Rabid

Blood dripped from her jaws and she let out a vicious snarl blood curdling in the Summer leaves. Sasha backed away her legs shaking violently. “Buffy she stammered it’s me Sasha I’m your friend don’t you recognise me?” Buffy gave another snarl and leapt, she Knocked Sasha onto her back and tried to rip open her throat. Sasha gave a cry of fear and struggled to free herself knowing that if Buffy bit her or she got any of Buffy’s salver on her it would be over she would catch the infection herself. With a snarl Sasha threw Buffy off her and into the dirt she then got to her feet and ran.

3 weeks earlier

Sasha lapped at the water near her home drinking its cool texture.  She then waded into the cool river cooling her hot pelt. It was summer in the Australian bush and unbelievably hot. It seemed so hot that even the trees seemed to sweat. Sasha heard her pack mates splash in behind her and gave a startled yelp as something pulled her under the water she paddled franticly to the surface and glared at her attacker it was Buffy. “Watch it” Sasha snarled the heat making her short tempered. Buffy backed away a little “well I’m sorry” she snarled back “didn’t realize you hated me that much”. Sasha glared at Buffy “just stay away from me” she snarled “and you won’t have the problem”. Buffy gave an irritated snort and spun around swimming over to the rest of the pack who were splashing each other a couple of fox lengths away. Sasha snarled and stayed were she was soaking up the cool water thinking about her life.

2 years earlier

Sasha and her pack mates had first lived with humans. But Sasha soon dreamed of being free, running through the woods and catching her own prey. She had wandered into the small area of shrub land behind her home and hunted mice and voles. There she found that a group of 4 dogs also wanted to live in the bush. They also knew of two other dogs that wanted to leave as well and had a meeting were they decided to make the two week journey to the Australian bush.

Present

“Come on Sasha” cried a voice breaking her out of her thoughts. Sasha spun around and saw Dexter waving his tail for her to join them. Dexter was known for his bad temper and often snapped at everyone but Sasha could see that he liked her. “Coming” she cried back swimming over to him and the others. Buffy glared at her as she swam past but Sasha ignored her and leapt onto Dexter pushing him into the water.

It was late afternoon by the time they climbed out of the water and had begun to get cooler so that it was a little more comfortable out of the water. “Well I guess we should hunt” growled Dexter lashing his black tail, Sasha do you want to come with me. Buffy glared jealously at Sasha for she liked Dexter and always wanted to be with him. “Sure” she growled ignoring Buffy “let’s go”. Sasha walked off with Dexter before any dog could protest.

Dexter brought Sasha to a large clearing where Sasha instantly heard the unmistakable sounds of prey. “Rabbit” she growled “dropping into a hunting crouch. A moment later she pounced and killed the small rabbit by a swift bite to the neck “well done” growled Dexter. “Thanks” Growled Sasha. She buried it under some leaves and they went to hunt.

Sasha lay tearing into a fish when something leapt onto her back Sasha gave a cry of surprise and heaved upward throwing her attacker off her and swung around to face them. It was Buffy she was smirking. “What was that for” snarled Sasha. “You tried to take Dexter from me “snarled Buffy He likes me not a scraggly mess like you”.  “Insult me how dare you “snarled Sasha. Sasha leapt onto Buffy’s back digging her claws into it “Dexter prefers me “snarled Sasha. “You snarled Buffy bucking to get Sasha off her Back “why would he prefer a scraggly, messy, smelly idiot like you”. Sasha snarled and sank her teeth into Buffy’s neck. Buffy gave a snarl and threw Sasha off her, Sasha was flung to the ground with Buffy landing on top of her “we wont have to decide she snarled ill just kill you, Buffy sank her teeth onto Sasha’s neck. Sasha tried desperately to free herself but Buffy was too strong. Suddenly there was a furry blur and Buffy was knocked off Sasha. Sasha looked up it was Dexter his lips were drawn back in a snarl revealing his thorn sharp teeth “Keep you paws off my mate” he snarled at Buffy, He leapt towards her and Bit her ear Buffy yelped and tried to pull away but Dexter kept a firm grip on it ripping it towards him, Buffy yelped again and tried to pull away but Dexter held on for a few moments longer before letting her go “now stay away from my mate” snarled Dexter. “Traitor” snarled Buffy crouching to leap at Dexter. Dexter snarled and also dropped into a crouch but before the fight could go any further Dexter’s brother Demon stepped between them “That’s enough” he snarled he turned on Buffy “how dare you attack Sasha without a reason”. I did have a reason” snarled Buffy “that piece of scraggly fur over there is trying to take my mate away”.  “Your mate” sneered demon “and your sure that Dexter likes you are you?” Before Buffy could reply Demon raised his paw and slapped her across the face claws extended “now get away from Sasha and go hunt” he snarled, Buffy opened her mouth to make a sharp reply but Demon stepped hard on her paw “NOW!” he snarled. Buffy curled her lip in a snarl, and after hesitating for a few moments to glare at Sasha and Dexter, spun around and raced out of the gathering place. Demon watched her go then went and lay next to Finlay who had been quietly watching the violent exchange. Out of all of the pack Finlay was the gentlest and never raised her voice in anger. Dexter snorted and spun around stalking into the bushes. Sasha heaved a sigh and padded over to Demon “thankyou” she growled. She then raced into the bushes after Dexter.

Sasha walked beside Dexter, It was midday and stiflingly hot. The rest of the pack was strung out in front of them on their daily trek to the river were it was cool. Sasha waged her tail happily and play nipped Dexter on the shoulder, Dexter spun around and leapt on top of her rolling her easily onto her back with playful snarls the two began to fight Suddenly a horrifying yowl of fear interrupted them. Sasha broke away from Dexter and ran towards the sound it was coming from a clump of bushes just ahead of her she leapt into the bushes what she saw there made her stop in horror and let out a horrifying scream of terror…….
