gathered in the cage. ‘Why is everyone here?’ Aryan said looking down at Keana.
‘The Vereor moved us…’
‘Yes the men are coming and they didn’t want any of us to be freed so they moved us and stuffed us in here. Save the easy meals and future Vereor no doubt.’ Caelum finished sitting down.
‘I have someone I want you to met Aryan…’ Astra said in an almost whisper as she disappeared in to the crowd of wolves who said nothing but just stared at the group near the door.
‘Who is she?’ Keana said looking after Astra who quickly disappeared in to the mass.
‘She’s a friend why?’ Aryan asked looking down at Keana, who rolled her eyes before saying,
‘She’s crazy.’ Looking down at his niece Aryan just frowned but didn’t get to say anything because Astra soon returned with an elderly looking wolf who looked very frail and tired.
‘This is Sagci.’ Astra said smiling up at the old wolf who sat down and looked at Aryan who was a little confused.
‘Hello?’ Aryan said looking at Astra who was still staring up at Sagci with bright eyes.
‘No respect these young wolves!’ Sagci said in a frail voice staring coldly at Aryan who looked taken back.
‘Tell him what you told me.’ Astra said for the first time looking away from Sagci and up at Aryan who moved a little closer so he could hear the old wolf a little better.
‘I know how we can defeat these…’
‘Be quiet!” Aryan suddenly said loudly causing all the wolves sitting down to gasp in shock. ‘They can see us the Vereor they’ll know what were saying.’ Aryan said quickly hoping he didn’t cause too much disrespect as he looked back at Sagci hoping he’d understand.
‘Listen everyone...’ Sagci said closing his eyes as Astra did the same. Taking a deep breath Aryan listen intently but all he could hear was the distant sound of gunfire.
‘I can hear gunfire but…’ Aryan was interrupted when Sagci opened his eyes and began to talk.
‘The Vereor will be too busy fighting to watch or listen to what we are saying so it’s now or never you young pup.’
‘Please go on.’ Aryan said respectfully as he stepped back as Caelum, Astra, Aryan and Keana all huddled close.
‘To defeat these monsters we must use there greatest power against them. They have superior hearing power then yell as loud as you can and hurt them, they’re large so outrun them, they have amazing smell so go somewhere with too many scents and confuse them.’ Sagci said looking up at Aryan who smiled as everything he was saying seemed so obvious and so brilliant at the same time.
‘They have trouble seeing in broad daylight…’ Aryan said smiling.
‘Then don’t fight inside in the dark go into the sunlight where they have trouble seeing.’ Sagci finished.
‘Whoa wait a minute!’ Caelum said stepping back and shaking his head. ‘Are you saying us mere wolves fight what even man cannot defeat!?’
‘What else can we do? Wait till we get killed or go crazy?’ Keana said glancing at Astra who didn’t seem to notice.
‘How can we even get out of these cages, those Vereor are huge we’d be killed.’ Caelum said shaking his head and sitting down.
‘We use my plan for that.’ Aryan said turning to look at Astra who smiled.
‘If we play scared and wait for them to come to us all we need to do is wait for them to come inside the cage then attack them…play the scared foolish wolves.’ Aryan said confidently.
‘If you haven’t noticed we are all scared!’ Caelum said turning around to look at all the wolves who were huddled in to the dark but were listening intently to what they were saying. Following Caelum’s glance Aryan looked at all the wolves before stepping forward and looking at them as the sound of gunshots still echoed in the background.
‘I need you all to listen to me!’ Aryan said in a loud voice as the wolves in the shadows all looked at him but didn’t say anything. ‘I know you all must be scared because I’m not going to lie so I’m going to tell you that I’m also scared. I came here looking for my family and found they all except for one had been killed. The Vereor I’m sure have hurt all of you and they have hurt me but unless we do something we’ll be killed. If we stay here we’ll turn into them but if you help me then maybe we can make a difference instead of dying in vain…’
‘So you’re saying if we help you we’re just going to die anyway?’ One voice yelled out his voice shaking as Astra stepped forward.
‘We could be the last wolves alive and what good are we all as Vereor? Now you have a choice either become one of them or fight for our freedom and die in dignity rather then dying as pathetic scared wolves’
‘Were not going to force you to help us but if you want to Sagci will tell you what’s going to happen.’ Aryan said turning to Sagci who stepped forward.
‘We have little time so listen carefully…’
Part 6
That night long after the gunshots had ceased and the plan had been told all the wolves fast asleep except for Aryan was lying beside the glass door looking at his reflection. What ever happened tomorrow he knew that the end result meant he was going to end up alone he wasn’t sure why but deep inside he knew that this was going to be his last night on Earth but the life he had missed he knew was going to be lived twice fold by the generations that would follow if they managed to stop Parvus and the Vereor.
His life had many happy moments, the first time he had looked into his mothers eyes, playing with his siblings, returning to his home and being free if only for a week of his life, finding his niece and giving hoping to others.
‘What are you thinking?’ Astra said in her soft voice as she walked over and laid down beside Aryan who looked at her with a smile.
‘All the happy moments in my life because that’s all I want to think about.’
‘After tomorrow we will hopefully have many more…’ Astra said as Aryan smiled a little at her despite his eyes looking at little hurt. ‘…I know you think I’m crazy.’ She suddenly said looking away from him.
‘I don’t!’ Aryan said in shock as she turned back around and looked at him.
‘Some people call me crazy simply because I dream of a better life, a life outside these walls.’ She looked up at the four walls all around her. ‘Some times wolves mistake craziness for dreams this is because they simply believe some dreams are crazy…but a wolfs dreams are never crazy…’
‘Tomorrow you will be free, free from The Vereor and free from man perhaps tomorrow we can achieve one dream.’ Aryan said smiling at her as she looked back at him returning one of her own.
‘Tell me one dream you wish for tomorrow.’ Astra said softly as Aryan sighed and smilied to himself.
‘To see the stars again…’ Aryan said as the two remained quiet as they looked at their reflection the mirror.
The quiet of the night was so peaceful and as Aryan slowly closed his eyes he could see the twinkling stars that he used to be able to see from his cage window when he was in the mans world. The billions of lights shining down on him, showing him to way, reminding him who he was and that whilst the stars in the sky shone for him he knew he would never truly be alone…not any more.
Opening his eyes he turned to Astra who was sleeping soundly beside him and as he looked down at her he knew that he had his own
