Description : A human comes across a den where a mother wolf lies dead, killed while defending her children from a mountain lion. The man hears the whinning of pups and finds a litter of five two and a half week old pups. Knowing they would only perish, the man begins to draw his knife. Then a shadow fills the mouth of the den and another she-wolf enters. She whines pleadingly to the human, asking not to kill the pups...for she is barren...and has none of her own....
