Balto whined at his mother,Aniu,to tell him what was going on but she wouldn't speak to him, she just carried on running.No matter how much her legs and paws hurt she kept on running.She knew what she had to do.Aniu pressed her ears felt against her head as she weaved around the tree's at top speed.

 

 

 

Balto,who had been carried in his mothers mouth, closed his eyes.All he could hear was the terrifieing shreiks of the wolves from his pack,his mothers pounding paws...and gunshots.Aniu ran and ran for what seemed to be miles, until suddenly Balto couldn't hear her footsteps any more.He opened his eyes to see a large beach where an enourmous boat was and just beyond it was a small town.Aniu made her way up the boat and placed Balto on a blanket inside.She licked his face then spoke in her warm voice,"I must go now little one,you stay put here and get some rest.You know you are part dog so you should be fine here".Aniu turned away to leave,but looked back when she heared Balto crying."Mama?"he asked,voice trembling."Stay here Balto.We'll cross paths once again someday"Aniu said,smiled once,and with that she left.Balto yawned and fell into a deep sleep.

 

 

 

The next day,Balto was awoken to the sound of someting outside."Whos there?"He whimpered.The sound continiued.He stood up,and crept to the enterance to have a peek outside.He saw something big and white."Mama!"He ran to the white thing but stopped in his tracks as the 'thing' turned around.It was some kind of bird but Balto had never encountered a bird like this before."Vat are you looking at puppy?"Said the bird.It had a thick russian accent.Balto looked around desperately."Wheres my mama?Have you seen her?Shes a wolf and-"

 

 

 

"Look boychick.If your part wolf your going to have a hard time around here.The townsfolk don't take too kindly to wolves.As for your mother...Well just stay at this boat until she collects you.Oh and my names Boris.Yours?"He asked.

 

 

 

"Umm i'm Balto.And im half husky.So will you look after me till my mama comes?"Balto asked, hope filling his heart.

 

 

 

"Eh, sure boychick.Just remember what i told you about the townsfolk.Even if you are part husky,you still have wolf in you.And like i said,they don't take kindly to wolves".

 

 

 

Balto was full of glee."Hmm can i atleast go and explore  Boris?"

 

 

 

"Okay Boychick.Just be careful!"Boris called out as Balto zoomed towards the town.

 

 

When he arrived he couldn't belive how many dogs were there.There was a particular friendly looking female red husky that caught Baltos eye.She seemed to be about the same age as him.But there was another puppy talking to her.This one was a large black and white male with peircing blue eyes.

Balto snuck up and hid behind a nearby fence to see if he could hear their conversation.

"Oh steele!Leave me alone!I don't want to play!"Growled the little female.

"But Jenna.Please,your my only friend"Said the black one grinning innocently.Innocence didn't fool Jenna.

"Pfft,yeah right.If you wanna hang out with someone, go to Nikki,kaltag and star!Just not me!"Jenna called out walking away.Steele huffed and walked in the other direction."Pampered old gloryhound"Jenna muttered to herself.

Jenna continued stalking off but when she came to a large fence something moved nearby,that caught her eye.

"Ummm.....Hello?Who's there?"She called to where the thing had come from.

Balto tilted his head and peeked out from behind the fence that he had been hiding behind."Hello."He replied timidly.

Jenna's eyes widened."A wolf!"She choked,stepping back.

Balto shook his head fiercly."No,no!I'm only part wolf,I'm half husky!I won't hurt you."He said,coming out more.

Jenna raised a brow."Y-you promise?"She said,the fear leaving her voice.Balto nodded."I promise.Jenna breathed a sigh of relief before looking back to Balto and tilted her head,questions flooding her mind.

"So,why are you here?Are you alone?And why did you come into town?Where do you stay?"

Jenna blabbed on asking questions,while Balto answered truthfully,as the two made their way down to the beach.

"That's where I'm staying now.A goose named Boris is looking after me till my mama comes back."Balto said,pointing towards the boat.

"Wow!"Jenna exclaimed."So,where is you're mama exactly?"

Balto sighed and looked at the ground for a second,hesitating."I...don't...know."He finally said.

"Oh.I'm sorry.I've been asking too many questions haven't I?"Jenna said,pity stabbing at her stomach.

Balto shook his head."It's fine,I suppose.Boris is friendly and I kinda like it here."

Jenna smiled."And now you have your first friend too!"

Balto smiled back at her."We're friends?"He asked.

Jenna nodded."Of course!"She laughed.

Balto wagged his tail before hitting her playfully on the shoulder with his paw."Tag,you're it!"He yipped and ran off.

Jenna grinned."I'm gonna catch you!"She growled playfully and zoomed after him.

The two pups played for hours more until they wore themselves out.Balto sat down,panting heavily.Jenna plopped down beside him."Whoo!That was soooo fun!"She giggled.

Balto nodded in agreement,catching his breath.Suddenly another thing sprang to his mind that he forgot to ask."Hey Jenna?"

Jenna looked up to him."Yeah,what is it?"

Balto hesitated."Well...who was that black husky you were talking to earlier?"

Jenna's face turned bitter."Augh,that was Steele.He's a total brat,and always wants to play with me,he never leaves me alone."She muttered."I don't like him.And I wouldn't let him spot you,else he would probably rip you're fur off.And he always has Nikki,Kaltag and Star to help him.Those three are his friends and they follow him nearly everywhere.I don't mind them,they aren't as bad a Steele....though Star can be really dumb at times."She laughed a bit.

"Wow.So,they're all...purebreeds?"He asked,his tone saddening. 

Jenna nodded."Yeah.Actually,I've never seen a wolfdog like you before.And you're WAAAY more fun than Nikki,Kaltag,Star and Steele."She grinned.

Balto smiled again."Thanks Jenna."

Jenna nodded then looked at the sky."It's going to get dark soon.When the sky starts to go red and orange,thats when I have to go back to my girl,Rosie."She smiled lightly.

Balto twitched his ears."Okay then....Will I see you again tomorrow?"

Jenna nodded."When Rosie lets me out,I can come down here if you want."

Balto nodded."Okay,see you tomorrow!"He said and got to his paws,then running back to the boat while Jenna ran back to town,both of them smiling.
