A Hunter's Call
Paws stand firmly on dried leaves
Boots steady themselves for an impact
Unreadable orange eyes stare back into confused blue
The amber stare through him
Refusing to stare into the barrel
Chests barely rise and fall
Yet they breathe the same surrounding air
Those flaming eyes are intimidating
A finger squeezes a trigger tighter
Still, the wolf does not move
He waits for death
A distant howl calls of hungry pups
The wolf barely flinches
Blue eyes of consideration gaze into the eyes of a wolf
The hunter lowers the barrel, not taking his eyes off
A wolf drops his gaze and walks away
Still giving the hunter the oppurtunity
With a smile across his lips
The hunter walks away

on a practical level, but killing unless you absolutely have
to seems inhuman to me. Anyway, nice poem. Free-verse,
right?
