Soul of the Wolf

Chapter 1 - The Start

The sky was dark. Only the moon provided any ray of light. It was snowing hard with racing wind, leaving the valley barren with ice and snow.

But Fell is not just a regular wolf, he is also a man. People call this creature a werewolf. But unlike most legends of werewolves, he appears as a normal four legged wolf rather than a large, human like monster.

As Fell ran through the forest, he looked around for anything that could serve as a shelter for the night. He also kept an eye out for food, for he had not eaten for about two days. Life was hard for Fell. Since his human self had reached the age of 14, he had been running. Now, he was on his way back to his hometown. Something was calling to him. Something he could not explain.

Fell stopped, and looked ahead. His eyes turned from blue to green as his ability to see in the dark enhanced. Still, he could see almost nothing except snow fall. A twig snapped behind Fell. Fell did not hesitate. He burst off running with incredible speed. If you were to look at him, he would almost seem to be hovering over the ground. Fell rarely took any chances with anything ever since the incident with his family. Fell suddenly picked up a scent. It was a human sent. He could tell it was a hunter. He scurried around to try and find a place to hide. He found a log big enough for him to squeeze inside.

Half an hour past until Fell saw footsteps outside the log. The hunter stayed for only a few minutes before leaving. Fell was dreadfully tired. The log served as a home for the night as sleep overcame him.

Chapter 2 - Love At First Sight

Fell awoke the next morning to the sound of chirping birds. Fell stepped out of the log and shook his fur. Fell let out a long, deep howl to greet the morning. That night (right about the time Fell fell asleep), it has stopped snowing. The snow was about four to five inches deep. Suddenly, howls and yips sounded in the distance. They appeared to be growing closer. Soon, several wolves surrounded Fell. One wolf approached Fell. He has a dark, gray coat of fur, two green eyes, with a scar over the left eye.

"I'm just passing through. If you would prefer, i will leave now." Fell said.

       "What is your name?"

       "Fell. My name is Fell."

"Well, Fell, you better leave before i..." A Large, silver colored wolf quickly walked up to Fell.

"Balkar! Stop! Take the others on the hunt. I'll deal with the trespasser."

“Yes Kar…Move out!” Balkar growled. The other wolves ran into the woods with Balkar.

“I’m sorry about Balkar. What is your name?”

“My name is Fell, how about you?”

“My name is Kar. I’m the alpha male of my pack. Please, come with me.”

Fell followed Kar through the forest for some time. Kar explained everything to Fell. How long the pack has been here, pack members, etc. Fell never responded further than asking an occasional question. They soon came to a large cave.  Kar led Fell inside.

“Fell, I would like to ask you if you would like to join the pack.”

“What?” snarled Fell, “Why do you want me in your pack?”

“Well,” Kar growled, “I can tell who is a fighter when I see them. I judge their soul and read their past. Your past is filled with pain and suffering. It has caused you to grow up to be a true fighter. You would be a good hunter in my pack.”

“Wait a minute…You said you could read my past. How can you do something like that?”

“Fell,” Kar said, “When one becomes one with nature, he or she can do anything.”

   “Sure.” Fell growled.

Kar and Fell soon came to a female wolf on the side of the cave wall. Fell could tell from her swollen belly that she was pregnant.

“How have you been feeling Brassa?” Kar growled.

“I’m just fine. Who’s your friend?” Brassa asked

“This is Fell. Be sure to make the rest of the pack treat him like any other pack member. Okay?” Kar nuzzled Brassa.

“Yes Kar. You need your rest; you’ve been out all day.” Growled Brassa.

“I’ll get my rest tonight. But today, I’m trying to get a new member.”

“Kar, you really don’t want me in your pack. You don’t know me.” Fell said.

“Fell, what could possibly go wrong?”

Fell stared toward the cave mouth. “A lot.” Fell growled, "If i joined your pack, so much would go wrong. Besides, I’m traveling. I can't stay here."

"Oh, but you must. You don't have to join our pack, but i do persuade you to stay. A snow storm is coming tonight. Stronger than the one last night."

"Fine," Growled Fell, "I will stay until the storm passes. But i will not join the pack."

"Even though you are not of the pack, i will make sure you are treated like a member."

      "Thanks..." Fell growled.

The rest of the pack had come to the cave at twilight. They brought with them a huge deer carcass. Kar and Brassa got to eat first, and then the rest of the pack ate. Fell did not eat, for fear of disturbing the packs natural order. Once Kar had finished eating, he brought a big piece of the deer to Fell.

"It's the least i can do. I wasn't sure if the rest of the pack would be comfortable with you eating with them, so i brought you this."

"Thank you..." Fell said. He began to eat the meat kar had brought him. Kar walked over to Brassa and laid beside her. The deer meat Fell was eating tasted so pure. The taste of the blood stung inside Fells mouth. This is the best deer I’ve ever tasted... Fell thought.

Once Fell was finished eating, he followed Kar to meet the rest of the pack.

"Everyone," Kar growled, “This is Fell. He will be staying with us until the current storm passes. I expect him treated like any other member of the pack." Kar then walked deeper into the cave. The wolves just talked with each other, and ignored Fell. Fell didn't mind. He just laid beside the cave wall.

A few hours past, and no one had come up to talk to Fell. This changed when a beautiful white wolf approached Fell.

"I see you’re not the social type, eh?" The wolf said.

"Not very," Fell replied, "What is your name?"

"Lera, and you are Fell. Right?"

     "Yes," Fell growled.

"Fell, want to go for a walk?" Lera asked "Tell each other about ourselves?"

     "Sure." Fell growled.

Lera and Fell journeyed into the forest. On their walk, Lera told Fell all about herself, and Fell did the same. Fell and Lera were very alike. They seemed to like the same things. Fell enjoyed walking with her. She seemed very fine. She has beautiful white fur, and purple eyes that seemed to glitter in the light. Fell had fallen in love with someone. But did Lera feel the same way?

"Fell, let me take you to my favorite place in the valley. Okay?"

     "Okay." Fell replied.

Lera took Fell deeper into the forest. Eventually, they came to a small pond.

“Take a drink Fell.” Lera said.

Fell walked to the pond, and lowered his head to take a drink. When the water touched Fells tongue, he could see in his head a snowfall over the mountains.

Fell looked at Lera. “That water was so cold and pure. Best water I ever drank.”

“I thought so,” Lera said. “Hey, do you want to go for a swim?”

“Swim?” Fell asked. “The water is freezing!”

“Follow me…” Lera said. Lera jumped into the water. The ripples that the splash emitted seemed to sparkle. Fell watched for Lera to resurface, but she did not. Fell then
