Balto the Puppy

Balto was talking to Aleu about her wolf heritage. Aleu had apparently run away for awhile to have time alone from just figuring that she is part wolf. After she had left, Balto had a flashback when he was just a young pup. When he said, “Accidentally separated” Balto actually meant it. So the flashback came back………………………………..

*flashback*

Aniu was alone with her three pups on the outskirts of Nome. She was lying under a very tall, bristly pine tree, and the tree covered them from the snow. The snow was falling in a sluggish way, and it felt like the holiday Christmas. Even though there wasn’t a holiday, or even near one. The three pups were born a couple days ago, and Aniu given them some names. A black puppy with amber eyes and white paws was named Shine. She was the youngest, and she was very playful. The second oldest was a pup named Takoda. She had white fur like her mother, Aniu. Also, she has golden eyes with black ear tips and paws. This puppy was very quiet and shy. Next, you have the oldest puppy out of the litter. He was a brown, scruffy puppy with beautiful yellowish, brown- gold eyes. He was very playful, but the sweetest one of the bunch. His mother Aniu didn’t know what to name him, but there was plenty of time, because he was only a couple days old. The puppies were still having their eyes closed, and they cuddled with their mother. Aniu was thinking about her love, James. James was a gorgeous, pure breed husky. His fur was dark brown, and his eyes were a bright blue color. Aniu kept missing her love very dearly. James was killed in a dog fight. Since he had puppies with a wolf, the dogs went crazy, so they attacked him. Aniu shivered at the thought, but she smelled something in the air. She sniffed a couple times, and the scent was human. It was probably a hunter, so she took her pups one by one to a safer place. Time was running out, and Aniu left the scruffy, brown pup behind near the pine tree. Luckily, the hunter didn’t notice the little puppy covered with snow.

*eight weeks later*

The little, brown wolf- pup was walking in the allies searching for food. He had no where to go since many shop owners had kicked him out for sneaking in. The puppy was confused at what was going on at first, but then he realized it. Since he was part wolf, many people are scared and dislike those animals, all except for one. A little seven year old girl named Rosie never judged the little pup. One day she walked up to him, saying, “I know what to name you! Balto is perfect!” she had gotten the name Balto from her favorite explorer Samuel Balto. The scruffy pup wagged its tail in a pleasingly way. Wow! I never had a name before! Thought the little pup in his mind. Then, Rosie’s dad picked her up and said in a worry, “Get away from him sweetie. He’s part wolf, so he might attack you.” A person had over heard the conversation, and then replied, “I heard he had attacked a person before! I heard this from my friends!” crowds of people started to agree, so they all kicked snow at him. Balto tripped, and they all started to laugh hysterically. “Why does everyone hate me?” mumbled Balto as he saw himself in a reflection of a puddle. He was in the allies again, and hardly anyone came there but him. As he saw his reflection, he stared at himself in a confused way. He cocked his head side to side wondering, why am I part wolf? He felt very gloomy in his thoughts. He walked over the puddle, and a splash was made. Then, he heard a noise around somewhere in the allie. Then, a black and white figure dashed past him. It was a pure, blue eyed malamute. It was sturdy, and muscular for its size. Balto shouted, “Hey! Who are you?” The malamute turned around and replied, “My name is Steele, and I am playing hide and seek with my friend Kaltag, Nikki, and Star. Have you seen them?” Balto shook his head in a way of saying no. “Oh well. So who are you?” Balto said proudly from his given name, “My name is Balto! And I’m part wolf!” Steele studied him from looking up and down. “So you’re that wolf-pup I had heard about. Just one thing…..” paused Steele. “Are you going to kill me?” “No…….” Balto said as he cocked his head. “Then GREAT! You could join me and my friends today at the town square! We are going to have a race to see who the fastest dog is.” Balto grinned. He had never been invited to anything before, nor ever had friends. “Okay! What time?” he said as he jumped up and down. “Um, right now it is starting, so let’s go!” So the two ran to the town square. When they arrived, all raced around the little town. Steele was in the lead, but then Balto catch up with him. Then, Balto was going past him, and he ran over the finish line that they made up. “Yay! I won! Steele, you were really good too.” Steele looked like he was going to explode with anger. “I should have won! Not you, you wolf pup!” He said in anger. Balto looked disappointed. His ears flopped down, and he walked away from his first friend that doesn’t like him anymore. “You just wanted to beat me, because I’m part wolf!” shouted the little puppy of Balto. Steele looked at him with craziness in his eyes. “Your right! But next time I will beat you, and I will become that famous sled dog of Nome!” His voice echoed in Balto’s thoughts. “Be a famous sled dog? Pssshhh! Like that would ever happen! Or would it…………” Balto paused. Steele could be a sled dog, because he was a pure breed malamute. “Maybe he would be that famous sled dog some day, but some day I will too! And I will prove everybody that I can, no matter if I am part wolf or not! I mean, I am part husky, so being a sled dog is in my blood probably!” said Balto in more of a cheer- up voice. When Balto was walking toward the boiler room (the boiler room was like a playground to puppies during that time) he saw a cute, little girl husky with her friends. He walked toward them and said, “Hi! I’m Balto! What’s your guy’s name?” The three girl pups looked at him awkwardly. They saw his big paws and his little scrawny body. “My name is Jenna.” Said one of the red pups with a smile. “I’m Dixie!” said a really small dog, who was an American Eskimo. “And I’m Sylvie!” said a very tall afghan. “You have big paws!” said Dixie in amazement. “What kind of dog are you?” said Sylvie. “I’m a mixed breed!” said Balto with a smile. “What kind of breed?” said the little, red husky. Balto hesitated, thinking they would not like him if he is a wolf. “Um, I’m a husky, and…………..” “And what else?” asked Dixie with curiosity. “And…………… wolf.” They blankly stared at him. “Are you going to eat me?” said Jenna. “Never………” Balto said with a grin. “Well, we have to go now Balto.” Said Jenna as she and her friends were walking out of the boiler room. Balto grinned happily. For the rest of the day and night, he stayed in the boiler as a home so far.
