Kodi’s Love

It was a snowy day in Nome and Kodi was out sleeping by his father’s boat. Then all of sudden he heard Mr. Simpson the mushier of the mail team. Mr. Simpson was looking for Kodi because it was his first day on the job. They had to deliver some mail to White Mountain. Mr. Simpson cam up to him and said, come on we’re late.

 

 

 

So Kodi and Mr. Simpson went to the sled were the other dogs were already tied. That when Kodi saw the prettiest husky he ever saw. Then Mr. Simpson started to introduce the team. He said, Kodi this is the team Flight, Cairo, Titan and Dusty. Then Mr. Simpson strapped Kodi in and they were off.

 

 

Kodi was surprised when he was put second from lead position, which was Titans position. Part way through the trip Titan and Kodi began to talk.

 

 

Titan: So kid you think you can handle this job.

Kodi: I think I can.

Titan: Well then you got a long career ahead of you.

Kodi: Thanks I think.

 

 

When they finally got to White Mountain they had some down time. So they sat down and Kodi got to know the team. Kodi learned a lot about the team Titan used to be a world famous racer. Flight was a stray that Mr. Simpson found and took in. Cairo was found on the side of the road bleeding and Dusty was 2 months old when Mr. Simpson found her.

 

 

Kodi: So you all have been through a lot.

Team: Ha.

Kodi: Wow.

Kodi: But Titan what happened with your racing career I mean why aren’t you racing any more.

Titan: One race another dog cut me off and I went right into a side pole broke a few ribs.

Kodi: So that ended your career what about you Cairo.

Cairo: Attacked by a bear.

Kodi: Wow.

Kodi: Flight.

Flight: My parents died when I was a month old and then Simpson over there took me in.

Kodi: That’s umm wow well how bout you Dusty.

Dusty: Don’t want to talk about it.

 

 

Then before Kodi could say anything Mr. Simpson yelled time to go. So they got tied up and they were off. Then half way through the trip the team was running next to a gully. When Titan yelled watch out then a piece of the gully fell of taking Kodi and Dusty with it. There was nothing Mr. Simpson could do so he head back to town with the rest of the to get help.

At the bottom of the gully Kodi awoke under snow he started pushing his nose to the top. Finally Kodi got out of the snow and looked around and he saw Dusty’s paw above the snow. He rushed to her and started digging until he finally reached her. He grabbed a hold of her and dragged her out of the snow. Kodi dropped her and her eye’s blotted open and she took a deep breath.

 

 

Kodi: Are you ok.

Dusty: I think so but where are we.

Kodi: At the bottom of a deep gully.

Dusty: What do we do now.

Kodi: Try to find are way out

 

 

They started walking they way they were running when the were on top of the gully. It was getting dark so they found a cave to sleep in. That night when both of them were sleeping Kodi heard something. They tool a look outside the cave and saw a full-grown bear. The bear then lunged at Dusty but Kodi was able to stop it.

 

 

Kodi then lunged for the bears arm and just bit down and held as hard as he could. Then the bear got Kodi off and thru him into the gully wall. Kodi got up and jumped the bear while Dusty went for the legs. The bear got her and thru across the gully and she was out cold. The bear thru Kodi off again and went for Dusty again. Kodi then jumped on the bear and took a bite of the bear’s neck.

 

 

The bear thru him off and ran away Kodi got up and went to check Dusty.

 

 

Kodi: Are you ok.

Dusty: Ya lets get out of here.

Kodi: Good idea lets go.

Dusty: Right.

 

 

They stared running down the gully when Dusty said.

 

 

Dusty: Thanks for saving my life.

Kodi: It was nothing I just didn’t want you getting hurt.

Dusty: That real nice of you Kodi you know what your kind of cute.

 

 

Then after Dusty said that they both stopped and they saw another cave and went inside because it was still dark. They sat down and looked at each other.

 

 

Kodi: So you think I’m cute.

Dusty: Ya your very cute

Kodi: (Blushed)

 

 

Dusty then came up and started to nuzzle him and they did for a few minutes. Then Kodi laid down and then Dusty laid up against him. Then that night Dusty became pregnant. The next morning the weather was kind of bad but they were still on the move. In Nome hope was running dry for Balto and Jenna and all the other dogs.

 

 

Finally after three days he could take seeing Jenna cry every night so he took action sense the humans couldn’t do anything do to the weather. So Balto set out the next morning to find his son. He came to the path were Kodi and Dusty fell he looked down and saw nothing. Then Balto sat down and looked at the ground for a while.

 

 

Then he heard someone or something coming toward him. He went to the edge and then saw Kodi come crawling out and then Dusty. They fell on the ground were Balto just stood.

 

 

Balto: Are you two ok.

Both: Ya.

Balto: You’re late.

Kodi: I’m late your late dad.

Dusty: Dad.

Kodi: Ya Balto’s my dad.

Dusty: Nice to meet you.

Balto: Same now come on your mother is worry sick.

 

 

Now all three were heading home for Nome and after an hour or so they were in Nome. The first one to now they were back was Jenna she ran to Kodi and nuzzled him and then Balto. After Jenna found out word spread fast that the two dogs were back. Three months past and Dusty gave birth to five health pups. Kodi and Dusty had two female and three male.

 

 

The pups were named Carna, Martha, Rex, Carth and Brian a week passed. Balto and Kodi were sitting with each other and talking about the last month.

 

 

Balto: So son how’s being father going.

Kodi: Good the kids are doing great.

Balto: Good and how’s Dusty.

Kodi: She’s doing well too.

Balto: So you two are going to stay together.

Kodi: Ya.

Balto: Well that’s great son stuff is going good for you and I’m happy.

 

 

Kodi ended up continuing his mail career but Dusty was retired by Mr. Simpson. The other dogs stayed with Kodi and they still delivered mail. Kodi and Dusty stayed together and had two more litters. They would spend the rest of their lives together.
