mother eating the pills very slowly from her weakness. Takoda trotted to her mother and nuzzled her.

“Mom, meet your son, Balto.” She said as she whispered into her mom’s ear. Aniu lifted her head and gave a slight smile.

“Thank you son….” She said as she pulled her head down to the ground. Balto nudged her.

“Are you going to be okay?” he said as tears came down his face.

“I will be all right when the medicine will kick in.” Aniu whispered when she nuzzled her son softly.

“Let mother sleep for awhile.” Said Shine as she lies down next to her mom. They all knew the medicine will work, but it will take some time and siblings will have to be patient.

“I’m going outside….” Balto said as he headed outside the cave. He was outside standing on the ledge of the rather large hill full of snow. Takoda followed her brother.

“Isn’t beautiful…..” she said as she paused to get the view of the forest. Balto grinned back, and the wind blew softly through his fur, but then the two heard a cracking noise.

“What’s that noise?” said Takoda turning her head this way and that, but then she saw what was happening. Since Balto was on the ledge of the large hill, his weight with all the snow was bringing it down, so it started to crack underneath his little, scrawny body.

“BALTO!”  Shouted Takoda to her brother, but it was too late. Balto looked underneath his feet and the cracking ledge broke. Balto came plummeting down the hill. He screamed in fear when tumbling down with all the snow, but luckily he fell on his rear end in the soft, fluffy snow. Balto took a deep breath in and out.

“Ughhhhhh…..” he said putting his paw to his rear and rubbing it softly to make it feel better.

“Luckily I didn’t fall on my head, and I can still remember everything, like Takoda, Shine, mother, Nome, Boris……. BORIS! I need to hurry home before he freaks out where I have been. But then that means I have to leave my family here. It would take long to climb again, and the evening is beginning right now. All needed to do was bring the medicine back to her, and all I hope is for mother to feel better. Also, the hill is too dangerous to climb up since I have tumbled down it, and I bet mother and sisters wouldn’t want me to lose my life just for climbing that hazardous hill. All they want is for me to be safe, and I am right now, so I should head home to be safe with Boris…..” so Balto walked slowly from his pain, but he was able to make it out of the darkening forest in no time. When his pain started to ease up a bit, Balto started to run slowly. Then, he came upon the outskirts of Nome, and he entered the town carefully before anyone can notice him. But then, he froze in his tracks, and turned around quickly.

“Steele.” Balto said to his enemy.

“Why hello there Balto. I see you came here to see me like I told you so.” Replied Steele as he was circling Balto. Balto growled while he was showing his bared teeth. Steele looked a bit scared, but he was able to manage a growl too, but before the two could attack each other, Boris came into the rescue.

“Balto, come with me and we will head to the boat.” Said Boris pulling on his tail. Balto obeyed, and he followed Boris. Steele was left behind, but he smirked in his evil way.

“We will meet again Balto!” Steele shouted as his voice started to fade away. The night continued, and Boris and Balto didn’t say anything to each other.

“We can talk tomorrow Balto.” Said Boris on the floor next to Balto. Balto just went under the blanket and he dreamed of his mother that night.
