Evolution: Part 2
For a while they didn't mess with me, besides occasionally taking me into an examination room. The boss-person always checked my paws, and not long after I had recovered from the surgery I discovered I had pointed ears. And...unusual eyes.
Cold hands picked me up and set me down on the ground, walking me to the examination room. I limped forward, my paws were still sore. We passed a few of their silver cabinets, the ones they stored medicine and rags in. I saw my reflection.
I was taller, my ears were pricked, and my eyes...I'd never seen anything like them. They were dark, outlined in black, no whites of them shown. The color had changed from a dark brown, to a blazing amber that nearly scared me. I wasn't myself anymore. I had more fur around the places where I was experimented on, it was a bit shaggy, unusual, but comfortable.
This was amazing...and terrifying! What were they turning me into?
I spent days wondering what was going to happen to me next, laying on the cage floor, peering through the cold bars and resting my muzzle on soft, furry paws. Just when I started to hope they would let me free, I was taken back into the room where they had changed me last. The boss-human was there again, he usually was the one to put me into my dream place.
But I wasn't asleep, not fully. They laid me out on the table, while I was paralyzed, and I could heair them putting rubber gloves on, getting their tools ready. I felt a sharp pain in my side, and cold took over me completely, numbing me.
Something was closing around my skull, or it felt like it...I couldn't tell, and then all of a sudden, I felt loose around the neck and shoulders. Another pain in my side, and finally I was asleep.
My dream was unusual. Ever since I had surgery on my eyes, my sleep would be interrupted by sudden bursts of red light, and I would see in the color blood red, wherever I went(in my sleep of course). Not able to even control myself, a sudden instinct to attack would come over me, like it did now. But just like before, whenever I was about to lunge, something always woke me up.
This time I expected to have something else wrong with me, and I was correct. Wrapped around the top part of my muzzle were a few rags, though not too tight, or too loose. My nose stung slightly, and my shoulders were aching a bit. I turned my head to see white cloth, stained with a bit of red, wrapped around my front.
Please...make this END! I begged to whatever was watching over me. When nothing answered, a low, unusual snarl escaped me. Then I'll end it myself, when the time is right.
Snapping my jaws, they closed down on a human hand, and quickly I jerked back. Cursing, the human withdrew his hand and held it close to him. "Damn dog..."
They were trying to take off the rags over my top jaw and shoulders, and I was warning them not to try anything else with me. As if they understood, the boss-human took off the rags and cloth, cleaning my bloodied fur and drying it out.
I jumped from the examination table and landed easily on the floor, barely making a sound. Recently they had let me run around the lab on a leash, sometimes without one, for exercise. However their doors were kept locked and shut down. No windows were in sight, they didn't have any.
Lashing my now much longer, furrier tail, I stalked through the rooms with risen hackles. I could sense their newfound fear of me...but whatever it was they were doing to me, I knew they wouldn't stop no matter what. Licking my jaw, my tongue went over my fangs, and started to bleed.
They had replaced my canines with steel, sharper, bigger fangs, and they just almost poked out of my mouth when my jaw was fully closed. My amber eyes darted across the room, taking everything in. I was seeing in color ever since I had these eyes. Before I'd only seen black, white, and grey. Now I knew what yellow was, red most of all...blood, I had seen alot of that lately. Most of it was my own.
My claws were growing faster, larger, longer and sharper. I tested them occasionally on the meat they threw for me to it. They had changed my usual food as well...from dogfood, to meat...and occasionally they let me chase down my own prey and eat it then and there. Sometimes rabbit.
I glanced around me. Everyone in the room at the computers, at the tables, they had gone quiet, and kept looking at me out of the corners of their eyes. I could see guns poking out of their labcoats, in case I attacked.
Oh, they were very afraid of me...with good reason. I was planning to escape once they had finished with me. They would create their own murderer! Ha, the irony of it.
Ever since I had a few of my surgeries over with, my personality changed a lot. It hardened. I used to be able to whimper in fear, whine to play, and have fun. Now all I thought about was how to get out, and planning to kill them off soon.
But then I sighed, wishing my old personality would come back. Just as the doors opened, I whipped around to face what was coming. Another human already? I bared my fangs to warn them I would bite.
However, that's not what happened. A female scientist, the only one there of that gender that I'd seen, walked past me. Though that's not what my jaw dropped at. Following behind her, loyally, a pure white wolf. Without a leash!
I sniffed the wolf as it went by. I heard it growl, but I figured out my information. Female. I started to follow her, to warn her about what would happen to her here, and to escape.
But I was kicked back by one of the humans, and I watched the white wolf disappear from view into another room.
I hoped I'd see her again. I was lonely here.

I love this chapter so much! Especially that ending line about he's lonely. It really makes you feel for the character. I know you have a habit of killing off the characters everyone loves- don't kill off him!!! |
