It seemed like a regular cold day in Nome. It was lightly snowing and a snowshoe hare was hoping through the snow in search of food when suddenly the ground rumbled and the ice cracked. Startled the hare ran away.

Meenwhile in Nome

"Come on Boris try to keep up!" said Balto.

"Easy for you to say! You have four feet!" answered Boris.

"I don't want to miss the opening of the new mine they're making!" said Balto.

"So what is this mine anyways?" asked Boris.

"Well they found out there was copper in the ground so they're making a small copper mine." replied Balto.

"Huh. I'll never understand why humans like colourful rocks so much." said Boris.

"Stop whining lets go!" said Balto.

In their haste to get to town they did not notice the ground crack and rumble beneath thier feet.

"It is my pleasure to anounce the Nome mine open!" shouted a man. "We will begin tunneling in a few days or so."

The crowd cheered and applauded.

"And now let the fair comemorating the event begin!" shouted the man.

There was another wild cheer as music started to play and foodstands and other things opened.

"Mm mm just smell that Boris. Theres lots of good food laying around here!" said Balto as he ran off into the crowd.

"Yes go lose yourself in the fun." yelled Boris.

Meenwhile not far outside town Rosie and some friends were playing. Jenna was there to.

"Tag your it!" shouted Rosie.

"I'll get you for that hahaha!" replied her friend.

"You can't catch me!" said another.

After awhile they tired themselves out. Jenna sat there watching them.

"What shall we play now?" asked a friend.

"I know lets play hide and go seak." said Rosie. "Everyone come togeather so we can chose who will be it."

As the girls crowded togeather there was a sudden cracking and splitting noise. Then suddenly the ground opened and the girls fell through. Shocked Jenna instantly took off towards town.

Meenwhile admist the all the festivities Balto had found something to entertain himself. There was a game a few children had invented were one would throw a disc at another and the the kid would either avoid getting hit by it or attempt to catch it. The disc swerved and never flew in a straight line so you never knew where it would go. What Balto enjoyed was when a kid attempted to catch it but it flew just out of his or her reach. Then he would spring in, grab the disc, and pretty soon the whole group would chase him.

Boris was also enjoying himself. After finding Muk and Luk the three of them teamed up and stole anything that was left unchecked by the other people. Although Boris was there to make sure Muk and Luk didn't get into any trouble, he found it fun waching them attempt to be stealthy only they would just make fools of themselves.

At the end of the day Balto had met up with Boris, Muk and Luk and were on their way home. Suddenly out of nowhere Balto was tackled by fast red blur which sent him flying and crashing into the other three. When he regained his senses he found Jenna standing ontop of him. Before he could say anything or get up Jenna suddenly started talking rapidly.

"Rosie and some of her friends were playing not to far from town when they suddenly fell through the ground! There was no water just a dark a pit! I don't know what happened to them!" said Jenna tiredly.

She looked down at Balto who was looking blue in the face.

"Whats wrong with you?" she asked impatiently.

"Your..." wheezed Balto. "Standing... on my... chest."

When Jenna realized this she jumped off of him. Gasping for air Balto managed to stand up.

"So your saying Rosie and some of her freinds fell through the ground?" Balto managed to say.

"You think they would not see hole first." said Boris.

"It isn't like that! The ground just suddenly broke open under them" said Jenna.

"Thats horrible!" said Muk. "It must be very scary for them."

Luk sounded in agreement.

"I'm worried." said Jenna. "They might be hurt and unable to climb out."

"Don't worry Jenna." said Balto. "We'll find a way to help them."

Meenwhile in town...

"Rosie! Jenna!" shouted Rosie's father.

He looked around. It was getting late and their was no sign of either of them.

"I'm worried." said Rosie's mother. "Its not like Rosie to be gone so long and if something happened to her then where's Jenna?"

Suddenly they heard the sound of barking. Then Jenna apeared.

"Jenna!" shouted both parents.

They ran outside to greet her.

"Where is Rosie?" asked her father.

Jenna barked at them then ran ahead a few paces.

"She must want us to follow her" said Rosie's mother.

Jenna barked then lead them. When they arrived to the large fissure (crack) in the ground both of Rosies parents gasped.

"You mean she is down there?" said Rosie's father. Jenna barked.

"This terrible!" he said. "It explains why her friends are missing to! We gotta let everyone know about this."

Meenwhile at the mine. Some miners were hitting different areas of rock and soil to test it. Little did they know they were weakening the ice and ground.

Deep underground...

Silent, dark and feeling alone. This is what Rosie awoke to. She was dazed and her legs were in pain. She had little feeling in her right arm. She tried to get up but  found herself burried under ice, rock and snow.

"Is anyone there?" she cried out.

"Theres no need to shout." replied her friend Sarah weakly.

"Sarah are you ok? I can't see you." asked Rosie.

"I can't walk but I'm alright. Someone's leg is ontop of me." answered Sarah poking it.

"That would be my leg." said Marry another one of Rosie's friends.

"Marry are you alright?" asked both Sarah and Rosie.

"I'm fine, but my arm hurts." replied Marry.

"Where are we?" asked Sarah.

"All I remember is us gathering aorund to chose who would be it for hide and go seak when suddenly the ground broke." said Rosie.

"Well lets look on the bright side. At least we are all togeather." said Marry.

"Yeah. I just hope we get rescued soon." said Rosie looking up.

The next day...

"Attention! Could I have everyone's attention please?" shouted a man. "I'm sure your all aware of the fact that there are children down there! We have attempted a direct rescue but the ground is to unstable! We have decide the best way in is to start near the naturally forming cave system near the mine and attempt a rescue from there. May we hope the team finds them."

There was a clamouring as everyone attempted to ask the man questions.

Deep underground... again...

Balto and a team of handpicked dogs were aiding in the search for the missing girls. They were pulling three sleds to carry the girls on.

"This place seems to go on forever." said Star.

The ground rumbled slightly.

"Shh. Careful what you say. This entire place could cave in." said Balto.

"Slow down boys." said thier musher quietly.

As the sled slowed to a stop it bumped into Niki, who knocked Star off balance causing him to step rather hardly on Kaltag's tail. Kaltag yelped in the pain. Suddenly the entire cave rumbled and roared.

"Mush!" yelled their musher as he spoted a large cloud of dust and ruble racing towards them.

Instantly the dogs took off down the tunnel as they were being chased by ruble wich grew closer and closer. Then as quickly as it started it stopped. Taking some time to look around they realized they were in a massive cavern. At the center there was a pile of rocks and rumble and the missing girls! they all ran over to them.

"Who's that?" asked Sarah weakly.

"Hurray! We're saved!" said Marry.

"This is wonderful." cried Rosie.

"Yes but their is one problem." said the musher. "The way we came caved in so we need to find another way out."

It took awhile but all three girls were dug out and gently lowered onto the three sleds.

"Mush!" said the musher and the dogs went off down a different tunnel.

Five hours later...

Balto sniffed the air.

"Hey I think I found the way out!" he said excitedly.

Before the dogs could take another step however the musher orered them to stop.

"Looks like we'll have to set a small camp team." he said.

Sitting down he started a fire and everyone huddled around. Balto did not like it he had smelled something funny in the air. Not just a way out but something else.

"What's that strange smell?" asked Rosie.

The musher sniffed the air then he noticed the fire start to flare brightly.

"Thats natural gas!" he said alarmed.

He quickly got the sleds moving again. Not far behind was a huge flare of fire growing closer and closer every second. Then Balto saw it. There was an exit just up ahead. Putting on an extra burst of speed they managed to run through the entrance then veer to left just in time to avoid the blast of flames that rushed out the exit.

The next day...

Balto was on his way home. He was looking forward to a long rest after all the hard work. He was talking with Boris when he saw Jenna running up to them.

"Hi Jenna how is Rosie." he asked.

"She is feeling fine and so are her friends. She has some broken bones but they will heal soon." said Jenna.

"That is good to hear." said Boris.

"Well its time we got going right Boris? Muk and Luk are probally wondering whats taking so long." said Balto. "Bye Jenna."

"Bye Balto." she replied.
