when he went down there with his grandma.
“Buck it’s so dirty down here,” Soraya said behind him getting stuck in dust webs that were in the way.
“This is the most beautiful place in the world,” Cass said and walked on.
“I can’t see why,” Soraya said and Cass laughed because it was the same thing his grandma had said.
Finally, he stopped in a bigger room under the hospital.
“Look these are the polar ice caps,” Cass said and pushed broken bottles under the light from the room above.
“Buck, those are broken bottles,” Soraya said watching him move around the room.
“And the sun and to the north,” Cass said and moved aside making the bottles cast light from the room above into the corner of the room. And there - in front of them - were the northern lights.
“Oh Buck, that’s beautiful” Soraya gasped in amazement watching the lights. Cass was very proud of himself. This move had to work!
Soraya turned to look at him and Cass smiled back. Cass leaned closer and was about to kiss her when a voice was heard above in the boiler room.
Cass listened more carefully and could hear it was Sadeye.
“Damn what is she doing here?” Cass thought he had gotten rid of her.
“I’ll be right back,” He said to Soraya who watched him run up into the boiler room again.
“Sadeye, what are you doing here?” Cass said and Sadeye turned around surprised.
“CASS!” Sadeye said angrily
“Still trying to get all the girls? I just talked to Pixi and she told me you broke up with her! Can’t you handle it when we get to close to you?” Sadeye snarled before walking out and kicking the door hard behind her.
Cass turned around and was about to go down again to meet Soraya, but when he turned around she was standing right behind him and had heard every single word Sadeye had said.
“You’re Cass?” She said in a low voice.
“Soraya, I can explain!” Cass said but was stopped before he could say anything else.
“They warned me not to fall for the guy called Cass! They said he only wanted one thing! And I’m guessing you were finally going to make your move now! At a place where no one else was” Soraya was standing face to face with Cass tears were starting to show up in her eyes.
“Soraya…” Cass tried
“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT! I can’t believe I was falling for you!” Soraya ran to the door and tried to push it open but it didn’t move. Soraya tried again but still, it didn’t move.
Cass watched her but didn’t dare to move.
After a while, Soraya gave up and lied down close to the door. The entire time she didn’t even glance at Cass.
“Soraya please…”
“No Cass, don’t even dare come close to me again, I never want to speak to you again!” Soraya didn’t even look up when she spoke. Cass could hear that her voice was breaking and her breathing was hard from the crying.
------------------------
Time had passed and morning had arrived. Both Cass and Soraya still lay in a different corner of the room. Cass didn’t dare to say anything; he knew he had screwed up to much already.
The door was opened and both Cass and Soraya looked up.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” A man said laughing. He was most likely a musher looking for his dogs who came often to the boiler room to spend the night away from the cold.
“Looks like there was some action going on.” The man said still laughing. Soraya wasn’t in a mood for this so she stood up and gave a quite growl as she walked out.
“Or not,” He said and realized the dogs hadn’t been close to each other at all.
“Well you’ll get her next time, chump!” The man announced and walked away. He hadn’t found his dogs so there was no point in staying.
Cass sighed and stood up as well. No point in staying here.
“What have I done?” Cass asked himself as he came out to the street. Remembering the shock on Soraya’s face was horrible. Why had it gotten to him so badly? She wasn’t different from the other girls…or was she?
-----------------------------
“Cass I’m home!” Carl announced as he closed the door behind himself. He was surprised that his dog was actually at home.
“What is the matter, boy?” Carl asked as he sat down in the kitchen. Cass had laid his head on his knee and Carl laid his hand on his head.
“The famous Cass got rejected?” Carl said teasingly. Cass wasn’t very happy with Carl teasing him like this so he left.
“Get over it Cass! It’s just one girl!” Cass tried saying to himself as he walked down the street. But it seemed that the news had gotten out between the girls. As he walked by they had usually jumped at him making sweet talk but now they only gave him an evil glance before walking away.
“Hey there, boy,” A deep voice said coming from behind him. Cass turned around seeing his father standing there.
“Hey dad,” Cass replied. His dad wasn’t proud of him like his other siblings and his mom was rather disappointed with him. But it hadn’t mattered much to him.
“Cass, this has got to stop!” Aidan said. Cass tried to turn away but his father stopped him.
“Me and your mother have tried to talked to you about this before, but now you see it’s coming back to hunt you!” Aidan announced.
“Well, then you and mom should be happy!” Cass growled.
“Cass, listen to me! The thing you did to that girl was unfair. But, I’m guessing, there is another reason behind this. You’ve fallen for her.” Aidan said. Cass looked up at his father.
“Like it matters now?! She’s gone, she hates me and you know what, she should!” Cass was tired of this. He turned around and walked away.
Aidan sighed and watched his son.
“Don’t do the same mistake twice.”

“Soraya…Soraya?” Tanja was lying on the floor in front of her dog trying to call her name but she ignored her and turned her head the other direction.
“MOM! There’s something wrong with Soraya!” Tanja called to her mom who had just been walking outside her room.
Her mom came in and looked at Soraya.
“Mom
