In the Moonlight
A little black puppy is born. The parents are grateful to have such a beautiful baby! But she is different. Why does she have a moonscar on her eye? But who cares? They’re just happy to have a gorgeous daughter!
I run through the forest, ducking under branches, jumping over branches. The wind flowing through my fur like snakes through water. It’s wonderful! I don’t know why my parents make me hide during day, and out at night. They say they are protecting me from males who would steal me away. YEAH RIGHT! I want my own freedom. That’s why I run. I try to escape, but never make it. How?
I stop suddenly. I smell something in the air, iron? No. Water? No. Blood! I spin back around to my den. The scent is coming from their. Its not diner, it’s a different type, like my own! I push my self to my limits. “NO!” I’m thinking. It couldn’t happen already! Is it already hunting season? Not now. It’s still autumn. I see the peak of the mountain I live in. I take it up one more notch. I sprint the last hundred feet. I finally skid to a stop. The den has a crimson red color splashed on the walls. MOTHER, FATHER! And their they are, laying there, my father breathing, but my mother…
“NO!!” I scream. How could this happen, to my family! I ran over to my father.
“PAPA!” I shout. “Papa what happened?!”
He coughs up a little and moves his white head toward my eyes.
“They came… we don’t know for what… go to the elders…. Tender Timber tribes… don’t go near the Canshees…” Then he falls. My father and mother, how could this happen? I fall down into hysteria. How … How??? I then look up, The Canshees tribe. This is there doing. I snarl in frustration. Why though? WHY! I look up to the wonderful sun. I then howl in my sorrow. I snap my head back to realty. I must do my fathers wishing. But, elders for what? Why would he need… then it hit me, the ceremony! It would be my ceremony for my true love! But why would the Canshees want to interrupt our, my ceremony? This is a part of there religion too!
I don’t know how, but I’m getting to the bottom of this. I then look at my parents. I can’t leave them here without a proper burial. But how can I do it by my self? My older siblings are far away. I’m just going to have to seal the passage to our den. Luckily it was only a small entry way. I quickly lay my parents in their sleeping positions. I then say my last words and goodbyes. I then dart to the entrance, and pile rocks and branches in front of it. I then turn to where my path will be leading me. I knew I couldn’t do this journey by my self. But who could help me? I knew no one, for being hidden all these years. But I knew I would find someone, some way.
I ran, keep running. I can’t believe what I did! Destroying a family, looking for a wolf with black and silver hair, and a scar around the eye. So only then my tribes’ alpha male could have a trophy mate. Doesn’t he know what love is? Now I could have caused a war between our allies. That’s why I’m running, running away from this horror! I must find a new pack, or a loner who would take an outcast in. That’s when I heard a yelp, and roar, a bear roar.
I stop in my tracks, to seek out what’s with all the commotion. Besides, someone probably needs help. Aw, why should I help? I’m part of a lying tribe. But I’m an outcast; I can do anything I want! I turn around and dart back to the fight. I can tell I’m close, I can hear the fight closer and closer when I enter a clearing.
I stop to find a bear swipe his paw at a black and silver wolf. They yelp and hit a tree. I charge the bear and grab its gruff and start shaking. He cries in pain and runs off. I smirk in victory. I then turn to the injured wolf. As I walk closer, I can tell it’s a female, small body but strong legs. Her hair was beautifully shining in the light. As I walk closer, I see a scar around the eye, shaped like a moon. “It’s her”! I gasped. She’s more beautiful in person. But then I thought, “I don’t need to run away any more.”
But then it hits me, should I be a traitor and turn her in, or help her and be a traitor to my tribe?
I open my eyes. My head is pounding. I remember a bear, but not a creek. How did I get here? I slowly lift my head to look at my surroundings. I see trees and rocks. What else? I try to get up, but then I hear a voice “Hold on, take it easy now”
I spin around to see a white and black face, with blue eyes. He was built but short. (At least he was taller than me!) He was smiling, a gentle smile. I was stunned. How did I wind up with a …. Handsome male?
It was funny to see her face, stunned, acquired but still beautiful. I didn’t really know what to say. I mean, I couldn’t tell her I was her to sweep her away to a crazy alpha male. What kind of introduction was that?
“Hi, I’m Kent Mountain, but call me Kent for short.”
I look at his handsome face, Kent I wondered, from the Canshee tribe?
“Are you from the Canshee tribe?
“Um, no I’m an outsider, are you from a tribe?”
“Yes, the star gazers tribe. I was the daughter of the alpha male”
His smile turned to a frown.
“What do you mean was?”
“He was recently killed.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, so what is your name?”
“Moonscar, Moons for short.”
“So is there any way I can help you?”
