My Heritage

It was upon this rock I was born
Sleek and white
Like my mother and father before
Along with my brothers and siblings in the season of spring
The wind was soft as was the grass and the water that flowed in the river below
Blue was the sky
The same color of our eyes
The feeling…was gratifying
We were a playful and rough, my kin and I were
Much to our parents’ horror
Many a day would we tug at their limbs, pull on their fur
And choke the life out of them with our little teeth
They endured our harassment until their endurance ran out
Then they would run yipping and crying for mercy
My kin and I would always give chase
For we knew they would always return
Our bones lengthened and our muscles massed
Our muzzles grew as did our fur
My brothers became strong and handsome
While my sisters and I became sleek and beautiful
We are a pack
A pack of wolves who truly love each other
Among the wolves there is no such thing as an orphan
I am a wolf
A she-wolf, slender, white and beautiful
I am proud of my heritage
