Wolf's Rain Two: Part 12

Paradise

With every bite or scratch we gave Darcia, there was a price to pay. Each time we were near to bringing him down, we would get hit and blood would flow on the ground in large amounts.

Rowan was holding on, fangs pierced through Darcia's throat, while taking several blows that Darcia delivered, who was trying to get her off.

Tsume was attacking Darcia constantly, fangs and claws cutting his pelt and face with each passing second. But he was hurt badly, and couldn't keep it up if he got hit just a few more times...

I was doing very well, and being quick on my paws gave me an advantage. I couldn't deliver very big attacks, but I could dodge the ones given to me.

Toboe did just as well as me, though he got hit a lot more because he attacked more. I tried to fight as best as I could, but it was like I never got a chance. Everyone else got in the way, unless they were just trying to protect me...

But eventually they grew tired and had a harder time keeping me from getting hurt. I wished they would just stop it, and let me help. They were letting Toboe help, and he wasn't much older than me! Was it because I was a young girl? I don't know.

Or they considered me as a pack member already.

The thought that I was considered family already slowed me down a bit, then I felt my pelt being ripped as Darcia scored his claws over my shoulder. Whipping around and snapping my jaws, I managed to slice his muzzle and face quickly before ducking a killing blow.

Tsume lunged and sank his fangs into Darcia's skull, blood splattering the ground. The massive black wolf snarled loudly, and tried to shake Tsume off. But the more he tried, Tsume only bit down harder and wouldn't let go.

Growling, Rowan rammed straight into Darcia and I could hear ribs crack harshly, I even flinched. Toboe was the next to attack, fangs sinking into Darcia's spine and cracking bone. I prepared myself and took off at Darcia, full speed, and lunged.

The next thing I knew, my fangs went straight through his neck and to the other side. I myself was suprised, and nearly let go. Fur bristling, I curled my lip and clamped my jaw together, hearing something crack, and hoping it wasn't my mouth. I heard claws slicing a pelt, but realized that Darcia was clawing at me. Scratches began to cover my face and shoulders, then I bit down on his throat with a snarl.

I felt a weight going down, and let go. Darcia fell over on the ground, blood forming in pools under him. Though he kept trying to stand up, yelling curses at the pack with wide, blazing eyes.

Flattening my ears, I took a pawstep back in shock. Had I...? Well I didn't kill him, but nearly...Tsume glared down at the black wolf, fangs bared and dripping with blood from the fight. I was still suprised at how my uncle could be standing after the whole thing.

Rowan curled her lip. "Who wants to finish the bastard off?" Tsume, Rowan, Toboe and I all looked at eachother with the same idea. Growling in unision, we lunged at Darcia at once.

Limping a little, I walked back towards Kiba and Cheza next to Toboe. Tsume and Rowan walked at the front, though both kept looking back to make sure we were ok.

"You ok?" Toboe turned to look at me, when I realized that he was actually there. I snapped out of a tired daze.

"Yeah. You?"

He just nodded, half shrugged, and kept walking. While the other two told Kiba what had happened, I kept my eyes glued on the dark sky. When will Paradise open....is there even a Paradise?

I felt someone nudge me and turned to see Toboe again. "What?" My vision was a little blurry...maybe I'd lost too much blood or something. He looked worried, if I could see his expression correctly.

"Don't worry, we'll be in Paradise soon." He sighed, seeing how unfocused and tired looking I was.

"I know," I looked over at Toboe. Either I was crazy or stupid, staring at him like that. His eyes widened a bit, I was looking at him like...well...wierd.

"Uh...Rain...?" He moved back a little. "Maybe ya need to rest a bit before we go anywhere." I flattened an ear in embarassment, and nodded slightly.

Not long after I was being shaken awake. "Rain! Rain! Get up!" But I didn't open my eyes, Instead I just shoved whoever it was away. I was running in a field, under the warm sun. I didn't want to move.

I spotted a butterfly and wagged my white tipped tail, staring to run after it. I heard faint voices, though. "I can't get her to wake up!" Someone shouted.

"Rain! You have to wake up, Paradise is open! All you have to do is get up and follow us!" The voice rang a bell, but I couldn't lay a paw on it.

I sat down and looked up at the bright, non-cloudy sky as the scent and wind of the sea flew twoards me. I was comfortable here, this was paradise to me. I wished that the one who was talking to me would just shut up and go away. I was happy here!

Then I heard another voice, coming from a direction where light began to shine slowly, then got brighter every second. "Come...this is home, follow us." It said. For a moment I wondered if it was my mother, who had died when I was born.

But then the familiar voice in the opposite direction was louder. "Rain! You can't leave now, we're so close! Please!" Then other voices joined in, and I remembered Toboe and the others. Had I left them? I didn't even realize it until now.

I glanced at the bright light and shook my head slowly. I wanted to go back with my friends. Turning, I took off for the voices of my pack. But they were staring to fade...was I dying? I needed to hurry!

Coughing, I opened my eyes and looked up, shaking. The pack was crowded around me with shocked, and worried faces. I thought I hadn't made it back, but I did. Still gasping for breath, I put my head on the ground and flattened my ears.

Toboe sighed, and hung his head, as well as the rest of the wolves. I tipped my head. Why were they so sad? I was back! I stood up. "Guys! What happened?"

They didn't answer, and behind them I saw a transparent white wolf looking at me. "You aren't here, Rain, not in their eyes. To them you are dead." I wondered what she was talking about, until I saw my paw was see-through.

My body lay on the ground behind me, dead from internal bleeding and probably the cold as well. I wasn't breathing at all, and I could tell my pulse was gone.

How could this happen?! I whipped around to the white wolf, who was walking towards a light, tail flicking for me to follow. I realized I would never make it to Paradise...

I began to follow the white wolf, before I turned and watched my pack for the last time. I would be joining Hige and Blue soon, along with my mother, but without the wolf I really wanted to be with more than ever.

Head lowering, I looked away from the redish brown wolf and raced to the white wolf that would lead me to the place I'd be for all eternity.

"Come on," Kiba stood up and turned, heading for a line that split across the ground and never ended. If they passed it, they would be in Paradise.

Toboe flattened an ear and looked down at Rain, dead forever, and finally stood up. They had grieved for a while, but they couldn't do it long, there was no time.

Rowan went over to Toboe and told him to hurry up, but she didn't sound cross now. She knew all about having to leave friends now. Speeding up a bit, Toboe halted when Kiba stopped. Tsume came up beside Rowan.

Four. Out of seven...only four could make it to Paradise. And the three who left would be missed forever.

Kiba took the first step over the cut line, and then walked forward until he suddenly disappeared out of thin air. He was in Paradise at that moment, waiting for the others.

Rowan hesitated, and looked back at where all three friends had fallen. She went forward and faded away.

Tsume waited for a moment, thought things over before finally taking a pawstep over the line, and going into Paradise.

Toboe took a breath, and looked back at Rain. She looked so lifeless, as if she had never been. But she was with  Hige and Blue now. I should be thankful for who I have now, instead of grieving over what was lost. Toboe could hardly believe his thoughts.

Turning back to the entrance of Paradise, the red wolf sighed and stared straight ahead in thought. He wondered what Paradise might be like, what all would be waiting for him. Would the wolves really be sent there together, or would they be cut off in their own territory with their dreams.

The more he thought, the more Toboe was having second thoughts. But I've traveled all this way...

He decided to face what was coming, and crossed the line, leaving that unfriendly and horrible world forever. There would be no turning back, coming back, he would be cut off from Earth completely.

Toboe finally made it into Paradise.

Bound By Blood: *bows* Thank you everyone! I know it's a sad and crappy ending, but that's meh style, and it happened in the first one as well and everyone loved that series.
