just kept trying to bite Dash, pushing on the wire even harder. Dash watched dumbfounded as the electricity began to burn through the wolf, smoke started rising off of its muzzle. Finally it seemed to realize that it was burning and yelped. It backed of the wire, and set down in the corner. It’s white hair was cooked black on it’s face. “Oookay,” he said, turning to Balto, “what was that?” “I don’t know,” Balto said. He seems to be… mad. “Get out of here!” They heard a female voice say. “Whoever you’re looking for it’s too late for them.” All three of them turned to see a beautiful golden colored wolf. Suddenly she ran at the cage door. Again sparks flew as she touched it. She stayed there though, not attacking them, just keeping herself on the wires. She yelped again and again as the electricity flew through her. Soon her beautiful coat began to melt. Balto shut his eyes and Flash and Dash looked away as her yelps turned in to one long gurgling sound. Then she fell silent. Her body fell off of the cage and it lay there, smoking. Balto could smell burnt flesh and it nearly made him throw-up. He looked at what remained of the wolf. It wasn’t pretty. “Shoo,” Timbre said, as he walked closer to the cage. “What a way to go.” “This place is getting stranger by the minute,” Dash said. “We need to get out of here.” Balto walked over to the cage. “I wonder what would make her do that?” He said aloud. “I don’t know, Dash said, “but I don’t really want to find out.” Balto just stared at the wolf’s burnt smoldering body. He was unable to take his eyes off of the grisly sight. “Balto, I think Dash is right,” Timbre said. “Let’s just find Aleu and get out of here. Then they heard a scream. “What was that?” Dash asked. Balto just started walking in the direction of the scream, They found a small room on the other side of the barn. Then they heard another scream. It was female also. Balto climbed up on a box to see through the window. He saw five men with silver poles that had a blue glow on the end of them. One of the men jabbed the blue glow into the wolf’s side. She was black. She screamed again and curled into a ball as all five of the men gathered around her. Then she jumped up, and bit the nearest man on the arm. “Ahh,” he screamed. As she savagely tore at his arm, get her off a me! One of the men drew his gun, but his friend stopped him. He picked up the wooden baseball bat in the corner. “Ha Ha Ha!” The black wolf screamed, “how do you like pain. Today I’m free!” She never saw what hit her. The man swung the bat as hard as he could and hit her in the side of the head. Balto heard something crack and the wolf flew through the air and hit the wall. Balto watched, completely helpless as the man whose arm she had torn got up, picked up his rifle and jacked a shell into the chamber. He walked over to the wolf, who tried to stand, but fell down. He put the rifle to her head. Balto saw a tear roll out of her eyes as he looked away… a loud BooM! reverberated through the barn. All was silent for a moment. “All right,” Timbre said, as the men left. “I say we find Aleu and get out of here.” Dash nodded, unable to speak. Balto got down off of the boxes and walked into the room. The wolf was still there, or what was left of her anyway. Balto thought it odd that though he hadn’t even known her name, her death saddened him greatly. “Balto, come on,” Timbre said from outside the room. “Let’s go find Aleu.” “I’m sorry,” said, then he did something strange. He knelt down and nuzzled her. “Balto what are you doing?” Timbre said, “come on. Balto looked at the black wolf, somehow he felt connected to her, like he should know her. He felt her blood on his muzzle. He thought back, and remembered something about a black wolf…
“Kyla,” he said, “her name was Kyla.” “What how do you know that Dad?” Dash asked. “She… She was one of the wolves around Nome. I knew her before I met your mother. We used to play all the time, Balto smiled remembering. She saved my life once.” “Dad,” Dash said, “I don’t mean to be rude, but we are stuck in a madhouse here, let’s find Aleu, then we can talk about Kyla. Balto left the room. He and Timbre followed Dash. “Look there she is!” He said. Sure enough Aleu was in the cage in front of them. She was sleeping. “Aleu?” Balto said as he began to walk towards her. “Dad, no,” Dash said as he jumped on Balto knocking him down. “What are you doing?” Balto whispered to him. “Shadow said to come back when we’d found her, we can’t risk getting hurt, not now, we need to pass on our information to the pack.” “Dash she’s my daughter, I can’t just leave her in a place like this.” “Dad Shadow is the leader..” Balto cut him off “I’m not a member of the pack, I’m going to save her.” “No, Dash said, “we will, but we need the rest of the pack, we can’t take all of these guys.” Balto looked at his daughter. “Dad she’s okay for now,” We’ll come back in the morning , come on.” Balto got up, “Okay he said, let’s go.” The three of them snuck back outside and linked up with Flash and Lika, then the five of them headed back to tell the pack.
Aleu was woken up by the sound of the cage door opening. Oh great, she thought, not again. They dropped the net over her head and drug her out of the cage, once again she fought. Never will I give up! She thought. Then she noticed that they weren’t taking her in the direction of the room. She wondered where they were taking her, could they be setting her free? No, Aleu thought, they wouldn’t do that. Then she saw a man standing by another cage, the door was open. The men threw her into it. “What should we do with this one?” The man who had opened the cage said. “Ehh Throw it in there too,” he said. “He’s too young to be of much use to us anyhow.” The man picked up a sack and dumped a small wolf, about the size of Aleu’s own children into the cage. He was still out. “Must’ve just captured you,” She said. She wondered where his family was, then decided she probably didn’t want to know. The cage she was in now was pretty big, a lot bigger than the other one. She heard a low, deep growl. She turned and saw two wolves advancing on her. She instinctively stepped back. She knew aggression when she saw it. “Take it easy guys,” she said. They just snarled at her. Then they looked at the pup. They backed away from Aleu and walked over to him. One of them barked at the unmoving pup the other just laughed. Aleu suddenly ran over and slid under the wolves. She grabbed the pup by the scruff of his neck and pulled him to safety. The wolf looked angry at having his “toy” stolen and turned to Aleu. “He’s just a pup,” she said, pleading. The wolf snarled and leapt at her, catching her off guard. She wet down pretty hard and the wolf tried to bite her belly. She kicked him in the face and regained her feet. The two stepped forward together. “I don’t want to fight you.” The smaller one attacked her. He was fast and Aleu, though she was a good fighter, had trouble avoiding his strikes. She finally saw an opening and took it. Hitting him right in the face. The hit was solid and the wolf went flying through the air, bouncing once, then lying very still. The bigger one looked at her, shook it’s head several times, then he walked over to his friend and the two laid down in the corner. Aleu walked over to where the young wolf still lay, but his eyes were open. “Thank-you,” he said groggily then he fell back asleep. She laid down beside him, determined to keep at least this one from harm.
It was later that afternoon when Aleu was woken up by someone nudging her insistently. “Wake up, wake up, wake up!” The young pup said “Aleu opened her eyes. To see him standing over her. “That was so cool this morning when you took those wolves, I woke up about the time that wolf was gonna eat me, I just knew that was the end, but then you swooped and Wow you are so cool how did you learn to fight like that have you been in many battles, I want to be a fighter just like my…” the pup stopped rambling. “What’s wrong Aleu asked, wondering how anyone could talk that fast about that many different things. “just like my mother.” The pup said soflty. Aleu felt bad for the pup. She knew what had probably happened. “What’s your name,” she said. “Th…Thunder,” he said, trying to hold back tears. “Thunder,” Aleu said, ”why don’t you come over here and tell me what happened. Thunder sat down next to Aleu. “What’s your name?” he asked. “My name is Aleu,” she said “ Well Aleu, Me and my mom were out hunting, she is the best hunter fighter in the world,” he said, “anyway, she was teaching me how to do it. Then we heard something. I heard something it was a loud ratchet kind of sound. My mom took off running, I didn’t know why, she just said run! Then took off. I stayed there, wondering what she was doing, then I heard a loud sound and she fell. I yelled her name, but she didn’t answer. So I ran up to where she’d fallen. She was lying on
