Will There Be Beauty From Pain? Part One
How did it get this bad? How did I get so carried away? I feel unbelievably
weak...and starved. My stomach is growling and it makes me wither in
agony. My throat is burning like the intensity of the blazing sun and I feel as if I will never be
able to move my limbs again. I keep reminissing about how this began,
the dreaded beginning of the paving of my path to self-destruction.
-Flashback-
"This is by far the prettiest litter of husky pups I've ever
layed my eyes on !" Said a man as he analyzed my sisters and I. Though he
seemed to always be glancing back at me thoughtfully. I really didn't
understand why. I didn't see anything special about me. I thought all my sisters were much prettier than I was...I envied them so much
for their good looks.
Suddenly a high pitched, young, female human voice interrupted my
negative thoughts. She came running towards the crate that my sisters and I were in with a huge smile. Her parents jogging behind her, trying to keep up. The young girl was so excited that she was
unaware of the man who was also looking at us, so, she pushed her way in
front of him. Luckily, the man was not upset, he simply chuckled with
amusement.
The young girl looked us all over excitedly. She looked from left
to right, thinking carefully about which one of us she wanted to adopt.
After a few minutes she tugged at the sleeve of her mother's coat and said decidedly, "I want
her. She looks really friendly...I'll name her...Jenna !" And with that,
she picked up my younger sibling, Murreeze who had just been renamed
Jenna.
"Thank you so much sir, Rosie will love her !" The young girl's
mother told the man who was selling us, as she paid him with a smile.
Rosie quickly skipped away with my sister securely tucked into her
arms towards a group of other children. I would miss my sister alot, but I knew it was destined for us to
find our own homes.
The man who was looking at us, before Rosie had interrupted him, approached us once more. I was
completely convinced that he was not interested in me, so, I went to lay
down at the back of the crate. I sighed sadly,
"Why was I born so ugly?" I asked myself
silently as I closed my eyes. But before I could even begin to fall
into a light sleep, I felt myself being lifted by two large, but warm hands. I
opened my eyes only to see a pair of deep blue eyes staring into mine.
I was a little shocked that he had picked me up, when afterall, he had all my
other sisters to chose from.
"I'll take her. She's the best one in the lot." He shook the
seller's hand and paid my ex-owner. I...was the best? Those words
made my heart swell with happiness.
Once the men had said their
thank yous and good byes, my new owner took out a rope and tied it
around my neck. I was terribly excited to finally have my own human
family. I couldn't wait to see my new house ! But, just as I was thinking
about that, my sharp nose caught a scent drifting off the man. I
began to sniff more intently and to think hard about what it was. Since I was only
puppy, I was still learning about how to identify different scents. My
mind filed through all the scents I had encountered in my short life.
My mother, my father, my siblings, my former humans...No...Other dogs.
I was smelling the scent of other dogs. Maybe he owned a few other dogs
or maybe he had just been in contact with some. I began to get nervous,
if there were other dogs, would they like me? I hoped so.
Finally, we came to a stop in front of a beige house. The man
walked up a few stairs, took out a silver key and unlocked the door. He
entered the house and placed me on the floor gently. As soon as I was
on the floor, three beautiful dogs came gracefully trotting in my
direction; all were female. The man then left to another room to let us
get acquainted. The first of the three to address me was a very slim
and quite radiantly beautiful dog with sleek, short fur.
"So, you're the new dog, huh? Aren't you one scruffed up little piece
of scrap." Spat the slim, fawn and white coloured female. The two
other dogs stood behind her silently.
"Y-y-yes..." I stuttered, feeling rather nervous, not to mention hurt. "Wh-what's your names..and wh-who are you?" I asked, trying, but failing miserably to hide my fear.
"My name is Lola, I'm a pure bred Whippet. My bloodline is rich with
champion show dogs." Answered Lola, boasting about herself and her
heritage. She held her nose so high in the air, it actually made her seem taller than she really was. It intimidated me even more.
After her, a second dog spoke, except she had much longer fur and it
was a lovely shade of red. "My name's Teaser, I'm a pure bred Irish
Setter." Teaser said rather quickly, keeping her eyes down as if not wanting to make eye contact.
Lastly, a black and orangish coloured dog stepped forward to introduce herself, she
looked at me with a friendly smile. "My name is Catareena, I'm a pure
bred Doberman."
It seemed to me that Lola was the leader of this small group, I would
definitely have to respect her if I wanted to survive living here. My
thoughts were suddenly interrupted by her.
"Now who are you? And...what are you?" She asked in a rather snobby tone as she wrinkled her nose in disgust.
"My parents gave me the name Kaie and I'm a husky." I answered quietly, hoping my answer would satisfy her.
Lola laughed out loud. "Your breed is pathetic. You are nothing, but work dogs. Brutes."
I flinched at her rude comments, but responded anyways."M-my parents
always taught me that almost all dog breeds were used for work at some
point in time...and they always said that no matter what breed we are,
we should all live together peacefully." I drew in a breath nervously
after I spoke and glanced at the two other dogs. Why weren't they
helping me? I felt like I really needed some sort of support.
"Ha ! That's just what all those work-breeds say. I suppose it makes
them feel better." Lola snapped back at me. "Trust me you little piece
of scrap, you're nothing. I mean look at you, you're fat." She added in
as she prodded my side with her small, delicate paws.
I starred at her, eyes wide. I shrunk myself down into a cowardly crouch. Seconds later, I began to feel hot and embarrassed about
myself. I ran out of the room they were in and began to cry. I had no
idea where I was going, considering this was the first time I was ever
even inside that house. I ran around until I slid to a stop infront of
a mirror. I cocked my head and analyzed my body. I never realized
how...chubby I was. I never really thought about it before, but I now I was.
As I kept on starring at myself, I got a sick feeling in my stomach. I
really didn't like what I was seeing.
