The Change of Heart.
Chapter1
It has been only a few weeks ever
since Steven offered to take Aleu home with him. And the days were starting to
get warmer. Aleu and her clan decided to pay Steven and her father another
visit. They traveled by day and rested at night. It only took a couple of days
to reach them and they were almost there.
Aleu: C’mon guys let’s keep up! Let’s try to do the rest of
the traveling this afternoon so there is not a long way ahead in the morning.
They were
all pretty tired and hungry, including Aleu.
Ferris: Aleu can we please stop for the night; it’s getting
way too dark and we are all very tired. Am I right guys?!
They all said yes in very high and
tiring voices.
Aleu: (Giving a small chuckle.) Alright guys, you win. C’mon
there is a cave over there where we can stay for the night.
Every one
of them took a sigh of relief as they took their precious time to get over to
the cave. Farris quickly walked up to Aleu.
Farris: Hey, sorry about that. It is just that for all of
our safety I don’t think we should press on too hard.
Aleu: Yeah… well thanks for being honest. I’m just so
anxious to see my family; and Steven for that mater. I know you guys are tired
and I really should be the one to apologize.
Farris: Thanks. No apology necessary, at least you let us
stop. You have been very nice to us ever since you have been our leader. If
Niju were leader, oh, he wouldn’t even let us stop to take a breath. So, thanks.
Aleu: (With a slight giggle) you’re welcome Farris. I wonder
what Niju is doing right now.

It has been about a year since Aleu joined her
clan, and Nava was still looking for Niju where he had run away. Niju was just
desperate to go into solitude so he wouldn’t have to deal with the
embarrassment of seeing him again.
The
mountains of the clan’s old territory stretched long ways. Forestcovered a small fraction of it. Nava kept track of Niju’s scent and followed
it, but not constantly. He stopped at a stream near by if he was ever thirsty.
He killed what he needed to for food. And he rested when he could. He was in no
rush to find him.
One day,
when he was searching near the shore again, Nava lifted his nose in the air and
managed to find a stronger scent.
Nava: (sniffing) Niju.
Nava faced
the other direction and sniffed. Niju was hiding behind a large rock in the
direction that Nava was first looking in, peeking at him, and hoping that he
would just give up. He didn’t want to hurt Nava, he just wanted to be left
alone.
As he saw
Nava sniffing in the other direction, he ran away towards the opposite
direction that Nava was in. Running quickly but quietly, he spotted a little
opening that happened to be a cave entrance. He quickly ran up to it and
squeezed himself inside.
Panting
heavily Niju peered out the opening to see if Nava was coming, and he was but
then turned away in the opposite direction. Niju was relieved as he watched him
run.
Niju turned
away with his eyes closed with a guilty sad look on his face. He slowly walked
to the nearest corner of the cave and plopped down on the cave floor. His eyes
looked weak, like he hadn’t slept in days.
Niju: (In a tiring voice) what am I going to do now? How am
I going to live like this…
What have I done…
Niju gave a
long and heavy sigh along with his tiring eyes and closed them. He wanted to go
to sleep more than anything in the world… Then, in the corner of his eye he
spotted a light, a bright one at that. Niju looked up with confusion and stood
up and slowly walked toward to where the light was coming from. He had to
squeeze through a little hallway and down a narrow hole.
Niju found
the light. He was amazed. His eyes widened, his mouth slightly dropped and his
ears came down as he stared at it in astonishment. He had no clue where the
light had come from. He had never seen anything like it in his whole life… and
yet, he felt a feeling of warmth and joyfulness inside of him. He felt safe and
happy, this feeling put a smile on his face. Then all of a sudden, it got
brighter as it spoke to him.
Spirit: (In a calm and soothing voice) Niju.
Niju: What! Who’s there?! Who are you?! Where are you?!
Niju turned
around quickly to see if whatever was speaking to him was behind him. He looked
all over in panic. He could hear the voice clearly. He knew it must have been a
female. The voice was calm and soft.
Voice: Niju.
Niju: Show yourself! Where are you?!
Voice: You are afraid, Niju. Don’t be.
Niju: I am not afraid!
Niju started
in confusion. Then he started to see something come out of the Light. He saw on
the ground white paws, walking toward him, and as they walked toward him, the
light got closer as well. Niju started to back up, but he didn’t let his guard
down. He started to growl and snarl as the figure walked toward him.
Then he saw
a figure, in the shape of a wolf. Niju lowered his guard down a little, and
began to look a little closer. The image began to clear. And within seconds, he
saw who it was.
It was
Aniu, standing in her snow white appearance. Niju looked in shock.
Niju: Aniu!
Niju
sounded like his breath had been taken away. He couldn’t believe it. Niju
lowered his guard one hundred percent.
Voice: I may not be the one you’re afraid of, but of a natural
part of life
Niju: A natural part of life?
Voice: You know of what you fear.
Niju: Then what do I fear. What am I so afraid of?
Aniu: You try to deny that everything in life will change.
Niju put
his head down in embarrassment. He knew his fear as much as he didn’t want to
admit it.
Aniu: Yes, you know that it is true.
Niju: How do you know this about me?
Aniu: I have been watching over you, Niju.
Niju
thought about it, he had no idea how she could have known about his fear. Well
he did have one Idea.
During the
years, Nava taught the clan of many different faiths, including Buddhism,
Judaism, and Christianity, although Nava believed in The Father Sun and Mother
Earth. He taught the clan the rules and gods of each faith. But one faith
always concerned Niju, Christianity.
He noticed
that the figure worshiped in this faith was one that had the simple name of
God, but in a trinity: God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit. He
also learned about Satan, Demons and Angels.
He didn’t
believe in any of the faiths that Nava had taught him, until now. Niju thought
she must have been an Angel. And as far as he knew, angels watch over, whether
if it’s a human or animal.
Aniu: I have taken my place in the kingdom of Heaven.
Niju
couldn’t believe his ears. Nothing else in his mind was concentrated on the
spirit that spoke before him.
Niju: How could this be…you…you are?
Aniu: Yes.
